Pretty pricey for the shipping ($13.95), but the total was still WAY below the price for two new ones, which would have cost over $120. Did the transaction today, and hope to have them by next weekend.

OK, so I ruined my upper deflectors that mount to the inside of the upper fairing when it's split (not the ones down below the lights on the fork). I've got the plastic protrusions that they screw into rebuilt with Plast-Aid since I messed them up with Loc-Tite last month, but the deflectors are irrepairable. Other than ordering OEM replacements at the dealership - for which they want a fortune - does anyone have any ideas on where I can find these? I've searched a number of web sites, and all that seem to pop up are the lower deflectors. I'm interested in both new or used. FYI, the OEM part numbers are: 4XY-2834V-00-00 called Protector 1 4XY-2834W-00-00 called Protector 2 Thanks!

My better, cuter half started 3 years ago on a 2001 Shadow 750 ACE after passing the GSF course and getting her license. She rode the hell out of it for about a year, then wanted something with more "guts and go", but with not much more weight or seat height. About that time is when I got the RSV, so she started riding my VTX1300, and found that to be what she was looking for - not too heavy, not too high for her inseam, and fast as hell. But deep down, she has always been a "Harley chick", so when I found the '03 Heritage Softail, I jumped on it, and while it did take her a little time to adjust to the very low ride and weight differential versus the VTX, she loves it. She is 5'6" and goes about 140, so she is pretty average in that respect (but WAY above average in others!!) I agree with some of the other suggestions in that a somewhat smaller, lighter bike like a 750, C50 or even the 1100 are good 1st bikes to learn on. They are plentiful and cheap on the used market. All the best!

It would be great to finally get to one of these events. Lord knows I could use all of the instruction and advice I can get on maintaining my RSV. The best weekends for me would be the 5th-6th, 12th-13th or the 20th. Thanks for offering to set this up. Hoping for decent weather by then!

Nice job Smely. Can't wait to see it in person. The snow is gone, so we'll be riding soon! If you are bored on one of your off days anytime soon, c'mon over and we'll do some bike rippin and you can show me how easy it was! I've still got to split the fairing anyway to do the repair on my LocTite-damaged wind deflector screw protrusions.

Just talked to my buddy inside Yamaha corporate in Cypress. There are absolutely no plans being discussed to bring a revamped RSV to the U.S. market anytime before 2013 or even later. They are focused almost entirely on remaining competitive in the sport bike and crossover markets, PWC, sport boats (in which they now hold the #1 market share over the likes of Sea Ray and Wellcraft), and ATV's. Harley and Honda are firmly entrenched in their positions in M/C market share, and big expensive cruisers won't help Yamy gain any ground on them. To the powers there, it's a mis-allocation of resources for a company that will post another $100MM+ dollar loss for 2010. The RSV line is destined to flounder in production limbo for a few more years at least. After that, who knows. This is truly from the horse's mouth.

Since it appears that it's neither for sale at retail nor being traded in, I would guess that the mid-point of the two numbers would be the one to go with, roughly $7,800. I would guess that would be the least controversial number. Good luck!

I'd love to take a drive/ride up there to take it off your hands, but I'm slammed this week and won't be able to get away. (It's all down hill from your neck of the woods to the ATL. Can you roll it down to me???)

Thanks Mike. I'll pick one up this weekend and give it a go. Do you have a picture of exactly where you connected them to the light circuit near the battery?

My wife bought me a couple of Sidewinderz LED light strips for Christmas for mounting under the tank to light up the engine, but there is no controller or switch of any kind - just the light strips with about 16" of wire on the end of each one. Does anyone have a recommendation as to a simple light switch kit I should get for these? Electrical is not my strong suit, so I'm fumbling with this a little. I did find this controller on the CruiserCustomizing.com web site, but still not sure it's what I need. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=49&manufacturer_ID=563&product_ID=32058&sblid_name=Street_FX_Electropods_L_E_D_Light_Kit_Power_Distribution_Module&model_id=0

Thanks Jay. I just ordered some Plastex to do the repair on the inner fairing protrusions. Hopefully it will also fix the tabs on the deflectors, or I'll have to replace them.

Wish I'd seen your post on this earlier. Live and learn I guess. I'm still pissed. And for the record, there is no warning on the packaging about this like there is on their web site.

