  1. Geeze, I am glad that it isn't any worse for your friend (or guy #2). Sounds like it was pretty rough though... I know I would have never have expected something like that to happen... Have to keep that in mind now.... Hope they both have a full and speedy recovery.
  2. Good question. I had thought there was a copy or two going around Canada. I maybe a fellow Canadian will speak up. From what I have been hearing from a few of the people that have it right now is that many people on the list either have not been responding or have already seen it, so we might get through this quickly as is. When I assembled this latest list, I took what I thought KiteSquid had as the most complete list, and went through and just verified that people on the list were actually members, etc. So the list is still separated. Nevertheless if we don't hear from a canadian member about having a copy soon, I'll go through and try to find where you requested it and put you in the appropriate place. I think the original intent was to save on the 'international' shipping charges and whatnot. But I do not know for sure.
  3. If you would like to be added or removed from this list - let me know via posting to this thread and I will do my best to stay on top of it. Thank you KiteSquid for taking care of this up to this point, what a terrific idea!! I hope this can keep going and continue to help people out. KiteSquid's original text, with rules (slightly adjusted in a few places for clarity and redundancy): There is three copies of Ride Like a Pro (RLAP) IV or V DVD's that are free for anybody who wants it. FREE, but they have to agree NOT to copy it, and to pass it along for FREE to the next person after a short viewing session.... maybe two weeks???? The sender pays the postage, NOT the recipient, so no money changes hands, this I think will keep it all legal!! To request to be put on this list, please post to this thread and you will be put on in order posted on my next visit to the thread. Please DO NOT PM me as you will only be put on the list if you post to this thread... My apologies if you got missed, just let me know and I will put you in the appropriate place. PLEASE Remember to please post something you learned from the video. And again, I am not connected with RLAP, I just want my fellow bikers to have a long and healthy life on two wheels and anyway that we all can learn to ride safely is a good thing!!!!!! By the way, if you are tired of waiting, or would like to purchase your own copy please click HERE to order and be sure to ask for your Venture Rider Forum member discount. IIRC it saves you $5. BTW this DVD is worth every penny!!!!!!! The List: People who originally, freely gave away their copy of RLAP IV or V (Thanks a lot you guys!!) 4. I'm guessing don is right on this - the blank is probably just a hair off in length. I got 4 keys made at a local locksmith (cut from my original) for something like 5-7 bucks total. They were a perfect match without the fancy plastic head. I tried, wallmart, home-depot, lowes, ace and a local hardware store. None had the right blanks. My local dealer had a crazy price too. I had initially avoided the locksmith because I had assumed that they would be way more expensive than any of the aforementioned places. Turns out, it was a lot cheaper (and would have been cheaper overall if I had just gone there to begin with). Of course, ordering them online works too... Good luck.
  5. For what it is worth, that is EXACTLY how I interpreted your post...
  6. Thanks for the update. I adjusted the list on Page 18
  7. Thank you for getting this whole thing started. What a tremendous idea!! Naked Rider: Who did you send your copy to? Howdy all: I have gone through much of this thread, and assembled, from what I can tell anyways, a descent list (mainly from the recent posts). I have made two lists here. One with the people to receive the video and the second which contains names of people that I removed from the most recent list due to 'expired member' status or if it was indicated that you have viewed a copy or have a copy of the video. If you would like to be added or removed from this list - let me know via posting to this thread and I will try to stay on top of it. 8. To answer your question though: I picked up my 2nd gen ~32ish weeks ago (mid April). I have been out of town about 15 of them and I still have managed to have put around 10k miles on my venture so far. I usually take a couple hundred mile ride once every weekend that I am home, and I had a long trip over the summer.
  9. Almost, friesman probably has the fancy canadian package... I bet those come with block heaters
  10. Rick: Did you end up paying the dealer for any part of this? I thought I remember you talking about Yamaha splitting the cost with you or something goofy like that. If you shelled out anything at all for this 'non-service' they have them-selves in quite the pickle (not that saying they are going to do something then NOT doing it isn't bad enough... But with a monetary exchange they just earned themselves some additional fraud charges - presuming that the laws on that are similar to those in the states)...
