An old Personal Computer (PS/2) keyboard extension cable will work. They can be had for like $4/5 dollars.

The dilemma: Wanted a helmet mounted video camera specific to motorcycle use. Easy on/off, multiple video speeds and sequenced pictures 1s, 3s, 5s, etc. External mic jack for inside helmet mounted microphone, replaceable/spare battery (2hr min each), waterproof, image stabilization, Bluetooth or WiFi some means of changing camera setting on the side of the road. Didn't want to put the dollars into a GoPo (nor look like sponge bob with it helmet mounted) as we already have two HD digital cameras that shoot HD 1080p/60 video and I always carry a digital camera (has video too) around my neck when I ride. I've been looking for sometime before I settled on one for Christmas. I have used for a number of years a 720x480/30 $9.95 Mini DV80 from China. Not too bad but as technology has improved I wish to upgrade. However it lacked waterproof, configure without computer, no external mic jack and mounting options. I should mention two things 1) I have tried RAM mounts but with a windshield it is limiting and the vibration was BAD even on cameras with image stabilization. Hence a helmet mounted camera. And 2) I have followed this guys reviews (he also rides motorcycles and his Action Cam reviews include clips while riding). His personal choice of a helmet cam is what I got, only the newer version. Anyway back on task - while reading the Modius forums I read a post about the Contour +2 on sale for 1/2 off. Yes, for $150 off $299.99. It met all my requirements except one - no image stabilization. I figure my head, neck and shoulders will provide enough vibration dampening for that. I ordered it from B&H Photo Video ($149) Christmas week, got it in three days, free shipping, no sales tax. The waterproof case is good for 190' (60meters). The other models are water resistant to 1 meter. But don't have a replaceable battery, Bluetooth, external mic jack. Guess you can't have everything but this one came the closest. Now for screen shots of the software. This camera has built in GPS and can display position (Google maps) altitude, distance while recording and speed graphs. We time and time again pushed Darwin's theory to the limit. How we made it out of our teens alive god only knows. Oh my poor mother, rest her soul - she earned it!

I speed up and slip in between the last few cars. I have found there is often free food (and some times free beer!) after these events.

No Saddlebum, not strange at all. In fact you just wrote exactly what I do, bet we're close to the same age ;-) I still play cassettes in my truck too and have no plans on trading it in. Sometime ago I was thinking of pulling the cassette deck out of the bike. Then my mom passed leaving a large collection of cassette tapes. So the cassette player stays and I enjoy both the old music and her memory while listening. I too would like one of the kids to transfer the tapes to digital but they do not have the time and no way to do it quickly. Because the tapes DO wear out. Each song has tobe played to be recorded/convereted to digital and they are not fond of the music either. For digital music I have several options. Several years ago on this site someone listed a cassette MP3 player. It uses a SD card (16GB) with recorded mp3 music and works in the cassette player (in the truck too) AND as a portable mp3 player with earplugs and a remote! (do a search on ebay for it, get the 16gb or larger one) When I retired my team gave me an iPod classic 160GB. I plug it into aux port behind the cassette door (use same plug from my GPS when I need turn by turn directions) I can listen to music for days with the iPod. So yes, I still use my cassette play in the Venture and in my 1994 Chevy C1500.

I can appreciate your frustration. A year or so ago I missed a ride to AR because I had no clutch. I replaced the clutch (and brake) lines with stainless lines and added speed-bleeders. Every thing went great except the clutch. Even used the hand-vac pump. Just couldn't get the clutch to bleed. Did what this forum suggested (not the first tme this forum helped me). Used velcro wire ties to hold the clutch lever pulled over night. Next morning worked great.

Sometimes the best gift is to graciously accept the given "gift". I think it's fantastic that your Dad rode motorcycles into his 80's. Not many folks can do that. Enjoy it, and send him pictures of you riding it.

I too keep the bikes in the garage and the cars in the driveway :-) I cover the bikes when I travel to keep prying eyes off them. Only time I washed a bike cover was when a cat jumped up on the cover and peed on it. Washed it in the hotel bathtub to get the stink out, then used the hotel hair dryer to dry it so I could repack it.

I don't do road rage (anymore). But I do take driver description, make model car color and license plate number. At first opportunity I call 311 non-emergency number they often transfer me to 911. Explain that I'm on a motorcycle and this person that almost hit (killed) me has some sort of impairment to not of seen me with their erratic driving :-) Either they are under the influence of drugs/alcohol or are dealing with a personal medical emergency, I'm very concerned about their safety. Word usually gets back to them about the "motorcycle" that reported them.

Yep, did the same. The wire coat hanger. When they were made from stock thicker than baling wire, hard to find any more. Use to carry them as "spare parts". Much like duct tape today :-)

For the few dollars difference. The no worry, they last for like 50,000 miles. I've been running mine for years.

Since I retired, I have no pet peeves. I just smile, shake my head and enjoy the entertainment :-)

Many times they will move just across the city/country line to avoid taxes. I do not believe them to be "honorable" in their business practices. Then again look at Washington DC. It's every man for himself.

If a 20yr unit, they won't repair it. Probably freon. Get a unit the right size, not too small, not too big. An oversized unit will cool quick but won't dehumidify. The unit has to run, recirculate the air to dehumidify. Ask around who neighbors suggest. Even the Home Depot guys can give a good suggestion, they work with homeowners all day and hear the horror stories.

While it maybe obvious to some it may not be to all. While looking at the calendar for up coming events/rides I found it difficult to figure out where these events take place. I have to go back and search the threads to try to identify the location. Camp sites, blocks of hotel rooms are listed but still no city/state. Often times I have to look up the originator's profile and if listed see which state they reside. Would it be possible to list the nearest city, state as part of the calendar entry? Just sayin...

If you have it torn down that far and they need greased, just replace with new ones. Note the miles and check them again based on what you find out. If they still look good extend the mileage if not check sooner.

Don't know how old your son is. But time for some real guilt as a lesson. Put the facts on the table, the damage to him and the bike. You know because you have dropped it and this was much more than a drop. But what hurts you the most (the guilt part) more than the damage to the bike is that he lied to you. You thought he loved you enough to tell the truth, what did you do wrong as a dad in raising him where he felt he couldn't tell you the truth (even more guilt). Let him stew over it a few hours/days, let the guilt sink in. He'll come around.
