  1. You can't help but to wonder what happened? It shakes your own thought of vulnerability. David is a very very experienced rider. Tire blew? Mechanical failure? Stray animal? Or did he have a sudden medical issue? Continued prayers for the Lords healing hand on David and comfort to the family.

  3. Yes, I needed the longer itty bitty bolts (hex screws) when I installed mine. But mine came with them.
  4. I'd go for the Victory Crossroads. More options, easy to work on, better two-up. Test road one the other day. Some "draw-backs" cable clutch, no ABS. Nice electronics package.

Depending what you read: (following are dyno'd numbers) Voyager has 72hp/93ftlbs torque, 36mpg, wet weight 761 Venture has 79hp/77ftlbs torque, 40mpg, wet weight 869 If I was to buy new, I'd get the Voyager to get the new technology, FI, Audio, digital instruments, throttle by wire, etc. If I bought used I'd go for the Venture at half the price. Some can still be had with some of the 5 year warranty remaining and low mileage. I just returned from a 2,500 mile ride in the Ozarks with two Voyager's and my Venture. The bikes are very evenly matched. Just sayin...
  7. I have an 05 V-Star 1100. They are rock solid. 1) check/change the plugs 2) sync the carbs 3) check/adjust the TPS (throttle position sensor) 4) run 87 octane gas If it sat awhile, may have to remove the carbs to clean them or run a higher mixture of seafoam. Drain the tank, add new gas and 50% seafoam (just a 1/2 gallon mixture). Will smoke like crazy but should clean it. Also, never, ever give it gas while trying to start it. Use the choke. If you try to twist the throttle you will get a kick-back to the starter and twist the starter bolts and ruin the starter & FLYWHEEL.   8. +1 That's what I'd do. And I've done it three times without any problems. Although, I do check the plug on a regular basis and the air pressure each and every time I ride plugged tire or not.
  9. Well first thing this morning I put my wheel in the back of my truck and was at the dealer's shop door the moment they opened. Told them the story, he walked back into his office and came out with the bearing collar in hand. He said they noticed it and had another bike in the shop that it would fit and thought they forgot it and took that bike apart again to check and where surprised it was't it. Hummm... now they are wondering which bike left without it. Filed a damage/claim report so when the bike showed up they would repair it free. Where they glad it was a loose wheel and no one got hurt nor a bike got torn up. I knew something was wrong when I tried to torq the rear axle nut and it would lock the wheel from spinning way before I could put any torq on it (glad I didn't tare up the seals). So the bike is back together, will ride it up to get inspected tomorrow and I'm set for my trip. Oh, I swung by Harbor Freight on the way home and now I have a motorcycle tire balancer stand. Balanced it with 2 weights.

