  1. Alllllright That is some GREAT news!! I hope you are having a great 'first' day at work
  2. Yup - what Eck said. However, there have been a handful of people that have had similar behaviors and the radio unit itself (main unit inside fairing) and/or the radio controller head (on handlebars) were the culprate as well. So, if you find that everything is nice, clean and tight inside and have repeated symptoms, get in to that dealer to get those parts replaced under warranty because they are NOT CHEAP. Also, when you get in their to check the connectors, it is a good idea to go ahead and spray some QD electrical cleaner (or something similar), disconnect and reconnect the connectors 5-10 times or so (to help clean off any corrosion/build up) then blow out with compressed air and apply a little dielectric grease. Some will say to use a lot of that stuff, but I would caution you to be a little conservative with the application of the grease. You want enough to keep moisture out but not so much that it completely fills the connection holes and oozes out the sides since the dielectric grease itself is, effectively, an insulator you can actually limit your connectivity if you use too much of it. With that said, if you use too much (so that something doesn't work) you will not harm anything - all you need to do is open it back up and clean some of it out, no big deal. Hopefully you have a connector that just worked itself loose and you don't have to get anything replaced.
  3. One may want to carefully consider how they approach letting her know about this bounce... :duck:
  4. Done Wayde: You have not been passed up, it just has not made it to you yet. Getting closer though! If we could get the other two copies of RLAP moving again, we would certainly be making our way through this list much faster... I'll see if I cannot figure out where those are.
  5. The best thing to do is to make contact with the person and have them give you the name and address to send it to. If you go up to "community" -> "member list" --> "Full list" then in the upper right hand corner of the frame you can search for the screen-name of the next people on the list and then be able to send them a private message, e-mail or possibly get a phone number to give them a call.
  6. First of all, thank you KiteSquid for taking care of this up to this point, what a terrific idea!! There are three copies of Ride Like a Pro (RLAP) IV or V DVD's that are free for anybody who wants it for FREE so long as they agree to: 1) NOT copy it and 2) Pass it along for FREE to the next person after a short viewing session ie. 1-2 weeks. The sender pays the postage, NOT the recipient, so no money changes hands -- this ought to keep it legal NOTE: By requesting to be added to the list you are agreeing to the above simple rules. If you have a problem with this please do not request to be put on the list. To request to be added or removed to/from the list: Simply post in this thread that you would like to be added or removed and I will take care of it upon my next visit to the thread. Please DO NOT PM me as you will only be put on the list if you post to this thread. If you have requested to be added and you were not: Please forgive my mistake and simply let me know and I will add you to the list in the order of which the requests were put in. One of kitesquid's initial requests were to post something you learned from the video; let's try to keep doing that Some of Kitesquid's original text: "... I am not connected with RLAP, I just want my fellow bikers to have a long and healthy life on two wheels and anyway that we all can learn to ride safely is a good thing!!!!!! By the way, if you are tired of waiting, or would like to purchase your own copy please click HERE to order and be sure to ask for your Venture Rider Forum member discount. IIRC it saves you $5. BTW this DVD is worth every penny!!!!!!!..." The List: People who originally, freely gave away their copy of RLAP IV or V (Thanks a lot you guys!!): KiteSquid, Friesman1, jburrell :clap2: Currently HAS a copy: Bubber Sent to ???? ~ 6 months ago ?JMorrison ** Going to BurgyMon indianriverjack -- Belpre OH Canada camos – Saanichton, BC Semi-Retired - St. Catherines, Ontario Mover - Stratford, Ontario Ottawa () - Ottawa, Ontario Trader - North of Kingston, Ontario Australia United States krome rose ** Reported as no response BurgyMon ** Confirmation/Will Receive indianriverjack -- Belpre OH ** Contacting 1sttenor & Condor 1sttenor in Jeff City MO Condor in Carmichael Ca fixit3546 in Mechanicsburg (Bentonia) MS RandyR in Dahlonega GA GaThumper in Cleveland GA Blackjack in Snellville GA Black Owl in Apple