Ill add, that the Clearview folks are top notch in the customer service area. My first go around with them didnt work out and we worked out a resolution that was great. The short time I had their shield, it was very nice visually. (I just ordered the wrong height I suspect to solve a buffeting problem) Now that Im re-looking for a shield solution, Im leaning towards them again. Ive seen the F4 youtube video's, impressive, but I like the recurve at the top of the Clearview shield , I like that it's wider then the F4 and I like the proven customer service. Good luck

Windshield HEIGHT advice
ablumny replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes. As noted when I started this question, I had a Clearview shield, their shortest one. I noticed that same problem. At the recurve, it was distorted. The Clearview folks were great about the return, offered me all sorts of help but since I wasnt willing to buy a taller one at the time and look through it, I passed. They suggested I buy a windshield edging from Saeng. I ordered it but its had little effect. Again, Saeng was great about the return, offered up a few suggestions but none were viable. ANYWAY...... I think I'll try the Showchrome shield, buy it from J&P, they have a good return policy. Some here have given it a thumbs up for my type of prob but I suspect I'll need to go to a tall shield if I want to solve this one.... thxx all -
Windshield HEIGHT advice
ablumny replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I thought one of the key features of the Clearview shields was the "rebend" of the shield at the top to direct air up and around the rider better. They call it the "upper recurve". Im imaging cutting off the top affects that ? -
Windshield HEIGHT advice

Im back! A lot happaned in my world since Dec. Thank you for all the great feedback! As the riding season re-approaches I'm back to this problem. Im thinking the ShowChrome shield makes sense but one that I'll just have to look through. Im looking into an F4 shield or going back to a ClearView shield as well...now that I have given in to the idea of looking through rather then over.... thx again. -
A friend and I did it from Long Island in June 08 in 9 days. I had an 1100 Vstar back then but my Corbin seat was fantastic (plug for Corbin!). First day was 13 hours from Long Island to the border in Maine. All of Nova Scotia was amazing, the bay of fundy was amazing, Peggy Cove beautiful and the Cabot Trail lived up to its hype. Towards the north end we split off a mostly well packed dirt road and found ourselves at Meat Cove, to me one of the most beautiful places out there. There are visitor centers everywhere and the people were great there.... they made reservations for us, knew places for good rising and sight seeing....the whole experience was great, even the $250, 6 hour high speed ferry ride back !; Im planning to return. HEre;s my pictures from that trip http://picasaweb.google.com/ablumny/NovaScotiaJune2008# Good luck, it's be awesome Im sure. Andrew

What kind of windshield is on the "Jack Daniels" bike and whats going around the edge? -
On the coal burning forum I frequent, a similar topic was started. I was pretty impressed with myself and my Toro blower I had just bought: http://cdn-8.psndealer.com/e2/dealersite/images/NewVehicles/2002824xl.jpg But they wouldn't let that that slip by without showing off and a "mine is bigger then yours" topic spiraled outta control with pages of pics and videos. This is what you do when it winter and you're a biker in snow country I suppose...... http://nepacrossroads.com/download/file.php?id=17075&t=1 http://nepacrossroads.com/download/file.php?id=17463&t=1 http://www.auctionsinternational.com/sites/auctionsinternational/images/0000053633_1.JPG http://av8r.org/posi.jpg http://nepacrossroads.com/download/file.php?id=17856&mode=view http://nepacrossroads.com/download/file.php?id=7743&mode=view and then there's these monsters: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAKHVQ2aF9E]YouTube- Detroit Diesel snowblower, part II[/ame] [nomedia=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frBh5vO_2g0]YouTube- Rotary Snow Plow Union Pacific 900082 Blizzard 2006 Action[/nomedia]

I had a very similar experience ! Open mind when I rented an Electra Glide. I liked it.....but not enough to trade in my 2nd gen Venture! [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42000]First ride in CA /First ride on a Harley - VentureRider.Org[/ame]

I bought the shortest shield. It didnt do what I expected as far as buffeting and it had some wierd visual problems. I spoke to John, great guy who offered to take it back, have the owner look at it, advise a plan to improve or offer a credit. We couldn't come to an agreement and they issues a full refund. Although it didnt work out for me, Id say thier service was top notch.

