  1. me too! (i think) http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SE6Vl3egApI/AAAAAAAAAYA/dNjbpmVtgEY/s128/Nova%20Scotia%20June%2008%20249.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SE6V5q2HshI/AAAAAAAAAbI/9n7TM5mU_-Y/s128/Nova%20Scotia%20June%2008%20327.jpg thx for sharing. I did nearly that same run last year. It was great.
  2. Today I took a 415 mile solo run from my home (Long Island) to Mt Greylock (highest peak in Ma). This was my first "off Island" run since picking up the Venture a few months ago. I dont get too many of these opps so im all sorts of jacked up to report on it! Amazing, just amazing. I took plenty of long runs over many years on my 1100 Vstar but this run was so much better. The Venture made the difference. It was smooth, quiet and powerful every time I tested it. Power, Power and more Power. I wouldn't have imagined tossing a monster like this around on the twisties but it works!; not like my lighter Vstar but it still gives a thrill. Never felt like I was going to lose it and the brakes stop it and my carcass with ease. I could ride in that stock seat forever (first time I didnt need to drop half a grand on a Corbin) and with the Kuryakyn pegs out there I had many riding positions to test. Again, just amazing. I only wish I had more opportunity to get it on the open roads. (after 20 years of riding on Long Island, Ive seen it all!) My aftermarket electronics worked flawlessly. Satellite radio kept me entertained. I downloaded a Garmin map file from Sundaymornignrides.com, made a few mods and it worked perfectly! (Garmin 2720, they are cheap and work great!) Here's a couple of pics from the run. More on the link below. Ive gotten plently of tips here and thank everyone. Great site. Im on here multiple times per day. Long Island members need to get together some day! http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SnT6Z1LmziI/AAAAAAAAC1c/tH30-y1NhLU/s800/P8010625.JPG http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SnT6M0g1mcI/AAAAAAAACzw/B1OWgDcTeeE/s800/P8010598.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SnT6ue99zyI/AAAAAAAAC4k/3Jr2erseitM/s800/P8010672.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SnT6O8SH4GI/AAAAAAAAC0A/UDTaYil4_b0/s800/P8010602.JPG http://picasaweb.google.com/ablumny/LongIslandMtGreylockRun#
  3. yep, near impossible to see any breaks without a magnifier. Im lucky to have an electronics engineer for a friend and he;s got the right soldering iron to quickly reflow each pad without lifting the LED off the board. I didn't beleive him when he suggested the fix (pesky know it all type ) but it worked. If not, awsmrsv posted a good link for a replacement above. Good luck.
  4. I had the same problem. If your is like mine, a stip of red LED's behind a clear diffuser, take it apart down to the board and reflow the solder on all of the LEDs that were out. I did and they all work now.

  11. Thanks POnch. Been away for a while. Looks like my gauges are working as expected.
  12. Same problem. THe tips on my Bubs are peeling. I was going to sand then clean and paint them with flat black high heat paint.
  13. I have Bub Slip on's on my 03 Venture. They do sound great, even better when your cruising and get on it! This is a video I took shortly after getting it home. You can hear the pipes pretty well I think.. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkvDf9ZdYSQ]YouTube - 2003 Yamaha Royal Star Midnight Venture[/ame]
  14. behind the left side cover below the seat (if you are sitting on it) i believe. One allen head bolt and it pulls off straight towards you.
  15. great!
  16. Thanks again to the forum members who posted instructions and tips and those that helped me along the way. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SkYU-gCxNMI/AAAAAAAACaw/Q7S6ecdwZIE/s512/P6270656.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SkYU98iFcSI/AAAAAAAACao/_MCkLpBMiN8/s512/P6270654.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SkYU-Ee8MAI/AAAAAAAACas/mAL3qarUaCU/s512/P6270655.JPG http://picasaweb.google.com/ablumny/VentureStuff#
  17. I have the same rig except Satellite radio instead of IPOD. The 2720 is mono output. Maybe see if you can first get a mono to stereo adapter for the GPS out. When I did that, the sat radio volume dropped significantly in both speakers even with the 2720 on and not talking. Then I went to two Ground Loop Isolators which performed the function of isolating the signals from each other. That worked fine but still the overall radio volume was too low when the gps was on plus I needed a ton of adapters to make it all work. I got fed up, clipped off all the ends and hard wired everything into my own passive mixer which works great at complete signal isolation and independant volume control. Both devices can be on at the same time and when the GPS speaks, the radio is not affected. Only thing to do is adjust the mixer to a comfortable volume ratio between the two. I know there are devices out there that will cut the radio/ipod volume when the gps speaks but they are pricey. There are also off the shelf passive mixers available. My post on the subject is here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35536 Pictures of the progressions I took are at http://picasaweb.google.com/ablumny/VentureStuff# (mixed in with other pics) I hope this helps, not makes it worse! Let me know if I can help....
  18. Thx. Took the plug to a different auto parts store who had a better fitting o-ring but more importantly a fatter, better fitting o-ring. Leak is gone! whew So Im proud of myself for gettign past that one. I put the whole things back together, crack the engine to test the three gauges, no oil pressure! Turns out I clamped the oil line between the gauge bracket and the plastic housing. Had to cut out the line, had to get another ferrel, such a waste of time and energy. ANyway, all done now and everythign works. Are there stats on where oil pressure and water temp should be at idle and highway speeds? btw Ponch, I used your faceplate drawing . THANK YOU !
  19. Im knee deep in installing my gauges and I can not get the temp probe adapter to stop leakign at the head. Tried the compression gasket that came with the Non-fouler and tried a #10 o-ring gasket. ideas?
  20. Gauges are in, mounted in 1/4" black ABS and flush with the fairing bezel. Oil line run, through the existing clamps but just below the plastic side cover under the tank it runs through brake hose the whole way down to the fitting. Fires it up and it works. 25# at idle up to 60# when revving. Water temp probe, different story. First shot with compression washer (thought I'd try it) failed. Leaking. Off to get the O-Ring! Also, pulled 12VDC from inside the fairing for the volt meter, a switched line I use for my Satellite and GPS power. Should I have taken it from another source?
  21. Thx Guys. For peace of mind I'm going to get that little coiled up nylon tube through the brake hose! As for the washer on the water temp sensor, it's o-ring for me for now. I'll post my results. Thanks again to both of you for getting me started!
  22. I also helped a friend install a set of Kuryakyn's. He hated them. The signals were not visible during the day, they vibrated, and the mirrors surface was too small........he said.
  23. Actually, I was questioning the compression washer. Original post and followup posts say this works but Im suspicious. I will go with a rubber o-ring. Recommend a source? re: oil line protection: freaked out when I read someones melted open! Im also questioning the length of the M20 tapped oil drain plug. Think there is a max length to be concerned with? thx
