Mirror for 83
bongobobny replied to hdroyer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I asked about this about a month or so ago and one member was going to send me a set of bases but I never saw them. I had the same idea. They need to be tapped for 10mm, and I am wondering what size the existing hole or the upper section is... -
No, wise Mr. Owl, I live just about as far as you can get from the Big Apple. I live near Buffalo, which is about the most economically depressed area in New York State. NYC is around $4.50 a gallon from what I understand...

Progressive is the modrn day version of Allstate of the '60s and '70's where no reputible collision shop wanted to handle any claims thru them. Let me tell you the story of my wife's last accident. A local yahoo made a left hand turn right in front of her nowhere near an intersection. At the time the guy admitted fault and notified his insurance company, Progressive. A police report was filed, but a day or two later an adsjuster came out and "investigated" the accident scene. He called us and said we had a problem because there was skid marks at the scene, supposedly made by my wife. When I got the phone message (he didn't talk directly to either of us) I immediately went up and looked. Sure enough, there was some skid marks made by a tandem wheel, with a width and tread pattern nowhere near my wife's. So, the obvious conclusion was, either it was such a horrendous crash that made my wife's car to be approximately 16 inches wide, or the adjuster was on drugs. Also, these skid marks (probably made by a rear brake seizing up on a trailer) were around 200 feet long. Now, I am not necessarily a rocket scientist, but perhaps you can explain how a car going approximately 30 mph, the legal speed limit there, with ABS could leave such long skid marks and not deploy the air bags??? Our insurance company ended up sueing them for complete damages. Our agent got a good laugh out of the story and said not to worry, as we were not charged with the accident. Never saw an increase in premiums or anything... Now, what I am wondering, if Floyd got rear ended, why is HIS insurance company paying, and why should HE wory about the deductible???? The guy who hit him is at fault no matter what state, and is completely liable for all damage and medical bills. Oh my back, oh my neck, oh my lawyer...

...and I have nothing nice to say about Progressive!!!

Sorry, Wayne, but the rotors on the '85 are all cracked. New EBC's from Buckeye are around $150 or so apiece, lots cheaper than Yamaha rotors. Just keep watching ebay as they do show up fairly often...

Dunlop 404
bongobobny replied to scooter45's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for this thread as I was considering the 404's for the '85 to save money, but it appears as if it's penny wise, dollar foolish!!! -
If he had to keep the RPM's up to keep from stalling at idle, that would make for difficult turning... Errrrr, not that I would know anything about that!

Yah, seems to be working so far... It only locked up on me once so far trying to read a post.

Very little front brake
bongobobny replied to niagara135's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
BTW the braking system on the early 1st gens leaves a lot to be desired. You are going the right route to install SS lines. Rick at Buckeye Performance sells complete sets for all the lines for brake and clutch for a prety good price. He gives Venturerider members a nice discount. -

Need some insight
bongobobny replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Local dealer claims he has only sold a couple of sets of Avons and then had to buy them back as the owners did not like them. Tell you what, Squid, I am putting on new Elite II's on the scoot, so maybe you can take mine for a short spin next weekend and see if you notice a diference... -
My vote is for the Zumo, either the 550 or the less expensive 450, same unit except for the bluetooth and XM.

Haven't stoped praising the Lord since I read the title, and still am!!! Will continue to pray for complete and speedy healing!

I agree, way out of line price wise. 1500 - 2000 would be more in line if it is running...

You might also want to relocate your TCI higher up like on top of the airbox... -
Ya know, Carl, you usually do have a thread about it in the meet and eat forum. You must be slipping this year...

Can't make it, Tom, Becky will be in Warsaw for a bridal shower and I will be working. Sounds like James will make it, though, and if you post something in the meets and eats forum, you just might get some Canadians to join you as well! PS I saw your nice silver scoot at Pioneer so I know it exists!