Windshield HEIGHT advice
ablumny replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks. I did put a set of the knee wind blockers on and they made a big difference on my legs but the buffeting is definitely coming over the top. My head is bouncing around pretty badly -
Ive read the current threads on the subject but i am lost. I am 5' 10.5" tall. I cut my factory shield down to 17" above the bottom of the gas cap area. At that height i was looking above the shield which is what i want. However the buffeting was terrible. So I contacted ClearView and they were great about pre-sales support. I ordered the shortest version which is 19" above the same point. We thought that since their shield leans back Id still see over it. However it didnt work out that way. The bigger problem was the buffeting wasn't reduced enough for me. The recurve helped but not enough. Let me say, the ClearView folks are top notch. Although we couldn't get to a solution, they took great care of me. SO, here I am asking for advice. I want to look over the shield and I want as little buffeting as possible. If this sounds familiar and you've found a solution PLEASE share! and thx......

Well, I enjoy a fresh salad of basil, avacado, tomato wedges and spring greens to get started. Then an appetizer of pan seared scallops in a white wine reduction or if the mood is right a couple of lump crab cakes delicatly layed with Mango and green papya sauces. For the main event, a pan fried striped bass in a red wine reduction, surrounded by fingerling potatoes and wild leeks. YA RIGHT! Standard Oven Turkey and a smaller deep fried bird, fit in the sweet potatoes, custom stuffing and all the normal accessories while working hard toward the grand finale of homemade pies, ice cream and (for some bizzaro reason) cannolis'! Happy Thanksgiving!

DEFENSE I ride like everyone around me is going to cut me off, move into my lane, run a red light or a stop sign.....everyone is out to get me and/or I am invisible. I'm constantly scanning ahead as far as I can see. Unfortunately I presume the person in the giant SUV is a jerk and is going to cross the double white line to get to her kids soccer game faster (sorry SUV folks and mom's). I assume the person in the expensive import is a bigger jerk (again, sorry) and wont see me when he/she runs into my lane while illegally yakking on their cell.....I assume this things because more often then not they are true, especially on Long Island. Anyway (off on a tangent there ) I'm covering the brakes when Im in traffic or about to cross a major intersection. When I cross intersections or am riding on a road with lots of opportunity for cars to pull out of parking lots or make lefts in front of me, I ride next to a car or tail the car in front of me closely ....... plus all the lights, the reflective piping on the jacket and my AIR HORN! I am in defense mode 100% of the time. .....yet I still LOVE riding

I dont get it! Today my Clearview 19" showed up. Popped it on and Im looking through the the top 2" of the shield. Hit the road and the buffeting I was hoping to clear is only slightly better. Any advice?

I cut the stock tall one down to 17" above the gas cap base, just below my eye level and the wind buffeting is bad. As a matter of fact, so bad that tomorrow I expect delivery of my 19" Clearview shield for which I'm expecting better results based on conversation with Clearview. Tell ya what I'll do, if you want to try my stock cut down shield, PM me and I'll ship it to ya (but I want it back )

I had a Corbin on my Vstar for 20K miles, best seat ever but you must give it 1K miles for break in. you wont regret it. When I first got my Corbin I was pissed; it was hard as a rock. Actually went out, dropped another $350+ and bought a Mustang seat but it didn't take long to be displeased with the riding position. I went back to the Corbin, gave it through the break in time and never thought about it again. Hard, yep but I could ride for hours without pain.

Ordered the shortest one they had, took advantage of the 10% discount, no vent, no tint. After the quoted 2 week leadtime, they shipped it on time and will be here on Thursday! John Lauk = Nice guy, very responsive to my million questions!

Yep, forecast looks great for tomorrow. Ill take my 20 min ride to work for sure; best I'll get in for the day though; Pesky job! Certainley Long Island is beautiful for the beaches, wineries, farms. For riding though, I get off the island as often as I can. Upstate NY offers far more for riding ....
