Got it down. Those of you coming up from the south; I don't know how you plan on coming up but if I'm on your way and you'd like a place to stay Friday, or Saturday you are welcome at my house. Also, it will be mid October in the panhandle so don't forget to pack a good coat! Jerry: If you think of anything you want any of us to bring, let us know

I'll take road snakes over the fricken 'chip seal' which where I live is equivalent to literally dumping gravel on the paved road during the summer months and let the cars mat it down... But, on topic; I do not know of anyone lobbying for these to be banned as like loehring said, it is an extremely cheap and effective way to deal with the cracks in the road (that actually help avoid creating a pothole problem - which I think we all can agree is much worse than the road snakes). I do remember the first time I hit a road snake on a hot summer day... I was gettin on the expressway, really pleased with the speed of which I was clearing the ramp... Saw that bad boy run diagonally across the way I was headed so i was going to hit it at around a 20 deg angle. I stayed upright, but the front end slid as I headed over [the snake]... Lets just say that one puckered me up! That was the first time I'd ever felt the front end feel like it was going to slide out from under me (granted it only lasted for a fraction of a second)... Now I know that people weren't kidding about looking out for those dumb things.

+1 for the stock pillow tops and everyone's rumpus being a wee bit different. In 14 days August I rode ~4500 miles Riding every day; some were real short and some were longer (some days were 600-700 while some were just puttering around ~50 max). My last 4 days were ~500 miles each day and on the last day I really started to feel my tailbone. (But, no pun intended; I slipped and bounced down a few stairs on my rumpus which I think contributed to the tailbone issue). Your seat obviously is not doing what you want it to do; lots of good advice here and definitely talk to Rick Butler at some point and he can probably provide some good direction. Good luck!

I no longer need a carb tune and I'm pretty much set on all of my other maintenance for now... I think; But I'd be game for a get together and to help out or whatever. So long as I am in town that is. I will be in San Marcos, TX 22 to 24-Oct.

Dang, I guess I should have spoken up sooner... It is getting a little chilly down here and I now see what people are complaining about with the wind on the knees and all and I am quite a ways down the waiting list still... Soooo if Rod and the black pearl fall through... I'm interested...

TartonTerror (I think) was looking for some a while ago - as they would go with the fire theme of his bike. What do you want for them?

This is certainly the truth. There are some folks that moved in across the street from me that I met one day when I was pulling into my house (on the bike of course). I saw in the driveway was a street bob (I don't know what year) and a 2003 Road King. I parked and walked over there to introduce my self and welcome them to the neighborhood and all and we got talking about motorcycles... Come to find out his 03 RK he bought new (in 03) and has less than 1500 miles on it; but he said he 'rides a lot'. I was baffled. The bike was in great shape, at least visually. Anyways, one thing I have wondered and have tried to do (not very hard) is to find the sales statistics of different brands of motorcycles and figure out if maybe there are just that many more of a particular brand on the road so the probability of seeing one or some up in a trailer is just that much higher. I know there are some folks that also like to trailer on long trips so one can ride when they get there and the other can do their own thing or whatever. I had considered that this past summer. My girlfriend and I were going to head up to Michigan and I certainly did not want to be without the bike but she wanted to take a car. So my option was to either 1) talk her into riding with me 2) drive 2 vehicles 3) trailer the bike 4) I guess an option would have been to not take the bike, but that was not really considered. Fortunately, I talked her into option 1. Anyhoot, in all fairness I think that anyone has the right to spend their $$$ and ride (or not) their bikes as much or as little as they want. It is none of my business what someone else does or wants to do with their own property as long as it does not infringe on my ability to do what I want to do with mine.

For the antennae, you may want to take a look at http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24775&highlight=antenna+firefly lots of good info in here and the antennae themselves run somehwere between 10-20 bucks! Or you could put up a post to see if someone has replaced theirs would be wiling to give/sell it to you...

mounting a gps?
LilBeaver replied to Goofeychuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
gpscity and ram-mount's websites both have a model fitment guide. You put in brand and model of GPS and it kicks back which holder you need. Then you can select the one for the size of bars that you have for your bike. Although someone will probably have that info on hand and can chime in too... -
+1 to that. Something similar happend to my dad a few years ago. He was contracted to do a particular project in 3 year and was allowed ~10M dollars for the project. Well, long story 14 months and ~2.5M dollars later he had completely finished the project as well as going above and beyond in a few areas as he found would make the company (on a world-wide) scale run smoother in his particular field. Well, the company (Fiat, after they bought out Case, International Harvestor, New Holland and a few other subsideraries of CaseIH - which was part of the global initiative he was working on) decided that since he had fulfilled his contractual obligation the company no longer needed his position and did not need him for the next project that he laid the groundwork for since he had it all planned out anyways(which is how the company got out of the contract with him). So, at any rate, you did what you felt what was right and have now been given the opportunity to find a new place that may appreciate your work and abilities better than your last. Good luck friend!

