and all the other Long Riders out there. Every time I hear this song, I immediately think of lowell. But I also think it would be an appropriate theme song for a lot of the members here. The Long Way Home (Tom Waits) Well, I stumbgled in the darkness I'm lost and alone Thiugh I said I'd go before us And show the way back home Ther's a light up ahead I can't hold onto her arm Forgive me pretty baby but I always take the long way home Money's just somethihng you throw Off the back of a train Got a handful of lightening And a hat full of rain And I know that I said I'd never do it again And I love you pretty baby but I always take the long way home I put food on the table And a roof overhead But I'd trade it all tomorrow For the highway instead Watch your back if I should tell you Loves the only thing I've ever known One thing for sure pretty baby I always take the long way home. You know I love you Babbby More than the whole wide world You are my woman I know you are my pearl Let's go out past the party lights We can finally be alone Come with me and we can take the long way home Come with me, together we can take the long way home Come with me, together we can take the long way home.

starter not working after puttin on crank cover!
Black Owl replied to a topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
If the starter will spin with the cover off, it sounds like you may have the starter dragging on the cover when you torque it down. Try backing out the bolts one turn at a time to see if you can get the starter to turn. If it turns with the side cover loose, that will tell you what the problem is. Then you can either mill down the case, or try a thicker gasket. -
Don't know a whole lot about tires, but side wall cracks in tires are usually the result of one, or a combination of, the following: 1. Rubber tires exposed to low temperatures for an extended period of time will harden and become brittle and are more susceptible to cracking. 2. Cracks on the sidewalls which are isolated, deep and concentrated around the lettering are indicative of an aged tire. 3. Fine surface cracks are more usually the result of ozone attack and may indicate that the tire has been in storage or left standing for a long period. Other local irregulatities are usually an indication of flexing stress. But this is just my opinion and may not be worth the time to read.

Problem: Clutch won't release
Black Owl replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Try pushing the lever rather than pulling it. If the clutch releases when you push on the level, the clutch is installed upside down....... http://www.getsmile.com/emoticons/emotions-smileys-free/music22.gif -
Would definately be interested in trying this product......... If you can wait until our rain becomes liquid. Right now it is still falling in solid form........ http://www.getsmile.com/emoticons/seasons-smileys-54682/weather37.gif

Installing new plug wires - help
Black Owl replied to BJB's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, the technical term is "wire loom". The purpose of placing wiring in a loom is two fold. It protects the wiring from external damage and shields it from heat. It will also prevent unintended grounding. So, "Is it necessary?" Probably not. "Does it help?" Definately......... But then, this is just my opinion.............- 3 replies

Our thoughts are with Mark's family in this time of sorrow. Wish I had had the opportunity to speak with him one last time.

Alan, The welding class goes through May 16. So I still have a few weeks. If you thing you can find those lifters, that would be great.

and a dollar short............. Someone was asking about road service programs a while back. I use Motorcycle Towing Service (MTS). The rate is very reasonable. The benefits are exceptional. And they offer the cold climate package for folks living in the frozen wastelands of the country. Coverage includes, the US, Canada, Hawaii and Pôrto Rico. They also have arranges discount rates with several motel chains and auto rental agencies. As I say, at least for me, the services and benefits offered for the price are excellent. You can check them out at www.mts-towing.com

Lowell, Have you tried Yamaha Carb cleaner. It is an excellent cleaner mixed with gasoline. A bit pricey, but it will definately clean all the accumulated crub from the carbs.
