  1. My first helmet was a sort of metal flake dark orange and black stripes! I would like to try one of those bubble shields on my current 3/4 helmet! Thanks Don!
  2. I put on a g string one time and I never did find it again!
  3. Thanks guys! Ya know sometimes I think about getting a different bike but who the heck could answer all these questions!?
  4. Thank you my other brother! Now I am ready to get er done!
  5. Thanks brother! Now how about removing the little buggers without removing the whole fairing? nyone?
  6. Can anyone out there tell me what is the number of the bulb behind the right or tachometer section on the early first gen? It seems mine burned out and can only see half of my dash insruments at night now. I can get it when I pull it apart but would like to buy it first. BTW can that area be accessed by just removing the wind screen or do I need to remove the entire fairing? (again)
  7. I rode in (again) today. A chilly 70 degrees!
  8. I put the shifter on the splines backward once. Couldnt figure out what the heck I did wrong then I noticed it shifted just fine "backward"! DUH!
  9. And full of HOT AIR!
  10. Grasshoppers! Popular in mexico fried with salt and lime! Delicious! Crunchy! Like eating potato chips with legs.
  11. Gold valve crtridge emulator FEGV S3801
  12. I put the racetec cartridge emulators in my 83 Ventures fork and the ride and handleing is awesome. Its just really hard to convince folks that the anti-dive is not such a good thing.
  13. What he said! (Not just because I have the same 83 standard) Is yours the same very subtle red flake underneath?
  14. The bass blockers should only remove frequencies from say 150 or 250 on down this is the potion of the spectrum that is felt rather than heard. It takes a great deal of energy to power those frequencies therefore the blockers help the overall sound. Short of mounting a large subwoofer cabinet on the bike it is unreasonable to expect the configuations of a motorcycles sound system to overcome all the road/ wind noise to produce sound in these ranges. Besides unless your listening tastes fall into the rap catagorie most music is not recorded with strong bumps in those areas. (Think kids in the thumpa thumpa cars going by!)
  15. Well Al, the springs shopuld be easy to get to in fact exercice some caution when removing the top caps as they will be under some load from underneath. There may also be a spacer and a fender washer or two under there. Be sure to loosen the pinch bolts on the top triple clamp before trying to remove those top caps or thread damage to the top caps could run you about 30.00 per plug from MamaYamaha. As far as the oil if you are ok with the weight and oil height you can leave that in there.
  16. The Brace will fit fine and as for the swap I have done mine by swapping from the lower legs down no problems. I eliminated the anti dive stuff. I used stainless lines and man she stops on a dime now!
  17. Everyone here seems to think the same thing "that if I was hit by another motorist I would just drive away and chalk it up to experience." I'm not sure that any of you wouldnt at least try to find out where this person lived so that if there were damage to my bike I could seek damages. Thats not even mentioning the idea that these girls were way out of line. Are all of you really so forgiving? Or is hind sight just so much fun to espouse.
  18. In addition to the springs I added a set of gold valve cartrige emulators when I rebuilt mine. Not cheap but worth the money in my opinion my 83 really handles and rides great now. Better than new!
  19. Thanks guys! How about the handleing of the GW? I rode the bike last night and in comparison to the Venture it seemed heavy mushy and sluggish. Is this normal for this bike? The overal condition of the bike was far less than pristine with some pretty amatuer alterations and a missing left side battery cover. I recommended my friend keep looking. Maybe someone here could help us find a clean bike for under three grand. The buyer is open minded to brand and size. The bike would be mostly used for commuting to work with a few weekenders now and again.
  20. Anybody have any knowledge about Wings that might help me? I am going with a friend tonight to look at an 84 GW interstate with 53k miles. The guy is asking 2400 but is negotiable. I know! I know its not a Venture but he's my buddy! Whaddayagonnado?
  21. R-1 I'm ok with that bike but I ride too many miles for one of those!
  22. So a couple weeks ago I broke down on a trip and a local shop replaced the ECU/ignitor on my Kawasaki Vucan. After replacing the unit they discovered the source of the problem was that some of the wires under the tank (lots of engine heat) cracked open or broke and shorted out the ECU. So in order to get me on my way without any more delay they spliced wires into the harness. Everything has been fine so far but before I paid the bill the service manager let me know that because the entire wiring harness was not replaced it was possible that the problem could recurr at some time and recomended that I have the harness replaced when I get home. So the question is: Bite the bullet and have local dealer replace the harness or Replace the harness myself or Try to redo the repair by soldering in replacement wires and insulating or ? This was an $800.00 repair and I am of limited $$ I appreciate all advice from you folks as you have saved my bacon more than once getting my old 83 Venture back up and going.
  23. Hi Christian! I have a set on my 83 I can measure up for you if you want. They dont look to difficult to fabricate. Let me know and I can take a picture or two also. Hope you are getting some rides in before the weather turns ugly.
  24. So I guess its time to start working on that wheelie car I always wanted. Dont be blind this law should have been written to include all vehicles or none at all. Better yet just enforce the laws that are in place now. Do you really think that a kid who is going to wheelie at 80 mph is going to change his mind because of this law. Read my lips "NO NEW LAWS!"
  25. When I did my 83 I purchased a set of heavy duty springs (along with friction discs) from Barrnett. Turns out (oddly enough) they are springs originally for an old sportster. A little more lever effort but not a problem to me and the clutch never slips no matter what hooliganism I try.
