  1. Thanks again folks. Checked out Traders suggestion and that looks good, thanks. Doesn't look like the temps are any better north of me this time of year then south so we may reconsider heading south instead!
  2. All great ideas. Exactly what I needed to jump start the planning. I like the idea of heading into Canada on this trip but taking in all new England states too. Ferry over ? Possibly....good suggestion there. Thx again..... Still time for more suggestions!
  3. Hi there. A buddy and I are leaving Long Island for a week ride. Original plan was to head south, Dragon, Skyline, Blue Ridge, etc but felt the south in August would be way too hot. So now we are thinking North. Been over most of upstate NY, Mt Greystone, MA, Mt Washington NH, Nova Scotia. I'm struggling for a good set of destinations and routes anywhere in Maine promarily nut also northern new Hampshire, vermont, eastern Canada. Kinda thinking about a loop up the east coast, up the US/ Canada border, coming back down NY to long island. I was also thinking of heading west to Michigan, central Canada, back thru ny. Anyway, any ideas would be appreciated Andrew
  4. At the time I had to replace mine, I went with The Works shock. It was over $600. I wanted to go Hagon but they didn't have the right spring for bigger riders. The Works shock is performing fine, plenty of positive posts about the Hagon as well. There are a couple of other names out there but some, not many good reviews. Hagon and Works seems to be most popular. Here's a couple of posts about my experience. Good luck. http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=61429 http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63308
  5. I also had my light fuse blowing but it wasn't consistent. I found that the passing lamp wire bundle was getting pinched in the steering head stops. Might be worth looking at?
  6. Put me in for one 3.5" and one 5.75" please Andrew
  7. Welcome from Long island! RSV is great bike and this is a great family !
  8. [ame=http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xhVj6wrDz0E]http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xhVj6wrDz0E[/ame] Bubs repack......
  9. I had white walls on my 1100 beige/burgandy vstar and on my black 650 , they looked great on both but as noted here, it's personal taste. Only pic I could find of one of them: However i wanted to chime in and state that's maintenance on white walls is a must if you want them to remain white and the back wheel of our rsv's is not so easy to get to. Even on a jack, your on your back with just a small section of the wheel easily accessesed at a time. I didn't put them on my midnight rsv for that reason.
  10. Someone here did say to get 05 or earlier To get a set without the cat converter.
  11. Well I spoke to the guy I bought the hairy mufflers from. He advised the mufflers were in a storage unit for years with lots of his ex wife's stuff. We both guess a mouse found a wig and made a nest. I pulled the rest out and all is well. I don't see a honeycomb thing in either muffler. Thx for all the fun replies!
  12. no mice ... It looks like hair! Creeeeepppy I was going to pull it out and started to but then the brown hair led to white material and I was concerned I was pulling out the packing. Ive repacked my old Bub's and that mateiral looks nothing liek this though! Ill dive into this again today. Thanks all and thanks for the intrest in my old Bub's. Got a lot of replies..
  13. Thanks guys. This stuff is in the left side muffler when looking at the bike from the back. I got the mufflers on, out for a ride and this stuff is now hanging out of the muffler ! I got the right bolts, thx. The mufflers have a split flange so getting them all the way on was a breeze and htey sound great. Made my own brackets from drawings found here! Thanks for the help. Ill be selling a pair of Bubs in good condition if any intrest.... https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/XH8p6uUm7r55aTo-oNyAkdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/OY6dE8a-k17_xOW1bTFDx9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/UlGBfXt5Mze3I5Pzg9RvCNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/3UcypY4kHSDbI4J2propZdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/07QkiLg4qE3YVpHg6aewPNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink
  14. I couldn't imagine a metric bolt on a Harley part but I did try a few metrics anyway with no luck.
  15. Thanks. I guess I'll just push it back in and hope for the best. Any idea what the thread size is for the two mounting tabs on the muffler? I just came back from the hardware joint, the closest that worked was 5/16 course thread but even that didn't thread all the way.
