I do not know how some of those magazines come up with those ratings anyways... Although there is one off of Indiana, closer to the mall that I suspect is better. I have found that the food and service on the west side of town tends to be a bit better... But yea, they are a little pricey but I am pretty sure that you will not be disappointed at TLC. No problem - I'm glad you had a great trip! We'll meet up one of these days - I'll be here for a few more years.

How do you guys do it????
LilBeaver replied to badluck73's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
My last long trip (~4600 miles) I averaged 42 mpg (if I exclude my last 2 days where I had 30-40 mph headwinds). I was fully loaded and 2-up for all of those miles. I am a rather conservative rider and for the majority of that trip I had the needle pinned right between 70 and 75. Randy - if you are getting ~42, I wouldn't mess with your carbs badluck73 - if you are only getting 30 and you are taking it easy on your bike (no hard accels, shift at the manual suggested shift point... well, maybe over those a bit ) and you have made a point to take an average for your fuel economy over several tanks where you have not gone over say 70 (along with the above mentioned driving behavior) then I would suggest maybe taking a look at your carb float settings. V7Goose has a very nice write up on how to do this in the tech section. If I recall correctly he has stated that he has yet to see a bike that has the floats set properly from the factory (which obviously impacts fuel economy tremendously). Good luck! EDIT: This trip I had run with an XXL Clearview; before that, comparable mileage with an OEM shield (that was shattered by a bird). -
Terrific! Sounds like you had a great ride And Orlandos, really? Yikes.. Texas Land and Cattle is the way to go here in town... Glad you had a great trip

Haha, Rick you will like it for sure! I too used mine yesterday to let someone know that I was NOT willing to share my lane...

17th confirmed bird strike of the year
LilBeaver replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've only been riding for about 10 years but I've had 2 bird hits already. One was a few years back, I was on my GS750 - thank gd I was only doing 30-35 mph. I took a small bird right in the chest. It nearly knocked me off the bike and it sure as hell knocked the wind out of me. Second one was a few weeks ago right after I put a practically new windshield on. Fortunately it hit the shield and not me. I would die a happy man if I never experienced that again. -

I have the same concerns about E3s and Venoms... I've put almost 9,000 miles on my avons since may and have ridden through some real nasty rain. Only once have I felt a little slippage - but it was during a lane change not long after it started raining (so I suspect I got into some road grime/oil). I feel I should add that when I ride in the rain I am EXTREEMLY conservative in my lean angle. I put many many miles on the Elete 2s that I had on my wing and I loved the way those handled in rain/snow/trails (yes the trails) so far my confidence is growing in the tred pattern of the venoms/E3s. I cannot comment on mileage on the Venoms I have as have not replaced a set due to wear yet. I'm sure you won't be dissapointed if you go with either E3s or the Venoms.

+1 to this. Note these are NOT the HH sintered ones. About the same price at my local stealer too, so I get mine there.

I don't know if anyone else saw this or not but this ought to stress the importance of safe riding in a group (ie staggering) and maintaining a proper following distance... I think its amazing that more were not critically injured! http://www.komonews.com/news/local/59860797.html Hope they all come out okay.

A few days ago I put on the organic pads which reduced the noise from the front by at least 75% but there was still a little. As per other suggestions I went out and picked up some brake grease (syl-gel) and put it on the backs of all of the brake pads. I rode a few hundred miles today and listened very carefully. Not once did they even hint at squealing. Hopefully it'll stay that way for a while.

I rode in to work then left the office a little early to do some work on the observatory that I help run... Getting it ready to have a few astronomy labs out there this semester. Then what is usually a 10 mile ride home from the observatory took me about 1.5 hours... I took the sort-of scenic route It certainly was not a day of fishing...

It has been too long. Corn Bread and chili for me tonight

Just remember the job isn't done right unless you have extra pieces in the end! Looks great!

Ah, the problems of being good and efficient at what you do! Don't say this too loud...

+1 To this except from a different prospective... A few weeks ago I was able to treat my parents to a mini-vacation (neither have had time off in the last 6 years). I rode up to Michigan on my Venture and we (them on my Wing) spent 2 days riding about 800 miles (my dad and I ended up putting on around 1000 total riding together for the few days I was there...). And That is the first time I had ridden with both of them. Long ago I did many 'quick' rides (max of 200 miles) puttering around with my dad and a few with my mom but this was different. This ride was extra special to me for many reasons and it meant a lot to me to be able to do this with them. Point being, I'm sure your son enjoyed himself and feels the same way!

I presume that is on his enduro... If I take it easy I can get high 50's on my GS750.
