  1. I went from a 1100 ACE to a RSMV in 03. A month later road it 2up from E. Texas to Vegas and back around thru Colorado. Averaged about 400-500 miles per day. The wife loves it. She could actually go to sleep back there. Since then have done a couple of trips to the Carolinas 2up and several to Big Bend. I have ridden the GW and it has awesome power but it just doesn't fit me. I'm 5'7" and 145#. I had the seat cut down and added the Flanders bars which really helped. I put 72K miles on the 03 and bought a 07 last year. Did a SS1000 and BB1500 in May from E. Tx to San Diego. You will not find a more reliable bike or one that loves the open road more. Oh yeah some whine and some don't. My 03 screamed but the 07 is very quiet.
  2. Other than the original stock tires and one set of Avons, I've always run Metz 880 on both my RSV and no problems. 73K miles on my 03 and 15K on my 07 so far. Usually change both at the same time around 12-15K miles. Keep the pressure in the 42 front and 46 rear. Never had a problem.
  3. I have the Yamaha passing lamps on my 07 RSMV. I have also upgraded to the HID headlight. The HID is so bright, you can't even see the passing lights or they just barely appear kinda yellowish. I want to change them out for something that puts out more light and will hopefully be able to use the current Yamaha light bar. Any ideas?
  4. Just finished my second SS1000-Tenaha, Tx to WillCox, Az for the 1000 in 18 hrs. Stopped for 6 hr rest and finished in San Diego, Ca for the BB1500 in 34 hrs. Then roamed back by the Sequoias and the Grand Canyon home. 3900 miles in 6 days. Great trip with my son and one other rider. It's really not that hard if you just keep moving. Plus the RSV is made for eating the miles
  5. Got home yesterday from 3900 mile 7 day run from East Texas to San Diego for a SS1000 and the BB1500. Came back thru Sequoia and by the Grand Canyon. My mileage ranged anywhere from low 23 running 85-90 GPS in West Tx wind to mid upper 30's most of the time. Wind was def a problem with the mileage and handling to me. I also noticed decreased power above 6,000'. This is my second RSV-72K on the first- and I love it. Its the best mile eating ride for me. Love the looks and sound of the HD, but I don't think I would be happy w/the price or the performance unless I upgraded it to stage 2 or 3.
  6. Check with Nanci at Ace High Leathers. She has started making some very cool custom bibs for the RSV. I just got a whale tail style for mine. Very nice lady and very good work.
  7. Nanci's making me a whale tail bib now and I should have it back maybe next week. I'll post some pix when I get it. She's great to work with.
  8. Has it failed to start since you added the switch or does it work when you turn it on after the bike is running? That would be a pretty easy fix if it powers up fine with the motor running.
  9. How and where did you install the switch? I have a HID in my RSV that I got from Canada and sometimes it lights and sometimes it doesn't. I just have to keep turning the switch on and off til it lights. I read somewhere about using time delay relay so that it doesn't come on until the engine is up and running. I may look into the TDR. I love the light even with the hassle and will not be going back to regular bulb.
  10. I'm on my second Canadian HID setup. The first had some problem and was grounding out to the headlight bucket somehow. Sent it back and ordered another one. They didnt refund or offer any help. Got the second one in now. Extremely bright. Side by side with my sons Venture it over powers his by a lot. I have the same problem with it starting up. It may or it may not. Have to start the bike and then look to see if its on. I ran a direct power supply to the battery and followed the instructions. I still like it enough to keep trying to get it to come on when I start the bike cause it is that much brighter.
  11. I use a rubber mallet to work them off to repack the baffles. Just keep whacking them back and forth. I pull mine about once a year and they are pretty tough every time even though I use neverseize when putting them back.
  12. Buddy, Do you make anything that would divert the airflow that comes over the lower cowling and under the fairing? I get a lot of buffeting thru there. I can put my feet up on the cowling and it really calms the air down. I think a bracket could be attached to the air filter housing and a "wing" of some kind that would adjust to divert the air.
  13. If you find a set, please post pictures. I ahve been trying to figure out how to make something to block/divert the air over the top of the lowers. It causes a lot of buffeting. I can put my feet up there and it really smooths the air out. I just dont like riding with my feet in that position for very long.
  14. I pulled mine off last year. Put the CB in the saddlebag. No longer riding 2up. Makes the bike feel a lot lighter. I have some pics in my gallery
  15. I removed the trunk on mine as well. I have a few pix in my gallery. My wife got a GW trike, so she doesn't ride with me anymore. I really liked the look of the HD Streetglide, but I love the V4. I like the way the bike handles much better now. It's amazing how much lighter it feels without the trunk. I do miss the extra storage, but I have a bag that I put on for trips. I have a couple of different seats that I put on depending on what I'm doing. It's not for everyone, but if you like the Street Glide look, you can get close with the RSV and have the performance of the V4 without spending a lot of money on a HD.
