  6. Welcome! I would definitely suggest that you take some time to get used to the way it handles before you go and add risers or whatever. Also, if you haven't taken a look at the 'Ride Like A Pro' videos (or taken an MSF saftey course) to learn how to effectively use the combination of the friction zone (within the clutch) and rear brake for low speed maneuvering, you'll be in for a treat. It took me some time but I can u-turn my rsv on a 2-lane road all day long now (after some practicing in a clean parking lot with the proper technique). I was real concerned after my first ride about the 'top heavy' nature of the bike (just like almost everyone else in here... those that will admit it at least ). You have certainly experienced your fair share of bikes. The RSV has its big pros and cons, just like any other bike on the market but sounds like you are pretty happy already! Oh yea, what kind of tires do you have on it? I have heard that the stock bridgestones (I believe) are terrible for low speed handling. Anyhoo - glad you like your bike... By the way, it is sortof a rule here that if you get a new bike, or do something to it, we need to see pictures Keep the rubber down and shiny side up

  8. I don't think that I am old enough to view such things! Are you going to take the emblems off the tank as well? Are you painting it yourself or are you taking it somewhere? What color(s) are you going with? Looking forward to seeing it done

  10. I knew I forgot something. Yes, if the rear two are not getting hot then they are not firing properly. Seaking has some good info there. and yes, if it is the coils it should be covered under the warranty.
  11. A way to see if you are getting spark is to run the bike, and rev it to where it chugs a lot (if possible) then hit the shut of switch (or turn the key off) while it is chugging. Then pull the plugs and take a look. From how the plugs look and smell you ought to be able to draw some conclusions as to whether they are firing or not. Something else to try if you determine which is not firing (if that is the case) is to take apart the cap on the ignition wire (that you put over the spark plug) making sure to not loose any of the small pieces (the small metal plate, spring, or resistor) and check to see if you have any significant corrosion buildup on the spring. Then, when you reassemble, make sure the screw that holds that stuff in place is tight. On second thought, checking to make sure the cap screw is tight might be something to try to see if you notice any improvement before you take it apart (that way if tightening it up does fix it, you'll know what the problem was). Also, you did not say what the mileage on the bike is or (as cougar asked) if it sat for a while. When was the fuel filter changed last? (Have you ever changed the fuel filter?). (just thinking out-loud here for you). And, if you go through and decide it isn't the fuel, plugs are good (and gaped properly), maybe a visit to the dealer for some warranty diagnostic/repair work would be in order... Hopefully it is something simple like bad fuel - but at any-rate
  12. If you suspect bad fuel and have a gas can handy. I'd just drain the tank most of the way and go get some fresh stuff. No sense in potentially damaging something or dealing with a poorly running machine if it is just bad fuel. Draining the tank is really easy. Just go pick up a hose that will fit over the petcock (standard fuel line, I don't know the dimensions offhand) but for ~50 cents a foot or something, it is pretty cheap. Turn the petcock to the off position (run the bike for a few minutes first with it in the off position if you want to minimize spillage) then slide the hose that is there off, put your new hose on, then with the other end in the gas can turn the petcock to 'Reserve' or 'on' depending on how much you want to drain out. If it turns out to be something other than the fuel, you've got a can full of (probably) okay fuel ready to go.

I was thinking that you may want to go ahead and PM a few of the members that did their venture to one-up venture conversions as the direct communication may get you faster results than hoping that one of them happen to click on your thread. I guess your other option would be to try to track down the original owner, by chance maybe they hung on to the parts I wonder why they would have taken that off/out...
  14. Left hand flat tapping the top of your head/helmet is the hand signal that I have been told is convention for saying there is a cop ahead. Although the flashing of the lights is probably more common.
  15. You might want to give Pinwall a call - they don't post everything they have on e-bay. A few months ago I was following a few radios, radio controls and CBs on ebay (as I had to replace some parts). The CBs, from what I recall, were re-listed several times and never sold (on e-bay anyway). Hopefully one of the members on here that removed the trunk (and CB) from their bikes will be willing to make a deal with you... Good luck!
  16. In the last 6 years I have had 2 mil spec phones (Nextel rugged phones). My first one lasted just under 5 years and I replaced it because I was happy with the service and didn't want to spend 50 bucks on a new battery when I could get a new phone for that. If you can find an AT&T phone that has that rating, that would be a good way to go. That first phone has been abused. In the rain more times than I can count. Fell off my belt doing ~60 on the highway a couple of times, completely submerged in water 3 times (twice in a lake and once in a puddle). And lots of other stuff - but these were the worst. The only problems that I had with it were 1) the battery life was greatly diminished (but after 5 years of use, I was amazed it held any charge at all as most batteries start giving up sometime in the 1-2 year range) and 2) Toward the end of my usage of it, the contacts that the charger made contact with to charge the phone had to be tweaked so that the phone would charge (Motorola has fixed this issue with a better connector since then). I don't know how well these phones would handle text messaging or whatever, but they certainly pass my abuse tests. And for what it is worth, +1 to her financial stake in it = her taking better care of it. Good luck!
  17. Not to discourage you from doing business with Buckeye but if you are that deadset on buying it straight from a dealer then I would suggest you contact a few others. Not too long ago I called 4 or 5 dealers within a few hundred miles of my home and all but 1 quoted me prices that were much less than what Buckeye quoted you. Again, I have nothing against buckeye - I know they have done A LOT for various members here. But, it is your money
  18. Mine were missing too. I guessed that there were supposed to be bolts in there due to the flimsyness of the windshield without them. For a while, I had it zip-tied (mostly because I did not have an easy way to guess the bolt size). With the world of difference that made, I ended up taking a few measurements, then heading off to the hardware store and buying a variety of things I though were close. I suspect that may have something to do with why the plastic stuff inside the fairing is broken on so many of our bikes.
  19. Another thought is that the 'authorized repair' centers usually have a stock of used phones used for spare parts. Sometimes, if you talk to the right person, you can get one of those. It might not be the best phone in the world, but if it works and is free, it is better than nothing.   20. In USD That yamaha shock is a bit high from what I have found (as of two weeks ago). In USD Delieverd to the US, the best price I found was at PartShark.com for $438.16 + s&h (totaling $461.66). I have also found that the shock for the newer models are less expensive than the ones that are listed for 03 (I think) and earlier. We have some members in the Detroit area and I've got lots of family up there, so if you need help with the shipping just say so. Lots of folks do recommend the works performance shock though. I still have the OEM one in my bike, so that is all the help I can be. Good luck!

  22. WOW! The radio amp (inside fairing) from pinwall used run for about 300 alone The radio control runs for ~200 (used from pinwall) The fairings are freaking expensive - this could work out real well for someone!
  23. I stand corrected... Work is REALLY slow today, eh? That whole riding through that snow without leaving tire tracks is pretty slick too, I might add.
  24. Got mine today too. I was thinking about this and wondering if there would be a way to design one of these with a hinge or something to allow for accessing the 'nut'/bearing adjustment dealy without having to take everything apart... Now I just need to wait for the next time we have cruddy weather so I can properly torque this puppy Thanks again Gary!