If you are planning on paying someone to do it anyways this is wise. It'll probably end up being cheaper for the materials that way anyway. But even if it ends up being more expensive for the materials, you'll be guaranteed that the painter will know and be comfortable with the materials and you won't have to worry about that aspect of the job.

+1 to this Also, if he works at a body shop, he may have access to the paints anyways and you may be able to work something out with the owner to just use what they've got. I used a DuPont system and there were two levels of paint. A single stage polyeurethane paint and Base/Clear. The base/clear used less color but in either case to paint all of your parts and such I would estimate only needing 4-8oz of each color. Again, different paint systems mix differently and you ought to talk to the painter about it.

This is pretty cool! I have been considering getting something like this since as of recently it seems drivers are more and more stupid I figured that if I ended up in some incident the video could do the talking for me. Nice blue sky for you that day; looks like you've got a nice ride to work too

They would not be very attractive but I have seen 'universal fit' ones at a local bike shop... They mostly sell Hyosong and Husqvarna(I think I spelled those wrong) dirt bikes and such; but they clip right on the bars and extend out... I'll see if I can find what I'm talking about and send you a link.

Do you turn the fuel off...
LilBeaver replied to yamadawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So there really isn't a small rooster that controls the fuel flow??? -
But, on those rockets they have those dinky sidestands that barely hold the bike up as is. A buddy of mine has an 07 CBR F4i and he is on his 3rd sidestand within the last year. They bend funny under normal use; and the replacements are even wussier than what came on th ebike new. Other factors include suspension on the trailer and trailer tires, etc. If you do not get a wheel chock, you don't have much of a choice. If you are careful and cinch the left side of the bike down tight, then strap the right side down to compress the suspesnion a little and hold the bike steady (ie. so that the bike sits on the sidestand and can still travel up and down (ie the suspension still does its thing)) you can do this with out damaging the sidestand - on bikes that don't have those tooth-pick side stands that do not allow any travel in any direction except folded, not folded and bent. A good sturdy wheel chock is by far the way to go though.

+1 For BikerHiway I got my horn from them and a 32 LED taillamp (that plugged into the regular bulb socket) for a combined price cheaper than I could find anywhere else (and I had ~10 sources). Ontop of that their customer service was excellent. I won't go into the problem I had, as it was certainly an isolated incident; but they were kind, fair, and very helpful in resolving the issue. I even received a follow up call from them a few days later to make sure that the issue was resolved and that I was happy with the outcome. Here is a link to what I am talking about: Light: http://www.bikerhiway.com/led-tail-light-for-yamaha-road-star-and-vstar-p-176.html It looks like the price on the tail lamp went up a few bucks since when I got it (I think I paid 40 or 45 for it) Horn: 41.95 for the chromed one +shipping (The black one is only $36.00) http://www.bikerhiway.com/stebel-nautilus-compact-motorcycle-air-horn-chrome-p-807.html?zenid=bd5ae791756d1b6b5edb07380d9499a4 If I had the cash, I'd definitely go with the Rivco horn. http://www.bikerhiway.com/motorcycle-horns-motorcycle-air-horns-c-244_29_247.html

Yup... Got to pick and choose when to just deal with their idiocy and when to blast 'em. By the way, Someone that usually gets the crap scared out of them is my passenger The more I use mine the more I think about how I'd like to make it even louder; or get one with a lower tone, or one that throws large rocks through the windows of my targets...

I believe that B.C.'s insurance is either government run or goverment owned... Some fashion that makes it non-private which obviously does not allow for competition and market forces to drive prices...

As long as the antenna wires run to the appropriate units, no, it does not matter. The antenna with the black deal in the middle needs to go to the CB box under the trunk and the AM/FM antenna (without the black deal in the middle) should have a wire that runs up front to the radio amplifier box.

Oh, holy crap I'm an idiot... I'm really sorry about that Smely, I somehow managed to misread the names. I'll go ahead and send you a PM.
