I know!! How about a contest for the person living closest to Arcade, NY?? Seriously, seeing as Thanksgiving is the next Holiday, how about a contest as why we are Thankful for something related to this website or our scoot, etc?
-
Yes, MUCH better now!! Thanks!

Had to search for an Ice Scraper this morning on the way to work! It's up to 56 right now. I will keep you and Eileen in my prayers. My wife is a breast cancer survivor herself...

dim clock and dim cms display
bongobobny replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Tim, maybe the clear plastic has a smokey film on it, and your clear plastic is now smoke colored plastic!! That would make the display dim, and you may not notice it due to the background color of the display. I finally sent your parts out yesterday, so you should see the stuff tomorrow. I also now have a spare center piece for the dash vents but not the two "up" tubes if you need it... -
biker down need left fairing
bongobobny replied to mother's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You can have the fairing off of my '85, Scott, but I can't help you with the fairing insert. Cage on down as soon as you can but we will be gone for the weekend, as you already know. We will be heading back Sunday afternoon if you wanted to come down then... EDIT: My bad, I only have the RIGHT side. I threw the left side out as it was missing a major portion or it. I do have the turn signal, though, and will bring with me this weekend and give it to BradT or someone else closer to you... -

84 venture running rough
bongobobny replied to lizard62's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Buddy is most likely right! It's the usual source for the problem you describe. The TCI drives the tach. Get the insides wet and there's problems. Take it out, take the cover off, and either sun dry or liw temp oven bake the ubit with the cover off. You also need to thoroughly clean off the contacts on the unit and the connector and use some dielectric grease on the contacts to repel moisture. If you are brave and have the skills, you may want to resolder the pins of the connector on the PC board as with vibration and age, the solder connection breaks down... -
OK Old Hippy, Knows a QUALITY scoot when he rides one!! We are sooo glad you are in one piece. Best of luck in finding a nice 1st gen. If the insurance company gives you a hard time, then insist that they REPLACE your Classic motorcycle with an exact replacement. Never EVER take the first, or the 2nd offer and sign nothing until you have reached a satisfactory agreement. Also, try to get salvage rights to your old one so you have spare parts available to you. We expect you and Nancy to show up next year at the Ontario International meet riding a nice shiny 1st Gen!!

Clutch-here we go again
bongobobny replied to 6pak's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Do yourself a favor and REPLACE those old, dry rotted 18 year old hoses and be done with it!! Sure, they are a little pricey, but it is well worth the peace of mind KNOWING that they will most likely never fail... -

I would add that, if you aren't used to soldering PC boards, find someone who is to do the work for you... -
fuel petcock
bongobobny replied to davez's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes, there is a fix for that. From what I remember the real problem is the switch scraping against the metal plate. The fix was to add a couple of flat washers behind the plate and xiola, works great. Haven't done it to mine yet; still carry my pliers. Anyway I'm sure if you do a search on the subject you will find the fix. -
Clutch lever feels soft
bongobobny replied to Locomotive's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I went the whole nine yards and rebuilt my master and slave, and replaced the hoses, and used synthetic fluid. Those hoses aren't cheap. $40 for the lower one and $60 for the upper one. Clutch feels brand new... -
Head light
bongobobny replied to hdroyer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
GE NightHawk or Sylvania SilverStar are two good bulbs, but along with a brighter bulb what you want to do is remove your black rubber liner, remove the glass, and paint it white. Black absorbs light, white reflects light. Makes a huge difference! Just clean the rubber really good to remove any oily film first and prep the surface with rubbing alcohol. If you want to get fancy, you can mask off the area that is outside of the glass... Marcarl has a Silverstar in his scoot and lined his inside rubber with metalic tape, and I still have the stock light. This spring mine and his side by side they were pretty much equal in brightness and definately brighter than stock, and beat out another scoot with just the stock light and silver tape covering the inside rubber. We did a little test this spring at WOWSkunk's bondfire. -
Cars and friends will be around another day, but a friend in need is a NOW thing. I know it's tough, but help your friend pour concrete. Besides, you can always take a ride after to cool off...

What he said!! Actually fairly easy, and the "O" ring kit is fairly cheap. Complete water pumps pop up on ebay and usually go for around $10 or so, but they probably need rebuilding. The rebuild kits also pop up on ebay, but not the impellors...