  16. Right! I'm wondering if the thing is no good now. I don't see that material in the other muffler so I though the same, is it part of the cat. If I keep pulling it'll come out but of course I stopped. I had first thought the guy had hidden his hair piece in there!
  17. . All good stuff for my future in standup but has anyone with these mufflers seen this?
  18. I got my Road King slips ons today. They are from an 09 bike and were never used. I looked into the input on one of them and it looked like a wig was stuffed in there. This is what I pulled out. It appears to be packing? The stuff you see is brownish, the rest inside the muffler is white. Anyone else see this? Now that I pulled it out a bit did I screw it up?
  19. The mindset thing is interesting. Feel like I get no respect on the RSV but on a Harley......but then again it's not worth all that $$ for that and I really don't care Ya I have to agree, I like my RSV better too but things like a better stereo, integrated cd player in the dash, fuel injection, 6 speed gearbox, better factory seat, better and more gauges would be nice upgrades like the ultra had . As silly as it sounds, I like the side hinged trunk hood too! Although it was a pig. Not the power my RSVP has. and the shaking at a stop...... And the wierd radio and turn signal hand controls.... Eh The dealer I picked up at was great, treated me like a friend. My yammie dealer doesn't care if I walk in the door or not. Now it may be Arizona vs new york thing too. However I'm still thinking about a Harley! Yuma? I went to http://www.eaglerider.com. Good place to start or find a dealer in Yuma that rents direct.
  20. I travel a lot for business and am trying to fit a day in before or after business for a ride where possible and theres no shortage of my business pals willing to take a customer out for a "business event"! I wish someone would visit me in Long Island so I could return the favor ! Anyway, picked up a Harley Ultra Glide the past Monday. This my 2nd time on a Harley. There's a lot I like about it, plenty I don't but I have to say Harley instils a mind set I don't get on my venture and I was digging it but not enough to switch. Rode out to Canyon Lake to a place called Tortilla Flats, an hour or so east of Phoenix. Anyone local over there knows what a beautiful crazy ride that one road to Tortilla Flats is. Did a lot of riding around Superstition Mountain and a few more lake areas. Fantastic region.....and the weather this time of year is perfect. Have another ride planned for the fall, going north of Phoenix this time, Sedona, Red Rocks, etc. I'm trying to learn my new Nikon DLSR, not succeeding but heres a few pics from the trip https://picasaweb.google.com/ablumny/ArizonaRideFeb2012?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCMLEi4vCgv7yDQ&feat=directlink
  21. Just graduated from a point and shoot digital to a Nikon D5100 DLSR and a nice 18-105 zoom. Even on automatic it's fantastic. Gotta take some classes on how to use it!
  22. I've got to bookmark this post for inspiration. At 46, with 1 in college, 2 more going soon, someday when I'm in my 80's I can retire
  23. Our 15 yo Kenmore canister crapped recently and I replaced it with a Dyson canister, no goofy ball thing on these. So far she loves it. It's light weight, the suction is amazing and it seems to pick up everything well. The wand and all connection are plastic, could be a long term issue but everything clicks together easily. For some reason the wand seems to attract dust on the outside towards the head. Theres a few other things I don't like about it like the no bag thing which makes a nice mess when you empty it but otherwise it seems to be ok. With a 5 year end to end warranty and the performance so far we think we'll keep it but why should I be concerned about Dyson?
  24. After 23 years together, the gift giving seems to have gotten more practical then romantic or holiday oriented. I got an 18volt Rigid drill kit and I got her a Dyson vacuum! Btw: the Rigid drill came with two lithium ion batteries, quick charger, carry bag and is super light weight....best of all everything, batteries included come with a lifetime guarantee from home depot....real cool. ......and the Dyson works great Happy Holidays all.....
  25. Since I'm thinking of a CanAm Spyder, my RSV wants a new home soon
