We're talking about a goat path, hardly a road, and a water ford. The US about starved out the little town that used to cater only to the park visitors. They would either push a rowboat across, ride a burro or carry you on their backs. Go to town and have a Mexican beer, taco lunch. The Mexican folks would get their mail and do their shopping on the USA side as it was closer than the nearest Mexican town. It added to the "adventure" of the park. I think it's a good thing but 10 years is too late.

I dunno, I'd be afraid to wear one riding in the mountains, you'd bounce like a beach ball all the way to the bottom.

My Father took a bad fall
aharbi replied to Flyinfool's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
That was one nasty fall! Prayers to you, your Dad and Mom. -

UPDATE - everything is gone. UPDATE just to be fair. I've been working by first request. You may not see the post as some have PM their request. I have over the years donated my used but working computer stuff to Goodwill. I have another truck load of printers, monitors, scanners, etc. Stuff that is working but outdated and too costly to mail. But some of the smaller stuff may be of use to fellow members. I'm a true believer in recycling and would hate just to pitch it if someone here has a use for it, just pay for USPS mailing. Or if in Texas just ride to meet. 4GB DDR2 800MHz (2x2gb) - spoken for 1GB DDR2 PC5300 (667MHz) for netbook or laptop - Goodwill 512MB (2 x 256MB) DDR 133MHz 133 pin from Gateway laptop - Goodwill PCMCIA card for laptop - spoken for 10/100 LAN card for desktop - Goodwill 10/100/1000 LAN card for desktop - Goodwill PCI SCSI-II - pending Dual display graphic card - spoken for Wireless Mouse - eats batteries at least once a month - Goodwill Garmin USB Laptop GPS with North America V8. - spoken for WIRED - Linksys BEFSR41 V.2 - Goodwill 35MM 1800dpi slide/negative scanner (USB 1.1) - spoken for WOW! Oh my gosh! I rode that several years ago. I was "puckered" so tight I had nothing but prune juice for the next 3 days! I tried not to look down but I couldn't help myself and to think I paid to do it! I don't remember but either the two inside or two oustside lanes are paved.

Aaahhh, that explains it. Bet you spoke to them in English didn't you. Yep I'm sure that's it. They didn't understand a word you said.

The coldest I've ridden here in Texas is 24F and that's only several times in the past and then only for a few hours till it warms up. Even with heated grips my finger tips are what I can't keep warm. Finally I invested in a pair of heated gloves $169. No more problem.

and here it has finely cooled down enough for a comfortable ride. Rode to Big Bend for a week. Morning were a bit cool in the 50's F and days warmed up to mid 80's F.

So often we post information in an effort to help someone who may come across the same problem. Well I'd like to say thanks. Been working on rewiring the passing lamps from the POs not so great job. They work great now with an on/off switch and relay. Thank You for the information on wiring the relay, where to pick up the switch-on DC tap-in. Same with mounting the Kuryakyn battery/volt led meter. I checked the voltage at the battery and at the dash cig lighter (less than .28VDC difference) and mounted it on the triple tree with the power at the cig lighter as suggested. Thank You, was easy after reading the posts. Mounted the Stebel horn using Carbon_One's bracket and wiring instructions. The forum helped with diagrams and experience from users on what worked best. So again I Thank You for your virtual guidance. I plan on checking my valves this winter. I already have printed out the 4 pages of instructions. Thank You but not because I've completed it yet. But because you collectively have given me the confidence with your past knowledge and guidence that I can do this myself with this virtual support teams help. Thank You once again.

Thinking about buying a Venture...Question.
aharbi replied to DANGEROUSDANA's topic in Watering Hole
It all depends on the rider. But I would say the wing would out handle a venture in a spirited ride in the twisties. I drag pegs on the venture riding the same roads that I don't drag pegs with my other bikes. -
Agree - however, cable pull clutch and no ABS.

hummm... Obama comes to mind

The Star-branded iPod touch only comes on the S model Venture. Well gee that's a deal breaker! and I was gonna trade my 2004 for an updated new and improved 2012. Oh well, guess I'll drive my outdated Venture for another year

I'm saddened to hear this. My prayers to you and your family. I also noticed this post on the Adventure Riders site. Her husband is calling for all available riders to attend her last ride.

South of Harrison is Jasper. Ride the roads there. Eat at the Cliff House Inn the views are fantastic and food isn't bad either. Order the Harrison Motorcycle Guide riding the Ozarks. The AR mortocycle guide isn't bad either but the Harrison guide is specific to the area you will be in. We rode 2,500 miles of the Ozarks in April, stayed in Harrison. Rode every ride in the guide, not a bad ride among any of them. Maybe not the prettiest riding I've done (8 out of 10) but without a doubt the best motorcycle riding I've done. The roads are awesome. One thing to note. GPS reception is very poor in some areas be sure to bring detailed paper maps. Or have trip-strips as a back up. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk100/aharbi/2011%20April%20Ozark%20Ride/ArkPanorama25.jpg

They can try but won't get far. This is TEXAS we are allowed to use deadly force day or night to protect our property burnt or not. Posted signs by the home owners You Steal - We kill I heard one report where "scavengers" were sent on their way under gun fire, don't think they'll be back.

Wish I could join you. We vacation in a little town just north of there. My great grand parents are buried in Manistee. Beautiful country - ride M22.

The Bastrop fire is now 50% contained. Burned 1,486 homes. Used 149 fire apparatus, 47 bulldozers, 10 tankers, 4 helicopters, 2 airplanes, 1,200 fire personnel. It's heart warming to see the donations pouring in from around the state. Donations of everything imaginable, from food and drink for the fire fighters on the fire line to "sifter boxes" used by the home owners to sift through the ashes of their homes in hopes of finding any valuables. I love this state, I love it's people.
-
No containment in sight. Wild Fires consumed another 100 homes today, over 500 so far. Now approaching 50,000 acres. Schools closed as they are housing evacuees. US Forest Fire Service assisting. Several lakes closed to public for aircraft to draft water to fight fires. Urgent need for cattle trailers to evacuate livestock.
-
There are 63 wild fires burning covering 32,936 acres. Closest was 1 1/2 miles from us but was contained last night after burning several more homes. It's hard running thru the house deciding what to take, jewelery? pictures? papers? The major Bastrop County Complex fire has destroyed more than 20,000 acres, and is zero percent contained. Lost another 100 homes (400+ in all so far) last night. Estimated to be 20 miles long. about 30 miles from us and burning to the south-southwest. 70,000 evacuated.
-
Zero percent contained. Power companies shutting off power as to not endanger the evacuees from driving over downed lines. Just had two fire retardent air drops. Stable lost 30 horses. 30 mph winds are driving 50 foot flames. This is not good.
-
14,000 acres burning in/around Austin, zero percent contained. Lost 300 homes with 100 more in imminent damger. All fire personell within 200 miles to report. National guard has been activated. I can smell smoke in the air and see the glow in the sky from my front yard. Worried - hell yes!
