2006 midnight venture issues
LilBeaver replied to Mark1963's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
No problem. Where about are you in Michigan? We've got several members up there. (And I have a lot of family up there...) There is absolutely NO reason your stator should not be covered under your 5 year unlimited mileage warranty. Good luck! It is probably unlikely that a dealer will have one in stock, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!- 5 replies

Jerry: If you are going to make this and want to ride down there together let me know. It looks like I might be able to make this one too.

2006 midnight venture issues

Mark: Welcome to the site. If you have an 06 - you should still be under the 5 year warranty, contacting a trusted dealership may be in order. To answer your questions; yes some have had to replace their stator. And somewhere on this site, there is a service manual available for download. If you poke around a little bit you should be able to find plenty of information on the stator (replacing, etc.) and the service manual. You can verify the stator is the problem by checking the voltage at the battery while the bike is running, or by checking the stator resistance with the white, 3-plug wire harness that comes out of the stator. You can find that by taking off the two side panels and center panel as well as the coolant reservoir (it is almost dead center under the center panel below the battery box). The resistance should be between .279 and .341 ohms. The voltage measured should be between 13.5 and 14 volts. I'm sure others will jump in with their advice as well. Good luck! I believe you can use the 'search' tool on the forum if you join. - Rick M. Hope that helps.- 5 replies

I guess I am pretty lucky... My local dealership sells their tires slightly above their cost. Last time I was there ( I was giving a buddy a ride home - he was getting tires on his) I priced out a set of E3s for mine. Rear was $109 and the front was something like 70 or 80 bucks. On top of that they keep these ON HAND (they only have Dunlops on hand) and anything they don't have they can get next day. I just hope these folks don't change owners any time soon.

Actually someone had just mentioned this yesterday: [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40400]Avon Cobra mounted - VentureRider.Org[/ame] And a few others: [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35393]New frount corba radial - VentureRider.Org[/ame] [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24425]Front Radial - VentureRider.Org[/ame] For some of these you may want to try to contact these members directly to see if they ended up going through with it or not and what their thoughts are/were. I have no experience with radials on a bike. Good luck!

Terrific!

I called my local dealer - they have been pretty helpful with everything I have needed (not just with my RSV; I've dealt with them enough that 2 of the 3 service writers know me by name) and the service guy I talked to said that they are not supposed to release the tech bulletin's to the public BUT when he got some time later he would look it up and let me come in and take a look at it. If I can get a copy of it, I'll definitely let you know.

I went ahead and asked him for a picture of it too (about 45 minutes ago). I guess we'll see...

There is a chance that an owner at some point decided that they wanted that particular color scheme so they opted to switch it all out or get it painted... But I would lean towards wrecked/salvaged at some point. He does list the color as 'green' in the description area Is there some sort of delay with the questions being posted? I do not see my question posted on his thingy there.

Wow!! Looks like you hit some great roads - Glad you had a good trip!

BTW the VIN off of my bike throws up an error in that decoder too... But the VIN he claims is only different from mine in 2 places. The last 3 digits on his are "397" where mine are "400" and his 5th digit of "f" is different than mine as well.

Thinking about this they'd need to transfer the trunk, saddlebags, seat(s), fairing, and someone mentioned something about the anteenae... If some chop-shop got a good deal on a salvaged bike from auction, switching the body-parts really wouldn't be that difficult and could have been worth-while... If someone else doesn't ask about the vin plate I'll ask him in a little while...

Yea, I saw that too... Hmmm.

So I asked him: "Nice lookin' bike! 2 questions for you. 1) Are you the original owner? If not, do you know any of the history of the bike? 2) From the research I have been doing about these bikes it is my understanding that the 2001 were supposed to have the pillow-top seats; do you have the original seats still? Thanks a lot" His answer: "Hi, I am not the origional owner, I purchased this bike used from the dealership about 2 years ago. I have the pillow top seats back on it now. It is in very good condition. Thanks, Casey" (Copied and pasted) I would be interested to see if he would actually agree to someone coming to take a look at it...

Wish I had the money... But with my latest electrical fiasco my bike budget is drying up

I am having trouble finding information on these and I am curious. Are they halogens? Still spotlamps? Where did you find yours? Thanks

I think the standardization of this is a great thing especially for safety concerns. (But also for the annoyances/distractions of some folks 'music' etc.) I know for sure that in the state of Illinois anyway, a citation issued for excessive noise from modification of an exhaust system WILL hold in court just fine.

Is it just the CB or is it the radio too? Since you are under warranty I'd go back to the dealer and let them take care of it. Things to check would be the connections inside the fairing, the radio ground, and then all that is left is replacing the units themselves. Good luck! I am currently experiencing the same problem with my radio. I replaced the control on the handlebars and there was no change in behavior, so I've got a main control unit on order (I managed to find a remanufactured one).

Congrats! That's a good lookin' bike

When you get a chance - Unscew the housing to the lamp and pop the lamp out and take a look at it. You should be able to tell whether it is a sealed beam or not based on the wiring leading into the lamp itself. The non-sealed beam has a bulb that comes out of the housing (with the glass lens on it) as to where the 'sealed beam' the bulb is the whole thing... if that makes sense.

If you have the sealed beam ones; Wagner 4449 are 30W sealed beam lamps that are basically identical to what Yamaha sells as their lamps. These are spot lamps, not foglamps. I got mine for about $15 a piece from O'rileys autoparts. Tractor supply also carries them.

Motorkote comments and tracking??
LilBeaver replied to Judes Dude's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Some folks will probably say to not worry about it as any excess will probably come out of the breather tubes, BUT if it were me, personally I would go ahead and let some out via the drain plug (for ease) just to put it in spec. I would see no reason to risk damaging components by having too much oil in there... Just my As far as the filter being tight - I use a torque wrench and an oil-filter socket to put my filter on and when I have changed it it was difficult to get off... For me, I just have a hard time getting a good grip on the filter that allows me acceptable leverage. The first time I had changed my oil & filter, (the P.O. had it done by a dealer) and I ended up using a set of large arc-joint pliers to get a good grip on the filter, and even that was tough. I don't know if they didn't put oil on the O-ring or if if a gorilla put the filter on but yea, it was tight...