  11. Dang! I hate going to the dealer. Took my rear wheel to the dealer to mount a new tire. Went to put the wheel on today only to find out the hub is missing the bearing collar. Dang! I hate going to the dealer. Also noticed a bunch of new weights, 8 of them on the rim to balance the new tire. Hummm... don't suppose they tried to balance the tire without the bearing collar do you? Dang! I hate going to the dealer. The collar is only like $9.00 but I have a 4 day ride planned and I doubt I can get one in time for the ride. Of course the dealer is closed Monday, don't suppose they are smart enough to find it on the floor and say ooops we forgot someones bearing collar. Dang! I hate going to the dealer. Or do they just trash all the "missing parts" left on the shop floor. Dang! I hate going to the dealer, you just can't trust them to do anything right. The reason I brought just the wheel was so I could grease my own splines and NOT strip out my mufflers nor saddlebag bolts like they did the last time. Dang! I hate going to the dealer.
  12. I assume you had it removed Laparoscopically. I'm surprised they didn't give you a diet. Stay away from fatty foods. Potato chips, hamburgers, steaks, snack crackers, butter, etc. You will have a harder time digesting fatty foods now. However, over time you will be able to eat them again but keep it to the lean side. For now go with cereal, fruits, vegies, salads (but watch the dressing), soups (read the can).
  13. Not braggin, just sayin, I have several bikes, retired and all I do is ride. I check my tire pressures each and every time I ride. Even from one day to the next, never know if you picked up a nail or not. I have too much riding on them (me) not to check.   14. Use a flexible shaft on a 1/4 hand driver. Leave the lowers on. Not hard at all.
  15. I got mine. I purchased an 8GB HCSD and loaded it up. Just a few notes to add to what Travelin Man said. The "cassette" has an Equalizer that goes Bass-Treble-Normal as best as these old ears can tell. The battery lasts about 6 hours as I used it while working in the garage and just let it play continuously. Now this part is strange - in both my truck and on the bike if the engine is off I can use the remote, with the engine running it won't work. I believe this due to the remote being very weak. It has an effective range of less than 3 feet. It does not use a playlist, it plays the songs in order as saved to the SD card. Increasing the volume on the "cassette" increases the input volume on the Venture (or truck) can make a substantial increase to the output volume. Pressing 100 on the remote will playback the 100th song recorded on the SD card. Hint: Turn the "cassette" on, Set the volume on the "cassette", use the remote to select the number of the song (or it always starts at the first song), select the Equalizer setting (if needed). Push it into the cassette player. The control unit on the venture can be used to adjust volume, bass, treble, etc. all the normal sound qualities but will not forward, reverse, skip, etc. Like previously stated, it will play each song in order. Which is no big deal for me as I just copy the songs I want to the SD anyway. It came with a USB cord for charging and connecting to the computer as a card reader. Two chargers, 110VAC and a cig plug USB charger which is great because I can use it for all my other USB things. Ear phones are crap, the left one on mine was dead. The "cassette" and a remote. Chinglish instructions. Conclusion: If you don't already have a mp3 player this maybe an option for you. If you have a mp3 player, use it with the mp3 input to the right of the cassette player on the Venture. At least at stop lights (you wouldn't do this while riding would you?) you can change to the songs you want with out removing the "cassette". Have yet to figure out what the CH- and CH+ button on the remote do.
  16. I just returned from there. See my earlier post. Also, something strange with the GPS units. We all had different models but all Garmin on our bikes. We would lose sattelite connection hence our planned routes multiple times a day. Sometimes for hours. I guess around Harrison AR is known for weak signals?
  17. We travel each summer to PA to visit my wifes folks. As you enter PA from WV we notice the speed limit drops from 70mph to 55mph. Didn't take long to realize the drop in speed was due to the condition of the roads. You just can't drive any faster than 55mph without tearing up your vehicle. Got to be the worst roads in the country. They say it's the weather, nope, a lot of northern states has way better roads with a lot worse weather.
  18. I did something similar. I also cut down a 17mm socket. But I use the HF serpentine belt tool with the cut-down socket. Just a word of caution, you can't torq it to spec and the serpentine belt tool is LONG so it's very easy to put more than enough leverage to it.

  21. Just put an Avon Venom 150/90 HB15 on today. Paid $136 and $25 to mount/balance on the bike. Replaced my ME880 with 11,158 miles down to the wear bars. Thought I'd try the Avons this time around.   23. Just returned from seven days of riding the Ozarks, Missouri and Oklahoma. Some of the best riding I have ever experienced (not scenery but roads, the scenery ain't bad). Twists, turns, up hills down hills, switchbacks. Ft Smith, Harrison, Jasper, Mt Judea, Pig Trail, Eureka Springs, Branson, Yellville, Tahlequah, Sallisaw. 2,500 miles of fun. Had no idea such great riding existed in that area. I have 1,300 pictures and over 5GB of videos. It will take me some time to sort, edit and post them. The folks were "Texas friendly" and the prices for food and lodging were very reasonable. Now that I know a little bit more about the area I'm going to ride it again. We had mapped out all the routes on our GPS prior to the trip but changed plans once there taking the routes suggested by the local folks.   24. OK, my turn... what is a BuddyRich cable? This site has more good stuff, always learning new stuff. I read the other day on this site how to quickly set the cruise by pressing set and then acc twice. Worked great. I would always just press set, hold my breath and wrist real still for like 5 miles to get it to "hold" the set speed.
