  2. mbrood is correct. I have a friend who has a backrest from an '85 but it needs reupholstering as it is parrtially deteriorated. He may be illing to part ith it. Wow, NOS trunk that was even the right color!!!!!
  3. You may discover that metric 6 point sockets in 3/4 drive work great... Leastwise that's the way it is on my '02 Trep R/T
  4. As far as the seat, and other parts, ebay is the primary place to try. You may also check the clasifieds here as there are a few 1st gens being torn down right now...
  5. My thoughts exactly! Sure, there are a bunch of wires and connectors, but don't let it intimidate you. They are just stupid old wires, and don't have any "smarts." What needs to happen is to address each electrical problem by itself, and describe it as accurately as possible here. There are a lot of skilled people here who can offer you help and point you in the right direction. Sooo, first question, does the bike start and run???
  6. Bill, the '85 was a unique trunk, only fitting the '85. I'm not entirely sure that the '86 up backrest will just bolt on as they are a litle different shaped and have the "arm rests" sort of built into them. You may have to modify where the bolt holes are if you use a newer one. I am getting together with the guys from Ontario today and will esearch this further. Just how much of the key/lock mechanism are you missing? Do you just need the cylander and key, or do you need the sliders, etc??
  7. Nice looking blonde!! I swear these bikes will outlast us...
  8. No, but at this point I bet there are a bunch of springs flying all over the workshop...
  9. I heard ythat this morning on "Nearly Normal News" in the "I Am So Smart" segment. Totaly hilarious!
  10. You can just read his mind by his facial expression, "Oh, CRAP!!!"
  11. Yah, Brrrrrr, eh?!!?
  12. As Mini said, the fine print says this is a lifetime commitment. You can't just leave the "Family"...
  13. Try Road Runner, and Rider...
  14. I'm speechless! Yes, we have lost a creative talent in Boyd...
  15. WhatdoyoumeanIamtalkingtoofast???
  16. Time to remove the radio controller and ohm out each of the switches both off and on. You may find that a switch or two do not go to zero ohms when depressed. You may also find a little corrosion on the board or under the switches. Good luck finding new switches and if you do, let me know where...
  17. Yah!! We are suffering from PMS up here big time!!
  18. That would be my guess as well, the slave cylander. You can get a rebuild kit off ebay fairly cheap. Yes, you should flush the system and use synthetic brake fluid as well...
  19. Yah, that tab had me going for a little while too when I rebuilt my clutch master cylander last summer. You are very welcome for the parts. I have accumulated quite a few crash bars over the last couple of years from ebay trying to find a "perfect" pair. Most of them were in worse condition than what was on my bike. If you haven't found saddlebags yet, I have a pair with a key that need repainting from my '85 parts bike. Sorry, the trunk is going on my '84...
  20. I thought they were a pretty nice bike, but I'm not sure I would bring one home either. Actualy, I am waiting to see what the new 3rd Gen Ventures are like instead...
  21. Wow, a Diesel bike, now there's a radical concept!!!
  22. Absolutely not!!! There ae a lot of drivers out there that are dangerous at 3 mph much less high speeds. Of course, I would never break the speed limit
  23. Yah, Jack, I wonder just how many things we have overdid on each other. Nytreprtvr...
  24. Ventureriders is a huge part of my reality and I have made many great friends thru it!! THANKS, DON!!!!
  25. They may be on my "watch list" but if you give me your ebay name I will make sure I don't bid against you...
