Not at all. After your warning I was extremely careful in pulling the clamps off then shot a little lube (white lithium grease - to not damage the rubber) and a touch of compressed air between the hoses and the brass deal then eased them right off. After I got them off, I checked to make sure the brass was not loose at all and it seemed okay. I was thinking about picking up two caps to replace the ones that are on there because one has that 'old dried rubber' look to it, but it wasn't brittle at all (just as a precautionary measure).

If the dealer is unable to produce your parts and in the event that he files Chapter 7 Bankruptcy (which basically relieves him of any debts owed but screws himself over pretty good) and you suit is settled as a wash you ought to be able to file an insurance claim for your parts. Either under your bike or homeowners policy (you'll have to talk to your agent or consult your policy). For me, I know that I could file it under either but wouldn't hesitate to file it under the bike policy for ease. You will then be out your deductable but that is all. You may want to consider talking to your insurance agent before you saddle up with a lawyer as the insurance company may be willing to go ahead and sue for recovery of your stuff (so they don't have to be out the money for parts) but you never know. I too greatly admire your patience with this shop! Again good luck!

I didn't even pay that much for my 2nd gen... Including TTL and going to pick it up with an overnight in a hotel. I suppose if he leaves it up for long enough that eventually some sucker might come and give him near what he is asking...

I picked mine up at a truck trailer supply store for about 20 if memory serves me correctly... Although I do not have the turn signal functionality, when I get some time I think I'll wire that up; it is a great idea!

Very nice! Enjoy!

First of all ya'll aren't kidding about it being a straight forward process. It certainly helped that Brian pointed out the vacuum ports and adjustment screws (the screws of which would have tough to spot without knowing right where to look). Next, my #1 and #2 were within 2 mmHG of each other, which was acceptable (but I adjusted it anyways). #3 and #4 were off by about 6mmHG of each other. And #3 and #4 were significantly higher than #1 and #2. I apparently deleted my before picture but here is my after. I thought this bike had smooth acceleration before (there were a few rough spots, but it was much smoother than the V-twin I was on before). I took it for a spin after syncing them up and I am amazed at the difference. Maybe I am imagining things but not only does it seem smoother (which I am positive it has improved tremendously), around mid rev range it seems to have a little more umph than it did before (this may or may not be true but regardless I'm happy). Thanks again Brian (PM sent regarding returning your CarbTune)! - Rick M.

Hehe, yea - I got 4600 miles of uninterrupted enjoyable trip...

Don, Jerry, and Dave - Thanks for your offers. I met up with Brian (tx2sturgis) not too long ago and he is letting me borrow his Morgan CarbTune. Thanks again! And a special thanks to Brian for his generosity!!

Terrific! (PM sent) Thanks Brian. My schedule is pretty flexible so I'd be happy to ride up to Plainview anytime today or tomorrow. So whatever would be most convenient for you. My only restriction for today and tomorrow is that I've got a class from 9-10 tomorrow. Just let me know when and where would be good for you and what I ought to bring, if anything, and I'll be there. My number is in my profile if you would rather call than communicate through here, but it makes no difference to me. Thanks again! Rick M.

I knew it was a long shot, but no luck. There were 3 for sale here, called all three. No one had extra parts. Good luck, hopefully you can get lucky and find some on e-bay!

Put on the EBC pads sunday and they have been much quieter... a little squeal now but I don't have that gd awful grind. I'll squeeze some more of that grease on the back of the pad and clean the rotors again... Thanks for asking the question whistler, I thought it was just mine! Rick M.

Don: I was hoping to get this done soon, but I've been saying that for a few months now, so it is not that big of a deal. I really appreciate your willingness to give me a hand here but so far it looks like Jerry is a wee bit closer. If I don't get it done by November, I am going to try to make the get together in November, we could plan on doing it then, if that works for you and if I don't git-r-done sooner. Thanks again! Jerry: Thanks, you're a bit closer than Houston; I'll take you up on that if someone else doesn't chime in sooner. I'll be out of town from 25-Sept to 4-Oct, so it sounds like for us it would have to be after then. Touch base when you find some time. I'll make sure to update here if I get it done sooner. Thanks again both of you! - Rick M.

