  1. Will the rack you are designing work on either the RSTD or the RSV? I need a luggage rack for my RSV since I removed the trunk. I would want it to be easily removed as I would only use it when on long trips.
  2. Do any of you guys know if the luggage rack for the RSTD will bolt up on the 2nd gen RSV? I have taken the trunk off my RSV, and want to add a luggage rack for long trips. Thanks
  3. I've pulled the trunk off my 03 RSV also. I really like the way it handles and looks. I have a set of old seats that I am having modified into a two piece "gunslinger" type seat. I am still figuring out the bracket for both antennas. What I really need to find out is if a luggage rack for a RSTD will fit on the RSV? I wold be putting it on and off so I can have someway to strap luggage on for longer trips, as the rear seat is going to be pretty much for looks and I don't think a bag will stay on. If anyone knows if the luggage rack will fit, let me know please.
  4. Just finished 1054 miles certifiable in 18 1/2 hrs a few weeks ago. Rode with a GL1800 and a Vulcan. Tenaha, Tx to Midland, TX and back. Way boring ride. Waiting on the IBA now. Have done several 5-700 mile days with no problems. Left Idaho Springs Co. last year at 8:00 AM and was sitting in the I-HOP in Amarillo at 4:00 PM. This RSV is just made for eating the miles in comfort.
  5. Can someone post a picture of where the air mixture screws are located? I have searched the diagrams and cannot determine exactly where they are. One of my buddies said he thought I would have to pull the tank and possibly the carbs in order to drill out the plugs so I could get to them. That seems like a lot of trouble. I have 49K on my 03, and the carbs have never been sync'd. My mileage has also dropped some, and on startup, I have been smelling gas. Yesterday, coming back from a poker run, we were running pretty hard to the house (101 deg), and I hit reserve at 139 miles. I ususally hit it about 170. I know the mpg drops pretty good when I'm doing 75-85 by the GPS, but it did seem worse this time.
  6. FWIW, I did the clutch upgrade to the Barnett SR2 with all new plates last weekend. I followed the write ups that I found here and elsewhere. I'm no mechanic, but it really was pretty easy. About the only thing that I would throw in is-do not pull the clutch lever while it is all apart. I did, and it caused the push rod to come out a little. So, I pulled it out to see what it looked like. Anyway, I didn't get it all the way back in. After bolting the pressure plate down properly, I couldn't move the clutch lever. I had to pull the plate back off, and get the push rod all the way back in, and then the lever would work. Also, BE SURE and put the ground wire back on (if you took it off). The bike won't start without it. Scared the crap out of me. Figured I had really screwed up until I saw the wire loose. I have about 40 miles on the new setup, and the bike does seem to hook up better especially in 4th and 5th. I will change the oil and filter now to make sure any debris that may have fallen in gets removed.
  7. Thanks for the ideas. I may take some of the plastic off w/ the dremel. If I can find some of those 90 deg. connectors, that should give me plenty of clearance. I'll still keep an eye on them for a while.
  8. I just installed my Stebel horn, in the place where my old horn was, and the connections on the bottom of the horn are very close to the pipes. Has anyone has had any problem with the wires melting? I did bend the connections almost at a 90 deg angle to get a little more clearance. Just wondering if any of the guys that have the horn installed in this manner have had any problems.
  9. I've got about 30K miles on my Bubs, and have repacked them twice. The first time I just used fiberglass insulation. It didn't seem to last very long. This time I bought mufler packing from the Yamaha dealer. It seems to quieten them done a little, but when you get on it they still talk to you. On a side note- while I had the baffles out, I couldn't resist cranking the bike. Talk about loud pipes. It sounded just like a V8 with the headers open. My wife said she could hear me inside the house, and I was probably 3/4 mile away. Needless to say the baffles went back in, and now everyone is happy.
