  1. Congrats!!
  2. Congrats! For the antennae, you may want to take a look at http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24775&highlight=antenna+firefly lots of good info in here and the antennae themselves run somehwere between 10-20 bucks! Or you could put up a post to see if someone has replaced theirs would be wiling to give/sell it to you...
  3. This is a great shot!
  4. gpscity and ram-mount's websites both have a model fitment guide. You put in brand and model of GPS and it kicks back which holder you need. Then you can select the one for the size of bars that you have for your bike. Although someone will probably have that info on hand and can chime in too...
  5. +1 to that. Something similar happend to my dad a few years ago. He was contracted to do a particular project in 3 year and was allowed ~10M dollars for the project. Well, long story 14 months and ~2.5M dollars later he had completely finished the project as well as going above and beyond in a few areas as he found would make the company (on a world-wide) scale run smoother in his particular field. Well, the company (Fiat, after they bought out Case, International Harvestor, New Holland and a few other subsideraries of CaseIH - which was part of the global initiative he was working on) decided that since he had fulfilled his contractual obligation the company no longer needed his position and did not need him for the next project that he laid the groundwork for since he had it all planned out anyways(which is how the company got out of the contract with him). So, at any rate, you did what you felt what was right and have now been given the opportunity to find a new place that may appreciate your work and abilities better than your last. Good luck friend!
  6. If you are planning on paying someone to do it anyways this is wise. It'll probably end up being cheaper for the materials that way anyway. But even if it ends up being more expensive for the materials, you'll be guaranteed that the painter will know and be comfortable with the materials and you won't have to worry about that aspect of the job.
  7. +1 to this Also, if he works at a body shop, he may have access to the paints anyways and you may be able to work something out with the owner to just use what they've got. I used a DuPont system and there were two levels of paint. A single stage polyeurethane paint and Base/Clear. The base/clear used less color but in either case to paint all of your parts and such I would estimate only needing 4-8oz of each color. Again, different paint systems mix differently and you ought to talk to the painter about it.
  8. This is pretty cool! I have been considering getting something like this since as of recently it seems drivers are more and more stupid I figured that if I ended up in some incident the video could do the talking for me. Nice blue sky for you that day; looks like you've got a nice ride to work too
  9. They would not be very attractive but I have seen 'universal fit' ones at a local bike shop... They mostly sell Hyosong and Husqvarna(I think I spelled those wrong) dirt bikes and such; but they clip right on the bars and extend out... I'll see if I can find what I'm talking about and send you a link.
  10. So there really isn't a small rooster that controls the fuel flow???
  11. But, on those rockets they have those dinky sidestands that barely hold the bike up as is. A buddy of mine has an 07 CBR F4i and he is on his 3rd sidestand within the last year. They bend funny under normal use; and the replacements are even wussier than what came on th ebike new. Other factors include suspension on the trailer and trailer tires, etc. If you do not get a wheel chock, you don't have much of a choice. If you are careful and cinch the left side of the bike down tight, then strap the right side down to compress the suspesnion a little and hold the bike steady (ie. so that the bike sits on the sidestand and can still travel up and down (ie the suspension still does its thing)) you can do this with out damaging the sidestand - on bikes that don't have those tooth-pick side stands that do not allow any travel in any direction except folded, not folded and bent. A good sturdy wheel chock is by far the way to go though.
  12. +1 For BikerHiway I got my horn from them and a 32 LED taillamp (that plugged into the regular bulb socket) for a combined price cheaper than I could find anywhere else (and I had ~10 sources). Ontop of that their customer service was excellent. I won't go into the problem I had, as it was certainly an isolated incident; but they were kind, fair, and very helpful in resolving the issue. I even received a follow up call from them a few days later to make sure that the issue was resolved and that I was happy with the outcome. Here is a link to what I am talking about: Light: http://www.bikerhiway.com/led-tail-light-for-yamaha-road-star-and-vstar-p-176.html It looks like the price on the tail lamp went up a few bucks since when I got it (I think I paid 40 or 45 for it) Horn: 41.95 for the chromed one +shipping (The black one is only $36.00) http://www.bikerhiway.com/stebel-nautilus-compact-motorcycle-air-horn-chrome-p-807.html?zenid=bd5ae791756d1b6b5edb07380d9499a4 If I had the cash, I'd definitely go with the Rivco horn. http://www.bikerhiway.com/motorcycle-horns-motorcycle-air-horns-c-244_29_247.html
  13. -- Darn mental images; what the H.
  14. Yup... Got to pick and choose when to just deal with their idiocy and when to blast 'em. By the way, Someone that usually gets the crap scared out of them is my passenger The more I use mine the more I think about how I'd like to make it even louder; or get one with a lower tone, or one that throws large rocks through the windows of my targets...
  15. I believe that B.C.'s insurance is either government run or goverment owned... Some fashion that makes it non-private which obviously does not allow for competition and market forces to drive prices...
  16. As long as the antenna wires run to the appropriate units, no, it does not matter. The antenna with the black deal in the middle needs to go to the CB box under the trunk and the AM/FM antenna (without the black deal in the middle) should have a wire that runs up front to the radio amplifier box.
  17. Oh, holy crap I'm an idiot... I'm really sorry about that Smely, I somehow managed to misread the names. I'll go ahead and send you a PM.
  18. Okay... Well I'm glad I asked. I was thinking about this yesterday when I filled up. After I got done filling up I slapped my forehead and decided that was a silly thing to do if I wanted to test my fuel light... Thanks for the input.
  19. All of 'em eh? I know the check engine light comes on, [and the fuel light]. Then the oil pressure and temperature lights come on when you crank the motor... Maybe I've got more problems than I had thought... (I'm pretty sure the turn signals, high beam indicator, O/D and N light are not supposed to come on when you turn the key on but if they are I've got some issues to work out). Thanks!
  20. There are times for me on long hauls that I like to keep my stopping to a minimum but still enjoy the ride. I have a 3L Camelbak that I wear for myself. For a while I was driving 700 miles a week (350 miles out Monday morning, then Thursday morning I'd make the haul back) to go between the 2 full time jobs I was working. I rode the bike for economic reasons as well as enjoyment but I needed to make that trip in no more than 6 hours to be on time so I couldn't afford to stop and smell the roses more than necessary. Now, when I take a leisurely ride and my girlfriend comes along unless she has something to drink while we ride, we end up 'needing' to stop quite often. It is hard enough to get her to WANT to come take a ride with me, anything I can do to help make her ride more comfortable and still be able to put a few miles on is a definite plus in my book. Besides, when she is happy it makes my life A LOT easier... Especially when the bike is involved. Just throwing my ).02 response in there, I realize that you were just but I just wanted to throw that out there...
  21. Pinwall Cycle parts is a good place if you really want to pay for parts. You have a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty on your bike. If it is an 08 you still have this warranty so you may be able to get it fixed by the dealer under warranty, unless they can tell that you opened up the controller then you may be in trouble... The handlebar mounted controller is ~600 OEM and the radio main amplifier itself is 12-1400 OEM. Pinwall has the handlebar mounted controls for around $200. I may have a functioning one available that I would be happy to sell you if the other member that I has already talked to me about it decides that he does not want it. Did you take apart the front fairing and check the connections there? Good luck.
  22. Thanks for the input. I presume that it is supposed to, but just wanted to make sure before I start taking stuff apart or spending money to get it functioning properly. Although there is an 09 RSV that does not and an 03 RSV that does not so this really is not conclusive. Bill: thanks
  23. Get on the expressway, tune to a channel with someone on it (I use 19) and politely ask for a radio check.
  24. Holy smokes; that is a GREAT idea! Thanks!
