I was going to get the dealer to do the first oil change and he told me it would be 250 to 300 dollars, and I would have to leave it for a week. I went home and started looking at what i would need to do all my service. now I've got my own jack, do all my own service, pick what fluids I want to put in, and two weeks ago i yanked my wheels off and mounted my own tires. I hate to admit it but I like doing my own service (with a little help from this forum) sssshhhhhhhhhh---- don't tell the wife.

New Avons, have questions.
aspen60 replied to Busta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Busta, I just put new Avons on my RSV that i bought from Competition Accessories in Ohio. The date on the tires was oct of 08. I even went to the trouble of mounting them myself. When I got done I put Dynabeads in front and back to balance, now the bike handles and rides better than the day I rode it home this spring from the dealer. Couldn't be happier. -
After 8500 miles on the stock Bridgstones I replaced front and back with Avon Venoms, couldn't be happier. Replaced the back tire two weeks ago and had a slight vibration when I pulled the clutch in and let the throttle go to idle at 50 mph. So this week I installed the new Avon front,(after reading Goose say he mounted the tire himself,I tried it too.) put Dynabeads in both tires, now it is smoother and handles better than brand new! My vote goes for the Venoms.

Auestion for the Truck Drivers Out There (about passing)
aspen60 replied to LilBeaver's topic in Watering Hole
Just my two cents, ALWAYS pass on the left side. Nothing made me madder than someone passing on the right or even worse the shoulder. And when you pull out to pass -----get it over with. Then get back in the right lane after you get two seconds ahead. -
New to me '06 venture. Oil? Filter?
aspen60 replied to Whitetales's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I use a Purolator pure one 14610 (hope that is the right #)It is a little longer than the stock filter but it fits perfect and the reports all say it's one of the best filters out there. Currently using Shell Rotella T 15-40 oil will try Mobil 1 next change to see if the chirp goes away a little. -
So how well do cowboy boots work with 2nd Gen Controls?
aspen60 replied to GG54172's topic in Riding Gear
I wear a pair from leather-up also, and I couldn't live without a heel shifter. When you want to shift fast, I find I can do it faster and smoother with my heel. http://www.leatherup.com/p/Mens-Motorcycle-Boots/Mens-Western-Style-Heavy-Top-Grain-Leather-Boots/42191.html -
Yea thats cool! I had a 77 750 super sport with a vetter faring. I'm having flashbacks!:happy-emoticon:

Some of you probably have seen this, but it was new to me. Check out the V-Max trike, seems like an odd combination but still looks pretty cool:cool10: http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/11/20/tilting-v-max-trike-by-tilting-motor-works/

My 2009 RSV has been repaired and is back safe and sound in the garage
aspen60 replied to DonWood's topic in Watering Hole
Don, glad to hear you got your scoot back, can't imagine being without mine. I didn't like how bright my brake light was either and pulled the bulb and replaced it with one of these. It just plugs into the brake bulb socket. At least twice as bright now. Just a two minute install. http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm -
Link worked good for me, awesome job.

Cruise Control Not Staying Engaged
aspen60 replied to SaltyDawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My 09 rsv already has the clutch lever "squeeking". Might be a good idea to get a little grease in there huhhhh. -
Hey Freebird, just wondering if I paid in the right spot:confused24: Just watching for that great "Supporting Member" tag by my name, and havn't seen it yet.(not wanting to bug)

Always ride, as long as its above 40 and not raining when I leave. Didn't see any more bikes than normal however. I do love that ride home!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And where would one get a centerstand if one was so inclined to not want to bend over or use a mirroror or get upset about the oil sight glass anymore? (thanks for the responses)
-
Okay maybe it's just me being stupid, but how am I suppossed to check the engine oil when I'm alone? Does everyone just balance their bike with one hand and bend over, almost standing on their head to see that little sight glass that doesn't show any oil until the bike is standing straight up and down! Just my personal rant:headache: Surely there is a better way to check my oil.

Important: check this out if you have a Yamaha locking gas cap...
aspen60 replied to Blackjack's topic in Watering Hole
Just looked at my two week old RSV, sure enough, I could tighten both screws a quarter turn. Must come from the factory that way. Just a newbie to this site but already see how helpful it is. Thanks!- 37 replies
