My thoughts, possible bad solenoid contacts, which wil amke the positive lead heat up to the solenoid, or possibly coroded ground conection on the negative side of battery. The stock battery wires are enemic at best and should be upgraded to thicker wires, available on this site, but the way you are describing how hot the solenoid circuit is getting makes me think bad solenoid... -

I've done that with a cheap genric battery as well. Worked fine except the battery only lasted a year...

You can save money and use the 680 instead of the 680MJ. They are the same batteries except for the outer metal jacket. The Odessey is well worth the money, and have more power than the standard wet cell.

Very similar to a lecture we saw at a marriage retreat about 10 years ago, only instead of boxes, it was blocks, and instead of wires, it was chains. My conclusion was men are blockheads and women's brains are in chains...

Or, get an MP3 player with a built in FM tuner... Sony has a nice marine unit that goes for a little over $100, or get in touch with Condor. He deals in marine supplies.