  11. Haha - could you imagine a bunch of these mounted between the helmet locks under the trunk in place of the 15" solid bar many of us have there. Actually... Thinking about it, it probably wouldn't be all that difficult to fabricate something to install a few of these back there... hmmmm Man so much of ---> Too bad there isn't more coming in... Although being rated at 1 watt is pretty high for an LED array...
  12. Yee-haw. Good luck!!
  13. My pillowtop seat has a stud on it... When I ride anyway.
  14. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing this
  15. The exact reason above is why I'm on my 2nd gen more than my wing Some of us might not be
  16. I respect your views and opinions and now I will respectfully offer mine. While I am all for free speech and everything AND personal responsibility (ie. don't like it turn it off, don't look, etc. Part of which includes mutual respect of others). A forum rule/guideline of "lets keep it family friendly" hardly seems out of line. In my opinion, it is a matter of courtesy and respect of the collective membership that we all stick to the same guidelines. I do not think that any of the recent posts that were questionable were way out of line. Some were a little to rich for my taste, so I simply clicked the little back button and moved on to the next one. The fact that it is only once and a while that something goes up, I find very refreshing. I have been on some other forums/discussion boards that I no longer participate in (or even bother surfing to) because the content has degraded SO much that it was worthless to go back to since darn near every post was just total trash. Whether it was people bashing other people, groups, or discussions about topics that I felt should happen behind closed doors - if they happen at all. Quite frankly I find this group to be a terrific for anumber of reasons. Obviously there is a lot of great technical information, riding tips, riding information, and overall great people. But also, the fact that we seem to be able to have actual discussions covering a very wide variety of topics on here, I greatly enjoy. Many are bike related, and some are not. I certainly hope that we can continue to do so. Respectuflly, - Rick
  17. I have been driving myself for only ~10 years. I have been a passenger on a bike for longer than I can remember (I have the pictures to prove it - note that the older picture is NOT my first ride) Here are a few pictures... 2 are a few years apart My first bike was that 78 GS750E pictured. I acquired it from the original owner under the condition that I do not sell it to anyone but back to the original owner. It was my late uncle's and my Aunt sold her bike instead of his. He bought it new in the fall of 1977 (she bought a honda 750-four (I'm pretty sure it was a 750-four, new at the same time). He put about 5k miles on it than contracted a terminal illness that did not allow him to ride anymore. I acquired it, restored it (the little restoration needed) and have put 10k miles on it (most occurred in the first 2 years of ownership). Lots of dates and good memories involve this bike . The 82 GL1100 Pictured was purchased by my Grandfather in 1983. My grandfather had some medical problems and can barely walk, needless to say he cannot drive anymore. The bike sat in his garage for a few years and upon me putting a significant number of miles on my 750 he offered me the opportunity to ride the GL110 provided 1) I got it running again (carb clean and some top-end work - all from sitting and getting gummed up), 2) I don't sell it, 3) I treat it well. I started riding that bike when it had ~43k miles on it. Just a few short years ago, now it is pushing 60k and still running strong. I have had a few other bikes, but these 2 will always have a special place for me. Now, if you have made it here, you probably know more than you ever cared to know about my riding history... Here is a related thread that some may find interesting too [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29320]First motorcycle - VentureRider.Org[/ame]
  18. Melatonin is 'all natural' because it induced the production of serotonin. The prescription deals that are not considered 'all natural' pretty much do the same thing. Also, make sure that you take a good look at your eating habits. Having a well and balanced nutritional habits work wonders on fixing the body's quirky behavior.
  19. Unless you take and pass an approved MSF course (in Illinois) and have explicit written permission from a parent or legal guardian.
