While I understand and can appreciate not wanting to use any of the 'rid of malware' junk, and believe me I am the same way, there is a piece of software that seems to work quite well for me; that is the 'Microsoft security essentials' package. Surprisingly enough, it seems to work quite well. It definitely sounds like you've got some spyware or a virus of some sort. You do say that you have the macafee protection - I presume you have run that to no avail? If that is the case my suggestions are as follows: 1) Download a copy of the Microsoft security essentials [straight from Microsoft - it is a free download] (link here: http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ ). Install it and get the updates but don't run it quite yet. 2) Disconnect from the web/network 3) Clear ALL temporary internet files - can be done by opening firefox and -- click on 'tools' -->'clear recent history', --expand the 'details' section by clicking the down arror then check everything -- select 'time range to clear' = 'everything' 4) Run the 'disc clean-up utility' to remove any other temporary files on your computer - go to 'my computer' - right click on the 'Local disc', C drive - or whatever you have your main hard disc called - click on 'properties' - On the 'general' tab (the one with the pie chart) click on 'Disc cleanup' and follow the prompts there to dump the extra stuff 5) Now run the Microsoft security center scan - you can start with a quick scan if you'd like - that will take anywhere from 5-30 minutes, or just dive right into a full scan (which may take upwards of several hours - depending on computer/hard disc speed and how much junk you have on there) 6) Before you plug back into the router, you could do a hard reset on that, then reset the admin password and get it set back up like it was -- that way, if by chance something got dumped on that sucker that was goofing your system(s) up, it will be cleared. I trust the Microsoft security center over any of the 'ad-aware', 'spy-bot', etc products. When those first came out they were terrific, but it didn't take long for me to get really skeptical about what it was actually doing to my system. Hopefully you can continue to get help and resolve your issue before the 'Mac attack' or 'Linux attack' occurs.

I might sometime. But my current one has a lot of sentimental value. This is the man (my grandfather) responsible for my first ride and love of motorcycles... I was fortunate enough to take him for his first ride in 5 years due to his health condition (he had a stroke that left his entire left side paralyzed - head to tow). The bike in that photo is THE bike that he gave me my first ride on. Incidentally it was in the same house too. It took me (and my family) that 5 years to talk him into climbing on a bike again. He has been riding since the 30's and swore that he would never be on the back of a motorcycle. I had the honor of giving him the only ride he has ever had on the back of a bike. Summer of 2009 I gave him his second ride. I hope that I will have the pleasure of taking him out again if I cannot ride beside him.

He did okay. He seemed far to preoccupied reving his motor and jackrabbit starts everytime I stopped next to him. I don't play those kinds of games [especially] when I have a passenger - although it was quite tempting after the 5th or 6th time it happened. My solution was easy, I started pulling up next to her and stopping instead of him. It was much more pleasant that way. Good plan. I think when I get a little closer to graduating - say within 6 months or so and I start applying for jobs I'll contact HR, the recruiter or however the heck that works, and get the requirements as they stand at that point.

A different coolant leak

I wouldn't be too quick to rule out the leak being from the plug. Mine only leaked from the little plug behind the fin when it got cold (below 40). And it took many tries before I actually found conclusive evidence that it was coming from there. I too had a puddle that showed up in spirts around the side stand. For what it is worth I also have an 01. I noticed my coolant leak (from the little plugs behind the fins) around 27/Jan/2010 with ~ 38k miles. I used the dime trick to see if I could verify the source of the leak - and that seemed to stop the leakage for a few months. Early May and a few thousand miles later I did a coolant change/flush and replaced all 4 rubber plugs at the same time. All 4 of had severe cracking and what looked like dry-rot more than anything. As ruffy suggested, looking around for loose or split coolant hoses is certainly a good place to start. Pop the tank off and the few that are there are easy to see and easy to get to. I sure hope it is something simple for you. -
Thought about it but that is a life-long disqualification for the astronaut corps. Lasers are fun though.

For what it is worth, a bum regulator could very easily wipe out a battery. But so could an improperly functioning stator, and a number of other things. As you say, hopefully they've got it licked this time!

No kidding; I'd be all over that! Of course, if they lift the 20/20 uncorrected vision requirement for the astronaut corps, I'll send my app in. I'd better be done with my edu-ma-cation by the time they start the selection and training process for the next gen. shuttle.

Well, time for another update. Despite being extremely busy at work she pokes her head in my lab late last week and we chat a little bit. She hasn't had much of a chance to get out and ride her own bike so she wanted to know if I'd be up for a ride the following weekend. Warning me that it might be short since she is still getting used to riding out on the real road and whatnot. Of course my response is, sure - I'm always up for a ride. The following Monday, she stops me again and we chat a little bit; turns out her sister is going to be in town and they both want to go for a ride but her sister needs to ride with someone... No problem. So, yesterday rolls around and I head over there around noon or so. Get there, meet the sister, they are both excited and ready to go. We wait on the boyfriend for a little while to get his crap together - apparently he decided he wanted to come along at the last minute. Whatever. So, we ended up riding for a few hours (~200 miles). She did great and if she didn't have another friend coming over that evening, we would have ridden a lot more. The route that I had suggested gave us a few places for planned stops to make sure she was doing okay and if she was getting tired we could have straight-lined back to her place in much less time than we had taken to get there. As it turns out, that was necessary. The sister was toying with the idea of getting back into motorcycling (again, her last ride was with her dad on his goldwing). She had a blast, despite the craptastic roads around here. The riding was only okay yesterday. Temperature wise it was fine (upper 60 low 70s) but we had a 20-30 mph wind out of the SSW, which ended up being a cross wind for a while, then on the way back it was almost a straight on headwind. My friend did fantastic at staying in her lane and compensating for the wind. She was a little tired when we got back, but still felt reasonably comfortable on her bike. We stood around and chatted a bit afterwords and they invited me to stay for dinner. So, I did. Small BBQ, was quite tasty. Then, sadly I needed to get back to work. My pictures didn't come out very well but here are two that were the best. Sidenote: when riding she wears a crash jacket and a FF helmet. All in all it was a pretty good day and she is absolutely LOVING her bike. She also told me that she is really quite glad she didn't get a DS - she really likes her cruiser. I kept the 'I told you so' to myself, but I thought it. Until next time:

If anyone is close enough and hasn't seen one - it is definitely worth a watch. The next round of US sourced launches that will carry people won't be until 2018 at the earliest (probably more like 2020). If I was within 12 hours (one way), I'd be there for sure.

I know you said that you couldn't drill it out, BUT, did you try a FRESH left handed bit? I have had good luck with the left hand bits on 2 or 3 stuck bolts on mine. I believe they were all the silly allen head ones too. As for your light bar, maybe you could post a photo of where you are at - that might could be helpful for us to provide suggestions If the light bar bolts you are talking about are the ones that are in the middle of the mounting bracket, directly below the headlamp and above the front fender then a ball end hex is a way to do it. If you are referring to something else, then I have no idea what you are talking about - I'm sure someone else can chime in.

Regardless of what it is called, I'm pretty sure the consensus is the problem is NOT normal, it is specific to the 07's and it IS covered under your warranty. Along with the changing of the gasket I would make sure they change (flush would be better) oil and coolant (or do it your self) since it is quite likely that if the cover was loose enough to leak oil out, there is no guarantee that you don't have an internal leak as well.
