Just a little FYI here. This information came up in a truck fire that we are working on. Since a few folks here shop at Harbor Freight occassionly, Thought I would pass it on for those who are/were not aware of this recall. September 5, 2007 California auto parts seller Harbor Freight Tools will recall as many as 295,000 sets of automobile fuses manufactured in China because they could malfunction and cause electrical fires. Harbor Freight reported plans for the recall of Chinese made fuses to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration August 10. Harbor Freight told the federal safety agency that it is aware of property damage caused by the fuses but does not know of any injuries. The decision to recall the fuses is a result of four customer complaints "in a very short period of time" according to the company as well as concerns raised with Harbor Freight by General Motors Corp. Last month, GM sent an internal bulletin to dealersdiscouraging them from using the Harbor Freight fuses and reminding dealers that the fuses are not GM parts. NHTSA has also received two complaints from consumers about the Harbor Freight fuses. Harbor Freight Tools had sought to limit public disclosure of the fuse recall by marking its four page letter to NHTSA as a confidential communication. The auto parts company asked the safety regulators to limit disclosure of the defect report from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act. If successful, this tactic would have prevented consumers from knowing they had potentially hazardous fuses in their cars The fuses are supposed to be 5-30 amps but may have been made with the wrong amperages and that can lead to damage to a vehicle's electrical system. Harbor Freight has now stopped selling the fuses. Between August 2005 and August 2007, Harbor Freight sold 295,000 fuse sets containing 120 fuses which means as many as 35 million fuses could be involved. The fuse sets sold for between $3 and $10. The company plans to notify anyone who purchased the fuses from the company's Web site, as well as mail-order customers, and will post recall notices in retail . It will give customers a $5 gift certificate for returning the items, in addition to a refund.

Way to go gary. But me thinks the difference in the MPG had nothing to do with the old gas. You have been dropping so much weight after your surgery, that you just weighed less on the return run. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/lol6.gif

WOW... over 2100 hits and 74 postings. If I had thought the comment was going to generate that much heat, I would have flagged it and been following it along. Funny thing here is that not one of the responses Pro/Con came from the member who's thread was dumped... I don't know. Maybe they they felt it was no big deal... Or maybe, like me, they never even went back to it. Or, perish the thought, they accepted the explanation of why it was dumped and moved on. A lot of times, a thread will get pulled, not because of the original content, but because of a follow up posting. Do we owe every one who made a posting in the thread an explaination as to why the thread was pulled? I think not. In this instance, the thread in question was really pushing the edge. While it hadn't yet crossed the line, I made a decision to pull it, and in doing so, pulling the edge back a bit. I also left that morning on a road trip. And, unlike Don who has set it up to receive/review each and every posting, I elected to only be notified of new threads. So, in three days, this thread was really buried. And, if Squidly had not revived it, I would never have seen how much traffic it generated. I really didn't think it called for any responses.

This change does not go into effect until 2012, but you may want to stick it in your something to remember file. Effective 2012, the IRS will be receiving payment information from charge card companies ANDother financial entities such as PayPal. While the intent is to track folks that may be running off the book enterprises, they will also be able to see who is living beyond their reported income level. This can come back and bit a few of us in the butt. Like donations made to Don via PayPal for maintaining the site would have to be claimed as income. Folks who are receiving payments for the purchase of raffle tickets, registration fees, etc... will have to claim that as income. So, just a word to the wise....

Thought I would post this information here for any of our member Vets who are planning on drawing their Social Security. Anyone who has served on active duty prior to January 2002 is qualified for a higher SS payment because of their military service at any time during the period of 1957 through 2001. You can qualify for up to $1,200.00 per year of earning creidits applied at time of application. This can make a substantial difference in your month social security payment upon retirement. You must bring your DD-214 to the SS office. and you must ask for this benefit to receive it. This is not just for military retirees, but for anyone having active duty service during the eligability period. But You must ask for it. For additional information, go to www.ssa.gov/retire2/military.htm

Folks, Recently there have been several posts which have been pushing the envelope. Please be careful with your posts.... We have all been around enough that there is probably very little that would faze most of us. However, we have a realy simple guideline for the site ...If you wouldn't want your wife/child reading it.... don't post it. Thanks for your understanding......

Julian, Whichever way you go to get the training, you are definately one step ahead already by realizing that you need to learn to ride before you buy a scoot. Had the unfortunate task of examining a brand new wrecked scoot today. The scoot only had 6/10ths of a mile on it. The kid circled the dealer parking lot once and as he was headed out the driveway he dumped it. Of course it was not his fault. He is claiming that the steering failed. And as others have said, make sure your first scoot is one you can handle. A 500-750 is big enough to run with the big (and girls). Oh, by the way, welcome to the Venture Rider site. Hang around, ask some questions, and don't believe one word those guys up in Canada tell you.

OK folks, just a reminder. We already have a procedure set up for these types of donations. The donations can be made to the OPE (Out of Pocket) Expense fund. PayPal donations can be sent to CFAS@Juno.com Just make sure you tag the payment as being for the ECK fund. Donations can also be made by check. Make the check payable to Russell Hicks and send it to CFAS, P.O. Box 240414, Apple Valley, MN 55124. As with the PayPal donations, tag the check as being for the ECK fund.

Bit confused here. It seems that one of the concers was that Progressive would not cover the living expenses (motel, food, etc). Is this even covered in the policy? If not, how can anyone expect to get reimbursed for something not covered by the policy? Just curious.

http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/lol6.gif OK. I'll stop. The other end goes into the coil pack. It's been a few years since I replaced mine, but if I remember correctly you can access the coil packs through the head light port. There is a screw cap which you remove, insert the new wire and screw it down tight. Hope that helps.