Don't bump it too hard, you'll need more than just the right one [sorry I cannot help you with the parts - I'm sure someone will chime in that can ] Actually, now that I think about it, there are a few 1st gens for sale around me, I'll give them a call and see if they have any extra parts... I'll let you know

Not to draw this out any longer and I am terribly sorry for your troubles but +1 to the Civil suit. This probably wouldn't even make it to mediation... If it did I seriously doubt you'd end up going to court. A lawyer will cost a few bucks, BUT you can always ask for the recovery costs of your attorny and court costs (if you go to court) to be part of your suit. Don't forget about the year that you had to go without the bike... all that wasted gas and the pain and suffering... (Just, sortof kidding about that) But there is NO doubt you have a good civil case here, especially if you have documentation of what has been going on. 2ndly, most shops are insured for stuff like this. The other route you could go is look into theft charges... (I don't know if you looked into that at all, sorry if someone has suggested it). It would be a cut and dry case. 3rd, call your local news channel... Again, sorry to hear this, it is truly a shame

I have yet to order a CarbTune and I just flat out have not had the time to make my own yet and I still need a tachometer but I've been reading a lot lately about the signs that lead one to believe that it is time to do a carb sync and I feel that my bike is due... So here it is; Is there someone in or near west Texas that has a equipment, know-how, time, and patience to meet up with me and give me a hand syncing my carbs? I have an 01 RSV and am in Lubbock, Texas. I'll certainly be happy to meet you wherever and at your convenience of course. Thanks in advance! - Rick M.

Anyone purchased from Harber's Cycle Parts recently?
LilBeaver replied to Jdix's topic in Watering Hole
Since PayPal said it is too late, I'd go ahead and contact your CC company and let them take care of it. CC companies offer protection against that kind of jazz too. -

I have never dealt with them inparticular but If I were you at this point I would go ahead and file the dispute with PayPal too, not just ebay. Here is some information: https://www.paypal.com/helpcenter/main.jsp;jsessionid=KnTKx2JZvhYTVFzPLLzJbsYjK2zGjV5vNG8CvYLnymSJyJ0T5ghp!-973790507?locale=en_US&_dyncharset=UTF-8&countrycode=US&cmd=_help&serverInstance=9006&t=solutionTab&ft=browseTab&ps=solutionPanels&solutionTopic=800060&solutionId=12454&isSrch=Yes If they don't help, I'd go to the credit card company you used to fund the PayPal transaction (if you used a credit card). I do not have experience filing claims with PayPal but I have done it with my credit card. My CC company was very quick at getting the issues resolved. Also, make sure you have as much information as you can regarding your situation. ie. Receipt for transaction, item numbers, dates and times of communications AND the communication itself (if you have copies of the e-mails and transcripts of what you left in a message to them). Good luck friend. -
Very Nice! I'm guessing 1976. P.S. I hope it is going to be more than a cat scratcher!

I would paint the bags to match the bike... Mostly because it would be less work. Also, it would keep it original (presuming the bike has not been painted before). When I look at used vehicles one thing I look for is to see if I can tel whether it has been painted before or not. This is because painting a vehicle (or parts of a vehicle) is a possible indicator that there was a problem at some point. (There are some that get painted just so they look better or because the owner did not like the color or whatever, but you never know.) This can be a moot point though for a few reasons. 1) If you plan on keeping your bike for a while AND you want the bike to match the saddlebags because you like it better then go for it. 2) If you do a nice job (or whoever paints it) then one may not be able to tell it has been painted outside of the factory (other than the colors not matching what was offered OEM that particular year) 3) not everyone shares the same concern as I do about a repainted vehicle... Bottom line, It is your bike, pick which color you like the best and go for it! -
I've been seeing a lot of these lately... Wish I had a few extra bucks laying around; I love the color scheme of my bike BUT I'd be willing to give that up for a new (0 miles) bike and a full 5 year warranty... By the way: So do you know anything else about the California edition of the 2010? or what else is to come with the RSV?

Sounds like you'll be in good hands! Good luck!!

I actually tried that this morning. The sounds mine make are inconsistent. Sometimes they are perfectly quiet and sometimes it sounds like a metal-on-metal scrape/squeal or something... I don't know how else to describe it. Mine have been this way since a few hundred miles after I got it. I have about 75% pad left on all 4 in front. I wanted to try rouging it up (since I know that glazing can cause some squeal) and no dice. Same deal. The only thing I have not done (not including changing the pads all together) is replaced the spring (that run 20 bucks a piece) that keep the brake pad tight. I have adjusted it so that it holds the pad tight, like it is supposed to, but I have not replaced it (and the book says to replace those with every pad change). I am pretty sure what I have on there right now (the fronts any ways) are the yamaha metallic pads. I'm fed up with this (it is embarrassing) so tomorrow morning I'm going to replace them with the EBC organic (not the HH sintered ones, just the organic). If it makes a difference I'll let ya'll know...
