  1. I guess I got ripped then... Being that I am more than a few years away from that AARP status...
  2. Wow. That is one clean machine!
  3. I am a little bit curious about the idea of a law suit. I'm not looking to start anything with anyone on here but I have a few thoughts on this. We, as consumers, have chosen to purchase and ride these machines. I'll admit that the whine on my bike can be bad at times... Strangely enough it seems that somedays it is barely there and somedays it is unbearable. BUT, honestly what would be the goal of a law suit? This is a common issue with the bikes. It is not a safety concern. The only 'problem' that seems to be present with it is that it is an annoying noise. So, in this (relatively) free market, if a consumer is unhappy with a product and the manufacture takes a stance that the consumer is unhappy with then it seems to me that the consumer should opt for a different product. I think it would be different if the whine led to something failing, or if something failed and the company refused to fix it. But, I guess I just do not see where one could actually justify a law suit for this matter. UNLESS the suit was based on the unwillingness for Yamaha to uphold the warranty that they offer... I DO think it is incredibly silly of Yamaha to NOT address this issue as it seems that in 10 years they could have figured something out. Maybe the whine on my bike is real mild compared to some others in which I would be all over the dealer/Yamaha also to make it so that I could bear riding the bike OR hold my nose and replace the bike with a different make/model. I love my RSV and am watching the miles climb up and already looking at the newer models to see if there is a color scheme that I like better than what I have so when I hit an acceptable mileage to turn my bike over and replace it I can. Anyways, these are just my thoughts on this. I don't mean to hijack the thread but I think that we should not get too radical on the issue. Again, I'm not trying to get into anything with anyone or push any buttons, just throwing this out there to make sure we stay in check.
  4. Well, I am certainly interested as to what type of response, if any, you will get out of that! Well written and quite direct. Thanks for sharing... I'll be looking for the update
  5. And we will make SURE to NOT honor any warranty replacement of the clutch basket again...
  6. Question for you: How did you measure this and what did you measure. It is unclear from what you have indicated. There is some current draw (very small and I have not checked to see how small) that is always draining that maintains the radio pre-sets and the clock time. I would bet that it is on the order or miliamps though. Unfortunately there is likely a short to ground somewhere or two wires that have rubbed through the insulation and are shorting out... Some common places are the wires through the triple tree on the front end, under the driver's seat - make sure nothing is pinched, behind the license plate - make sure nothing is exposed that shouldn't be, and check the wires that run up under the tank - I found that one of the main harnesses on mine was routed improperly and vibration had worn through the tape that held the wires together. Hopefully someone else can chime in to give you better direction in terms of where to check. Good luck!
  7. Good thought Dave, but on the 2nd gen (for some reason) they decided not to include that feature. There has got to be a short somewhere...
  8. OOOoooo yea it is cooling off. The low tonight is 62!
  9. This is cool! Good for him!
  10. Geeze, what a rip. We've got to have someone close to a retail store...
  11. its the lazy-man's exercise bike!
  12. Sheesh! You Canadians pay more than I do... and according to the Insurance companies I am a 'high risk' driver. (No tickets or incidents... Just a male under 25)
  13. Brad: You may want to do a voltage test to make sure that you are only getting the ~13V you are supposed to be through your system. I had a nasty squeal through mine when my regulator stopped working. I realize this is a rare thing (and there are probably many other possible causes of this), but it is high impact if it goes out while you are riding as it can do serious damage to the other electrical components. As for the clicking (and other options to deal with the squeal) I'm sure someone else can chime in with good suggestions.
  14. I have seen this many times and I've been on the Yamaha site trying to figure it out and cannot seem to find it so I'm just going to ask. What is the difference between the "Royal Star Venture" and the "Royal Star Venture S"?
  15. Yup - it is a 5 amp fuse
  16. I am 5'8" (with my shoes on) but a 33" inseam have the stock sized tires (they are Avons, but stock size) and had similar feelings with the low speed handling the first few times I rode it (beyond my test ride that is). I will not restate anything that anyone has said here since good advice has been mentioned multiple times. What I do have to offer is that now that I have put some hours in the saddle, I have no problems handling this bike at low speeds solo or with a passenger. It took some time, but just making sure I used the things I learned when I was trained to ride helped a lot. One thing that stuck out was that you said you do okay when you are solo and have some difficulties when you are 2-up. You also mentioned that your wife DRIVES a bike sometimes. Something to try would be to talk with her and have her pay attention to what SHE does while you are driving and maneuvering. What may be happening (possibly without either one of you realizing it) is that since she has been driving, she may inadvertently be leaning or moving as SHE would when SHE is DRIVING while YOU are trying to do the maneuvering. This behavior may not have been so evident on your classic due to the size difference and especially the location of the center of gravity when loaded 2-up. What any passenger should do at low speeds is sit perfectly still. Like a sack of potatoes or a hunk of concrete that is stuck to the back seat. Stay in perfect line with the bike, no movement at all (not even head turning when going slow enough). Hope this helps give you some ideas at least. Good luck!
  17. Isn't that what the emergency disengage deal is for?
  18. Looks great! Makes me wish I had that kindof service when I bought mine Great lookin bike. Looks like ya'll sure made him feel welcome.
  19. Sweet! How did the beard go over?
  20. I just got in from a couple hour ride... NOW I have to do the stuff around the house that I should have been doing instead of riding...
  21. With as much as I would be interested in seeing what else they come up with, do hope that they hold on to the current 2nd gen design for a while... I sure like being able to get parts easily (for a reasonable price) and I am not done accessorizing yet... I chose the Venture over a Valkyrie Interstate for just a few reasons. One being the parts availability... Just my
  22. Geeze, I must be getting old or something ! Sorry about that... one of these days I will learn to read .
  23. I wouldn't worry about the age. Just keep an eye on them. If anything on them starts to go south, call Avon up (or send them an e-mail) and say you'd like them replaced under warranty and they will take care of you (may be prorated depending on the mileage). Enjoy!
  24. Are ya'll talking about the Standard from the H-D dealer, or the guy trying to sell the Royale with 200 miles on it?
