  1. Not as often as I replace my turn signal fluid.
  2. Dang, how did I miss THAT line in your post PM sent
  3. I'll be at a small establishment called "TRIUMF House". Sadly, the 2500 miles will be a bit of a haul for the festivities
  4. You said you don't have a motorcycle jack but do you have a regular floor jack? You might be able to rig something up to keep it stable enough to support the bike while you do this operation. Or another option would be to put a few eye bolts in the wall (make sure you get it in a stud!!!) in your garage and then use some straps to hold the bike up. Or secure it to a trailer hitch on the truck or something (just make sure no one drives off while you are still tied up!!! :yikes:)... On the other hand, if your dealer said they would just go ahead and do it for you - that would give you an excuse to get out on the bike and you wouldn't have to worry about stabilizing it while you do the install. Just double check it all - bolts and everything after the dealer gets through with it.
  5. The OEM pin stirpes (at least from what I have seen) are actually not even cleared over (which is a good thing, for paint adhesion reasons). A couple healthy coats of wax would give it that appearance though. I doubt they are painted on, but figured I'd ask - just in case anyone knew for sure. My local dealer has an 09 that has been on the floor for quite some time, so I doubt that I'll be seeing a 2010 anytime soon... I'm not crazy about flame jobs either. I do know that there are some folks that like that kind of thing, it just doesn't do anything for me.
  6. I'm seeing 15.28 on the shipping... Regardless, that is pretty crazy. I'm surprised there aren't big bold letters everywhere saying 'all sales final, customer assumes ALL risk and liability' blah blah blah...
  7. I'm curious if they have at least PAINTED those flames on, or if it is simply a sticker... Maybe Yamaha ended up with some leftover midnight parts and decided this would be a good way to dump them
  8. The only other thing that remains a real question - and to test it, we just need to find two people with a CB that are nearby. But the IC volume setting may or may not control the voice volume transmitted across the CB. This is something that I would like to know for sure as when I ride by myself with plans to have the CB on (listen to the truck traffic mostly) I like to turn the IC volume to 0 to avoid the necessary background noise from the intercom system - doing this, I have asked a few things on the radio and gotten no response, so I don't know if it is that people couldn't hear me because the transmit volume was turned down (c.f. IC volume) or if it was simply that no one chose to respond. With the IC volume up to where I normally keep it for intercom communications, I have gotten responses over the radio so I know that my deal works. ( I just haven't gotten a conclusive test after I started turning the IC to 0).
  9. Huh. Well gee whiz, that isn't too bad. The last time I had looked seriously was a few months ago and I wasn't finding anything less than $150. I guess I just didn't look in the right places. I'll stay tuned for the review!
  10. This might not be exactly it but freezy has linked to these a few times: http://cyclemaxohio.com/inc/sdetail/4231 If I could figure out a good place for it on my RSV I'd be all over it. can't beat it for 25 bucks either. I have been considering doing it in the plastic piece on top of the tank, but I haven't been able to find a second one (for a price I was willing to pay) so that I could cut a hole in the one I have - just in case it doesn't work or I screw it up. And I am not sure I want to cut into the inner fairing just yet... those are quite pricey.
  11. There is that "Donate" button up in the corner that gets a work out from time to time... I would like to see an eating contest though: Pondmonsters vs. Boomer Food: Cheesecake.
  12. Nothin' wrong with that! One of the perks of driving a 2-wheeler. I bet his does better on fuel than just about any one else's on here too!
  13. :happy65::happy65: Very nice. Looks like you've got all sorts of goodies on there already too! (bag rails, trunk rack, passing lamps, fender trim, etc.) I'm sure you'll be real happy with it too!! My Grandpa has been telling me for years (he turned 83 a few days ago), that he gets older but has yet to grow up. :thumbsup2:
  14. You have 2 options for the audio delivery: 1) Everything (Radio/CB) goes through the headsets 2) Everything (Radio/CB) goes through the bike's speakers You have only 1 choice for the intercom system - it is always routed to the headsets.
  15. I hear you! I was quite surprised to see that it was less than $5. I was expecting a minimum of ~$20 or so. I looked it up out of curiosity - for you and because I was ready for a chuckle (and to give me the 'ol, "Self, you better not loose those suckers" talk). HOPEFULLY there won't be any suprises in it for you...
  16. Congrats on passing! I've been through segment of police training for driving and advanced evasive maneuvering, etc etc. and have found that to be extraordinarily valuable in day to day driving (cage and bike). I haven't seen anything on driving an ambulance though - I would be interested to see what else is involved with that. All I know is what I have heard to talking to some EMTs or FF that I've worked with or around.
  17. As a Physicist, I found it very interesting. As mentioned earlier, not ground shattering research or anything, but a very interesting application of the concept. There are some practical issues that I am curious how they are going to deal with, but it sounds like they are on to something. I have looked up some more info on the research group and will be looking forward to their publications describing their research. Thanks for sharing it.
  18. Pinwall would be a place to check (but their shipping is usually pretty crazy for this couple dollar part). I wonder if you could find some conduit that would be of an acceptable diameter Or chrome pipe as Kreg suggested. $4.38 from partshark (Plus shipping of course) $4.74 From stadium Yamaha in Irving, TX
  19. I've read quite a bit of good stuff about these. The only major thing that was really holding me back was the price tag. The extra wiring I figured might be some work, but I figured I could handle it. I'd be interested to hear what you think of it after a few weeks of good use
  20. Hmm. I guess I'm a lucky one then. I have checked my speed and mileage against two different GPS units. I have found that my speedometer consistently reads within 1 or 2 units of accuracy. That is, I am always within 5 MPH of the indicated speed. NOTE that the resolution of the speedometer is only 2.5 MPH increments.
  21. Sorry. Somedays I read things but it just doesn't process. I read through his post then got to yours and my mind apparently was wandering somewhere else. )
  22. I hadn't thought of that. How about the exhaust fumes too?
  23. Yikes. Well I guess I'm okay with not spending the 20 bucks on one of those little lights (as I did question their reliability). One thing that I have seen, and really like (and I don't know if you have seen or not) but a few of our members here have put the standard analog gauge in the dash by one of the speakers. Giving it a 'built in' type look. Ponch has a gauge or two setup like this (in addition to what he has replaced the cassette deck with) and I thought it was pretty slick. I think all that is needed for the install is a hole saw (of the appropriate size) and probably some silicon sealant or a descent gasket. Just a thought.
  24. I have no input to answer your question, but if you want some help troubleshooting your 'messed up headset' situation - plenty of us on here can probably help you out with it. I will stay tuned though, as I am curious what else is available/will work and what folks have done as a replacement.
  25. The only problem I have found with trying to get replacement hardware from home-depot, lowes, ACE, Menards and a local hardware store is that for a few of these bolts, they need to be extra long or whatever and they are just not available through these stores. (can always cut to length, IF they are long enough to begin with). BUT I'll pay the premium on a couple of these suckers if I have to and get the rest elsewhere.