While I had my fairing split to work on replacing my headlamp bulb and doing some cleaning and general maintenance, I removed my deflectors to clean them real good. I reinstalled them last night using a touch of Loc-Tite Blue on the phillips-head bolts and snugged them up without overtightening. This morning when I replaced the bulb and went to re-assemble the fairing, the deflectors literally fell off their mounts. It appears that the Loc-Tite disintegrated the ABS plastic protrusions that the screws mount into on the inner fairing. It's hard to describe, but the plastic turned to black crumbles. I've never seen anything like it. Has anyone ever experienced this with Loc-Tite Blue? My inner fairing will no longer be able to hold the deflectors, unless I can rig something up. This sucks. The pic shows the right side deflector mounted as of last night. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In case anyone is interested or has never split their fairing before, here are some pics I took today while getting to the lamp. It's incredible how dirty it can get under the hood! So it gave me a chance to do some cleaning and inspect all the connections.

Gary: to clarify, it was not the headlight fuse that blew, it was the 12v aux fuse (5 amp) that was blown, due to an overload from a 12v air compressor that I used. Won't do that again! (My head is somewhat fuzzy from last night's festivities.) You are correct - - their is only one 15amp fuse that I'm aware of for the headlight, and that one is OK, so I'm replacing the bulb. Finally got it out after splitting the fairing, but can't get a new one until tomorrow. In the meantime, I've been cleaning, checking connections, and just tinkering to learn as much as I can about all the crapola "under the hood".

Thanks. I was the fuse, but I'm going to change out the bulb anyway. I appreciate the info. Signed, Not-Such-A-Dumba$$-Anymore

Just noticed yesterday that my high beam is no longer working. I'm assuming that this is not a fuse issue as the low beam is still working, so will someone please direct this dumba$$ as to how to change out the bulb! I checked the 2nd Gen Tech Library and didn't find anything. Thanks. Signed, Dumba$$

I installed the Show Chrome shield a few years ago, and love it. It's 4" shorter and 2" wider on both sides. Airflow is still over my head, and better deflection on the sides with no buffeting. And all for under $100.

Sorry. My cell camera won't work for some reason, and my real camera needed to be charged up. But here are a few pics of the new tool chest and my little out of the way refuge in the garage. It doesn't look like much now, but it looks a damn site better than it did a few days ago.

Did you also know that the film changed the name to Bridge On The River Kwai. Boulle's book (90% fiction, but loosely based on bits and pieces of real events surrounding the construction of the Burma Railroad) was titled Bridge Over The River Kwai. Not sure of the reason. Another piece of great trivia from that movie was the origin of the tune that the prisoners whistled while they marched. It was called the Col. Bogey March (originally written in 1914), and later became the River Kwai March. Everybody seems to know it, but many older folks actually associate it with Mitch Miller, who made it his theme song years later. (I'll be humming it all day, now that it's in my head!) Sorry, I'm a trivia nerd, especially about movies.

Ahhhh, but there is a method to my madness. She forgot to take the keys, and now I can keep it locked up and safe from thieves and wives pretending to be thieves! My next project this week is to scour the house for random tools, especially my flat head screwdrivers, that she has used over the past year in her many projects. They never seemed to make it back to their home on the old pegboard in the "cave". LOL! One other tactic I've employed to keep her out of my way - - I bought her a 300mm macro lens for her camera and a new sewing machine for Christmas, two things she's always wanted. Neither require use of my tools, so hopefully I've seen the last of her in The Man Cave!

My better half was actually paying attention when I mentioned a few months ago that I'd really like to get a full size professional Craftsman Tool Chest for the garage, so I could get things organized down there for once in my life. Well, guess what was under the tree? Yep, she got it for me for Christmas. It wasn't exactly under the tree, but the smaller top chest was, and then she led me to the basement where the larger bottom chest was hiding. It's gorgeous - - red, with the ball bearing drawers, liner inserts, a few organizer trays, and a 4X8 comfort mat for the floor and an adjustable-height rolling work stool with tool tray to boot. Guess where I've been these last few days?? I now have a VERY organized work area - - no more tools scattered in 12 different places or dangling on the peg board. I'm in heaven!

...and as long as folks keep needing to borrow money to buy motorcycles, ATV's, jet skis, snowmobiles, landscape maintenance equipment and trailers, I guess I'll stay employed. We'll do just under $1 billion in loans this year alone for that stuff. Pretty amazing. Need to hang in there for 9 more years, and then I can hopefully hang it up and let the wife support me for awhile! Merry Christmas to all. Hope everyone gets what they want. Me? I just want peace on earth. (Well, and maybe a new set of ME880's!)