Valley MN eusa1 in Dixon IL Larry M – Pullman WA MidlifeVenture – Twinsburg, OH 67mini67 – Cheney, WA Jemorrisonjr – New Berlin, WI Joer – Hudson Oaks, TX Hunter_1500 – Ferrisburgh, VT Little Bob – Steven’s Point, WI camos – Saanichton, BC Motorcycle Mike – Lawrenceville, GA midnite – Mc Kenzie, TN Donde - Rockport, TX nbowersock - North Ft. MOST IMPORTANTLY: 8) Ride safe **** Sample message to next person ****: Howdy: I have received a copy of "Ride Like a Pro" and you are the next on the list to receive it. (According to the list on: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24973&page=22 ) Please respond as to whether you are still interested in viewing the video or not. I will wait one week before I contact the next person on the list. If someone else commits to it before you do (after the 1 week time has expired) then you will not lose your place on the list, but may not get the video from me ~depending on whether I still have it or not. Just post in the thread (linked to above) that you would still like to view it and you can be next in line to get a copy. If you do want it, send me the address that you would like it sent to and I will send it first class mail after I am finished with it. Thanks a lot, - YOUR NAME HERE ****END sample message**** Thanks ya'll
  7. I have copied the updated list to this page. You are currently about half way down the list (after "midnite"). For ease, I have been contemplating starting a new thread, where I can maintain the list as the first post in the thread...
  8. Done
  9. Rick: This is one of the routes that I have nominally planned for my ride up (or down depending on how my timing works out) for this summer (for one of my work trips to Vancouver). I can let you know how it is after I do it if you'd like.

  11. Hmmmm. Now that's funny. Interestingly enough I get 50-60 mpg on my 78 GS750 - that's 750 ccs. My wing would do between 45 and 50 depending on weather and how I rode (1100 CC). Personally, I wouldn't go back to that shop...
  12. Wow, sounds pretty sweet! I am very interested to get, use, test, etc., but sadly ~160 is way out of my price range . Thanks for doing the legwork on this though!! Hopefully you can find enough folks to make it happen!
  13. Howdy: I presume by your comment that you have received the RLAP disc from Kbay. The next person on the list to be contacted is: indianriverjack The two after him are: - 1sttenor -- in Jeff City MO - Condor -- in Carmichael Ca The list can be found on the last page of this thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24973&page=21
  14. Buckle up - lots of opinions on this Actually tires are not as heated as a topic as oil is; It seems that the general consensus on tires is down to 3 or 4 brands/types (in no particular order) - Dunlop Elite 3 - Avon Venom-X - Michelin Commanders (- Various car tire options) I currently have a set of Avon Venoms, however, I will soon be going to a set of Dunlop E3s.
  15. Dave: Avon carries a 5 year warranty on their tires for sidewall cracking type issues. That is 5 years from the manufacture date on the tire. you can do some searching and see there are several of members here (myself included) that have gotten their replaced courtesy of Avon. Depending on the severity of the cracking it may not have been anything to worry about - but if you are not comfortable with it, get them replaced and have them cover it. As long as you didn't store the bike by fertilizers (or other chemicals that could potentially weaken the rubber), put tire dressings on them, or leave it out in the sun to bake etc there is no reason that there should be a lot of cracking on the tires. Here is a link to a thread that has some info and other links in it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35029 Good luck. Leadwolf: I have been watching the rear sidewalls on mine crack just like they did before too. I'm going to let it go a little more then go back. The dealer that has been working with offered (last time) to put a different tire on for me. I said no, and that I would give Avon another try since there are a lot of people that have good luck with them. I am about 3/4 of the way through the life of these puppies, and am not going to pursue a replacement based on the wear but I will be putting a set of E3s on before my next big trip (or when this cracking gets bad enough that I am no longer comfortable riding it). Good luck to you my friend. Hopefully we can get out of this bad batch of tires sometime
  16. Glad you made it home safe and as many others, I certainly wish I could have made that trip (or parts of it at least) with you. Sounds like you had a great ride!!
