The later '85s had the transmission 2nd gear fixed so they are safe to buy as well. The nice thing about the 85 is the larger trunk with the removable saddlebags. Of course the 86 up had bigger saddlebags, but the 1300's aren't quite as quick as the 1200's. Either way, chances are you won't find a more comfortable bike. Just make sure you get a Venture Royale and not the standard for better installed options. The floorboards tend to get pricey and are hard to find stock ones for a 1st gen for the driver. The '86 up had floorboards for the passenger and can be made to work on the 83 to 85 with little work. There are aftermarket boards but they get pricey as well. Best to get one with the boards already on them, unlessyougo the route of highway boards mounted on the crash bars. It is nothing to get well over 100,000 miles on a 1st gen, so don't be too concerned with one with over 50,000 miles on it. There have been some people that have gotten over 200,000 miles on theirs. Also, you havde a lot of tech support here on this site, and very helpful people as well!

Mirror Base
bongobobny replied to hdroyer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Wow, radical "out of the box" thinking!! I bet it will work! Let us know how well it works out! Sorry, I threw out a broken mirror a long time ago, but I'm sure someone here has what you are looking for... -

My experience with Progressive is that they are the present day "Allstate from the 60's" and at best are first class scumballs!! I don't ever want to be involved in an acident with anybody insured by them again!!

Does anyone know anyone who succeeded in one of these?

I really hate hearing of yet another biker down, but it's a little easier to take when the person who went down tells us of it. Hope everything is all right with you and that everything works out OK with the insurance. Yes, unfortunately, stuff happens...

Yup! wish it was closer, I would buy it in a heartbeat...

Just remember to check for a slight amount of free play between the handle and the master cylander push rod if you don't want any problems...

That's how many miles mine had when I bought it 2 years ago... NICE!!! Great price too!!

Question about TCI's
bongobobny replied to bongobobny's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks! Supposedly that is what's wrong with the 85, and I can test it on the 84... -
Is there any difference with the TCI for a 1200 and a 1300?? I just pickied up the guts from a 1300 TCI on ebay for $14 including shipping. It's biled as an '86 up but will it work on an '85??

Owned by a little old lady who only rode it to church on Sundays! That guy would make an excellent used car salesman with all the spin he put on that description! Wow, a Kraco stereo!!!!!!
-
I find this somewhat surprising to hear. Although I have never purchased from them myself (unless I did on ebay and didn't know it) bikebandit seems to be held in high regard by several members here. Hopefully, you can resolve this situation to your satisfaction...

1st Gen. front mudflap
bongobobny replied to cbmel's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Wow! $118!! That's a new record I think! I've always had great experience with Sean, he's OK in my book... -
Just have to put in my $.02 and say the early 1st gen brakes DO leave a bit to be desired. Yamaha recognized the problem and upgraded in '86 but yes, it gets pricey even with used parts, but it's the route I've chosen to take next year...

Just prayed for your complete and speedy recovery, and will continue to do so. Thanks for your testimony to proper riding gear as well. I have Joe Rocket too!
