I'm more a go kinda person too.. Adding the R1 calipers to my Roadie was one of the best mods on it too. I've already been thinking about swapping the calipers between the two bikes since I'll be pulling the trailer with the Venture... I hear you on the locking up part.. That's why I like the R1 on the roadie so much.. doesn't lock up near as easy in a panic situation, but it whoa's it in a big hurry. Matter a fact, had to jump on the brakes on the Venture this morning, and I DID NOT like the way the back locked up so easily... Startled the wife on the back, but luckily she isn't the squeamish type and just rode with it.. I wonder if I can get by with swapping the master cyl too???? I'll have to look into that... Would be nice if I could. OK.. now I need to find all these GO mods ya'll are doing on the second gens..

Cool stuff.. It's nice when the wife gets involved and takes an interest in your hobbys. I was lucky.. My wife "made" me buy OUR new Venture on my Birthday... AND, she said NO WAY were we getting rid of the roadie. She likes it too much.... She is already picking out her arm rests and cup holders and everything else, and it hasn't been a week yet.. . Get your wife really involved, meet good bike people, and before you know it, she'll be spending the chrome money just as fast as you are... Still not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing after all these years..

Very cool trailer!!! It's the little things that I think really set it off too like the lobster and serpant cutouts under the tiedows.. Just goes to show the love labor put into it.

If it is insured, which I can't imagine it isn't, the insurance company will want to make sure it's OK before they pay out... Just take it to a GOOD shop and let the pros make sure.... Wrecked bikes are a lot more dangerous to just assume everything looks good on... BE SURE... would hate to see a frame split in the middle of a switch back 6 months later.

aaaahhhh.. so the new rails AREN'T as big huh? hhhhmmm... maybe some solid rod rails are in order... send them out to be chromed after making them.... I got mine ordered... but, if I don't like them, I think I see a next winter project about to happen... OH.. and I had already found the thread about leveling them out since they don't fit right... YA know.. I just don't understand Yamaha and their half assed stuff some times.

I've got steel laying all over my garage.. Also got a torch and welder.. I'm good to go.. Made a really nice bracket for my Howard's Hog Horns I've got hangin on my Roadie.. Just something about the satisfaction of showing something off you made yourself.

air box all dressed up

Very cool addition.. thanks for letting us know where you got them. I already had it in my mind I was going to stop by an auto parts store or two to look for trim and lighting ideas.. I'll be thinking about the airbox more now when I'm there. -

Thank you. Mine is on the correct side. I can't imagine the wires to the antennas would be interchangable though? I guess the radio on these just aren't as good as the ones in the car. I can't get it to autolock on a few of my favorite stations. Guess I'll have to program them in the hard way. -

Now that is really cool! I was looking at mine last night trying to figure out how to make it look better. I just don't like the looks of it, but that sure does help a lot! Where did you find stickers like that? -
More great stuff... seems a lot of standard stuff too... I'm ordering parts today... passing lamps, saddlebag rails (I KNOW I'll end up easing it over in it's side eventually:whistling:) LED tail lights and 15" brake light bar... OH, and an attorney my wife works for gave us a gift certificate to a bike part site, so we'll be ordering Stieble horns from there... Next week or two will either be bars or risers (a next post I will be asking) and a back rest and highway pegs.. Then... WOW.. what a list I have made up already... UV or Blacklight accent lighting is high on my list too. I ride with it on around the engine at night, and amazing how much more seeable you are. In 4 years of using them, have yet to get pulled over for them..

Yep.. that does help. I guess they just look much beefier in real pictures then they do in the catalog. They look like pretty thin tubing in the catalog. Im'a learnin'

I had just stumbled on the pictures of what was left ot Eck's bike (WOW, So sorry to see and hear that story) but I noticed he also had the same rails I am asking about. Anyone know the brand?

Standing behind the bike.. what side should it be on? I was thinking for some strange reason my antennas are reversed... not picking up all the radio stations I normally do, and seems the last time I saw a venture, the CB antenna was on the right side as you stand behind the bike looking. -
I'd rather do high winds than rain any day, and I've been known to pull the bike out to go for a ride when it was raining.. I've ridden on some pretty bad windy days in Illinois.. all over the road, but it doesn't bother me or scare me.. just makes me tired as hell by the time I finally get home.