  17. You might find this thread of interest -- Lots of good stuff in here http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29320 My list is pretty short but here it is: 1978 Suzuki GS750E (I am the 2nd owner. 18. Zing. Rub it in why don't you! (oh wait, I've been riding too)
  19. Yes sir. I have the 32 LED one on my bike. I bought mine from bikerhiway: http://www.bikerhiway.com/led-tail-light-for-yamaha-road-star-and-vstar-p-176.html About 2 weeks after I received and installed my 32 LED board, I saw that the 100 LED one was announced. While the 32 LED one is PLENTY bright - even in the day time, I would have been tempted by the 100 LED one but the price on that is a little bit much for me to spend on a replacement light that I don't need. By the way, I believe I paid around 45 for my 32 LED one, although I do see that the price is up to ~53 or so. Anyways, highly visible during the day, and EXTREMELY visible at night. The only thing I would do differently, if I could go back, is I would have ordered one sooner (and for my other bikes too). My reason for buying it through them was that I also purchased a stebel air horn and the combination of the two, including shipping gave me the best price for both items. After dealing with them, I can say that their customer support was top notch. I ordered the plug and play adapter for the air horn (before I read the info on here) and even though it didn't work the way it was supposed to, I got a phone call from them (as per a request via e-mail) and we chatted about how to make it work. They were very apologetic, refunded my money (including shipping) and on top of that, took time to understand why their 'plug and play' adapter didn't function the way they had thought it would. I had a few other questions about some other items that I had ordered later, and they were very friendly and willing to take the time to help out. I would gladly do business with them again. (I am in no way, shape or form affiliated with them other than being a satisfied customer).
  20. :thumbsup2: Cool
  21. Wow. I am so sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers are sent for the family and friends.
  22. Wow. Nice work Nina :stickpoke:
  23. As some have pointed out, there seems to be some confusion on what you are looking for. if you want the actual center of gravity on the bike you'll need two measurements (and one assumption). If you assume that the bike is symmetric about the centerline (front to back) one can assume that the center of gravity is located on that centerline. For the other two dimensions (front to back and top to bottom) there are various methods you could use to measure out what you would need to actually compute it. For the front to back, there seems to be some ideas out there already. The easiest one (with household items - ie. bathroom scale and a length measuring device) would be to put the bike up on the center stand and measure the weight on the front tire when at rest. If you assume the book is nominally close to the actual total weight for the bike you have enough information to calculate the front to back center of gravity. For the location on the vertical plane, you will need a second measurement. My proposition, for the simplest approach would be to place a scale (of a suitable max weight) under the side stand and you will need to take a few measurements. 1) reading off of scale 2) distance from point of contact on 'foot' of center stand to the center line of the bike (if you were to draw a straight line down from the center of the bottom of the bike and intersect it with an imaginary line drawn from the center stand to the center-line of the bike -- ie all in the same plane). Now, vary the angle and repeat the measurements. From there it is just a little algebra to solve for what you are looking for. You said that you can do the calculation - but if you would like any clarification on this let me know. I'd be happy to help. Sidenote: Qualifications - I am a Ph. D. student in Physics (M.S. earned last year) and I teach college Physics. Happy measuring!!!
  24. If you are looking for a simple solid color to match your scoot, might I suggest trying a local body shop with some cash (ie. ~$20). Standard automotive paint will not do anything to harm the helmet. If you want to do it your self you could probably do spray paint and then wax it - that may provide a decent finish. It would be wise to investigate a plastic safe rattle can - if you are going to go that route, but it may not matter. My experience/expertise here is limited to automotive paints. Good luck!