  20. Happy Veterans day; Thanks for all you have done, are doing and will be doing (for those of you that are still serving). Gdspeed. :325:
  21. I'm confused, , why you can't get the wife to talk to you anymore? Dan: In all seriousness, if you do not want to resort to drugs of some sort then the best thing you can do, from a psychological standpoint, is find a way to get your self to relax. Now, I know that is much easier said than done for most people, especially if you are getting frustrated because you cannot get to sleep. There are various mental exercises you can do for this, or things you can physically do to get your mind off of things. Your environment may have an awful lot to do with it too. Some environmental items to check are: 1) Make sure your sleeping quarters are as dark and quiet as possible (Ear plugs and those goofy eye covers some people wear on airplanes could be in order) 2) If you have an alarm clock that stares you in the face, move it so you cannot see it from where you lay trying to get to sleep (even the light from the clock is enough to be distracting to the brain). From a behavioral standpoint, depending on how long this has been going on, you may have conditioned yourself out of being able to go back to sleep right away. I will spare you the bahavioral theory, unless you really want to know. Summary of the theory is that you may have basically trained your self to stay awake at those times. There are a few easy things to try to break this 'non-sleep' cycle you've gotten yourself into. 1) If this has been going onFrom here on out try to mix up your going to bed routine or the 'getting back to sleep' routine. Something as simple as changing the order of which you brush your teeth and take a leak or take a shower or whatever may be enough to do it. If you usually have some sort of snack before you go to bed, try eating it an hour or two ealier than you usually do then do not have anything to eat or drink after that. I think you may get the picture. Basically - do whatever you can to change your routine. For your waking back up and not being able to get back to sleep, you need to do the same thing; change the routine of which you have gotten yourself into when you wake up in the middle of the night 2) If you cannot fall asleep (once you've woken back up) within 20 minutes or so, GET UP and go read a book, play cards, clean your ears, watch tv, listen to some music - do something that is relatively simple and easy on the mind that allows you to not think about how much you would rather be sleeping. It is important that whichever activity you choose is one that does not require much thought to do. For example, if you choose to play cards, make it a simple game that requires little to no thoght, strategy or planning. This causes your mind to focus on the game without 'working' too hard. Then when you start getting tired, STOP what you are doing and go back to bed. 3) Something that also ought to help is ensuring that you get to bed around the same time every night and trying to get up around the same time every morning. Establishing a consistent sleep cycle or rythem is important to make sure that the sleep you do get is good sleep. Try not to sleep in to much in the morning. Establish a time to be up by, and then try to get up by that time. Oversleeping can disrupt your daily cycle and confuse the body as to when it should shut down. 4) Whatever you do, DO NOT nap during the day! Napping during the day is about the worst thing you can do to try to solve nightly sleep issues. I do not care how tired you are, if you can stay up and stay tired through the day then at night you ought to be able to rest well. I think I'll stop here. Of course none of this is gaurunteed to work, but they are definite alternatives to drugs. By the way, I have a degree in Psychology (emphasis was in behavioral psychology). Hope this helps, or at least gives you some ideas. By the way, physiologically speaking, if you have not had some sort of head trauma or have not had this problem before your brain is probably producing the seratonin it needs in order to put you to sleep so while drugs that indcue the production (or overproduction) of seritonin to help put you to sleep, are redundant and unecessary my opinion. But of course, if you want them, I am sure that someone would be happy to perscribe them... Insomnia stinks. Good luck buddy. Rick
  22. As Don said, you have to look for different varieites. They have all sorts of options: Drive Clean 5000, High-mileage, fully synthetic, Extended performance, racing, motorcycle oil, etc. I have found that most of the 'extended performance' ones have the 'energy conserving' thing on the back. It is hit or miss with many of the other varieties, but I am quite sure the fully synthetic 15W-50 does not have the energy conserving label on it. That is what I use in my wing. Here in Lubbock, some of the Wal-marts carry the motorcycle oil. Lucky for me, the one that I typically go to does .
  23. Hmmm... So I wonder where that leaves me
  24. HAHA! You don't make me feel old at all my friend
  25. That stinks man. I hope that ebay resolves it quickly or you end up getting them in the next couple days as promised. FedEX and/or UPS ground can take something like 5-10 business days, depending on where they are coming from so there is the chance that it is still in the mail and he is too much of a bum to just go look up the tracking information or whatever. Either way, to answer your question, I do not have any experience with that seller. Sorry. Good luck! (PS. I think I'll ask him some questions via e-bay about shipping times and whatnot, and see what kind of response I get from him)