I was getting ready to order the lower saddle bag rails from Yamaha today, and I noticed on Ruffy's bike, it appears he has another brand on them. I posted askign him what brand, but no reply yet, and I want to get my order in as soon as I can. Is there someone out there other than Yamaha making lower rails? It appears Ruffy's rails are a lot beefier and better made.

Yeah well.. I got a way of working over engines.. never know.. maybe some day...
-
Hey Ruffy.. Who makes the saddle bag trim rails on your bike? Those don't look like the Yamaha rails?

control cable lube
similost replied to venture2008's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I forgot some bikes, like the Venture has more than a cable from the grip to the carb or throttle body.. Man.. I sure ain't gonna enjoy lubing this bike.. but I'll still do it the same way as far as how to get the oil in the cable. Best way I've found.. -

Good point.. Might have to do that. I did call the guy that sold the bike to me, and had a talk with him. He would like me to bring it back in so they can double check everything. I did check most everything so far though. They didn't get it right the first time.. why bother for a second is kind of the way I'm feeling. The sales rep said he would be having a discussion with the service manager though. Not that that does me much good, but at least they know they have a person that isn't paying attention to detail. Might save someone's life... -
My wife and I just got new bank cards in the mail the other day.. I was wondering WTF? My card is still good for another year and a half.. Start reading the paper in it, and apparently one of their "third party" vendors had their system compromised, and our information may have been stolen... SO.. new cards.. The bank never said who it was that leaked the information, and now we have to activate new cards with new numbers... which is a REAL PAIN IN THE ASS because I have a few automatic payments coming off of each of the cards, plus other accounts we have out there we'll have to change the info on before we can just click use this card.. Of course the bank was polite in their letter and said "Thanks for your business"...

I've been watching the thread about the bad teeth on the drive shaft.. I'm already all over that one.. I think I'll be visiting the honda dealr just up the street and getting me some grease and taking care of that as soon as I can. I know I had issues with my Roadstar and the neck not being greased well. Yeah, they think grease is gold.. I don't understand that.. cheap stuff compared to warranty repairs.. -
Interesting you like your R1 swap. I did the same thing on my Roadstar and loved it.. BIG difference in stopping power. I think I'll have to start shopping around to see if I can find me a pair. I do have a single R1 laying around I can use on the rear. Or will the R1 calipers not fit on the second generation. I know the fronts look like they would.

Thanks. Yep, I've got lots of tools.. I did actually go over a lot of them last night, and didn't find anything that was loose. I did find the assembly instructions on here last night, so I'm printing it out and plan to go over everything thing in it particularly. I hate dealing with replacing lost or damaged parts from things being loose, but even more so, I prefer to trust my safety only to myself. -
So I get the new bike home Tuesday night. The wife and I take about a 5 mile ride to check it out. Pull up in the driveway, and notice one of the rear speakers aren't working.. BRAND NEW.. come on now... SO, I call the dealer the next morning, and of course, depends on how busy we are if we can get to it right away or not... UM... I just spent how much for what?!?!?! Got home last night and decided I'll look at it myself.. Pull the seats, and yep, sure enough, plain as day is a a connector with nothing plugged into it... I start looking around for the other end. It's up under the trunk, with the wire running between the trunk and the trunk bracket. You could tell exactly what happened... They put it together, couldn't get the connector pushed back through from between the bracket and the trunk, so said WTF.. it's only one speaker.. I ended up pulling the speaker pod loose, and it gave enough clearance to force the connector through... I also noticed that one of the connectors for one of the antennas wasn't routed correctly and placed in the holder for it.. and another wire laying loose that should have been run through a wire keeper.. SO.. I sorted it all out, put it all back together, and now I got sound all the way around, and no worries of wires rubbing from being in wrong places.. It sure makes me wonder what other problems I'm going to find from the dealer assembly though... If they do something like this with a brand new bike, I'll be damned if I'm going to trust my life to others when you have no ideas if they take shortcuts or not.. At least when I work on it, I know what was done.
