  1. You are talking front only, right? I'm not sure the rears are interchangable without changing rotors AND differential gears (not 100% sure on the gears but I do know the rear ends are not compatible...
  2. Yes, there is a lot involved with removing and reinstalling the rear tire. According to the manual, you need to remove both mufflers (unless you happen to have a 26mm box wrench) or at least losen them so they can be dropped out of the way. It also calls for removing the rear fender, or go the route of raising the bike enough to clear it after unbolting it. Heaven forbid if you happen to have the ooptional aftermarket rear bumper and trailer hitch like I do. Sooo, their labor price is not out of the question. I paid $186 (with a discount) for my Dunlop Elite II, which are getting scarcer every day, plus another $20 nto mount and balance the new tire. So, I'm thinking your local dealer is not too far out of the ballpark. As far as the front shocks, there is also a lot of labor involved with removing the front tire to remove the shock tubes from the bike just to replace the seals, and then reassemble everything. At $40 to $50 per hour for labor or more, it adds up quick...
  3. Yah, I agree with Squeeze, especially when you mentioned you heard "crackling sounds" from under the false tank. I strongly recommend replacing the fuse block (do a search on the subject, lotsa good info here) and go from there. When you replaced the battery cables I assume you upgraded to the larger guage wires. The only other upgrade I suggest is the Odessy battery for hot starting issues, but your problem sounds more like a corroded fuse connection...
  4. I wasn't super happy with XM mostly due to random drop out. Came free for 6 months with Mr Monte and when ther trial was over I didn't subscribe. Instead I have a 30G IPOD and a CD colection of over 600 CD's so I'm good... Did like the comercial free non stop music aspect of XM, but I can do that with my IPOD. Could care less about talk radio. If I want that I'll listen to AM!
  5. 55??? What a young whipper-snapper...
  6. I would strongly suggest resoldering all of the pin connections on the connectors first to eliminate the possibility of that being the problem. I have seen that exact problem on a class controller, and if I recall right, soldering did fix that problem. Ed, if you need to, I have a spare controller unit you can borrow for troubleshooting...
  7. As far as your headlight, sure, replace it with a Sylvania Silverstar or GE Nighthawk or maybe a PIAA. The main idea is that your headlight is possibly 17 years old and at this time living on borrowed time...
  8. Buddy, thanks for confirming what I thought about the '86 up boards. I picked up a pair on ebay a few months ago and though I haven't tried mounting them yet, they LOOKED like they would fit...
  9. Maybe e can hook up Fri nite for a while, Reiny. We have a wedding to go to Saturday, and I'm working Friday, but Fri eve should be free...
  10. We're going to a weddeing on the 7th, but if you guys aren't returning until Sunday, take a slight detour on the way home and stop by! Go due east from Dunkirk and find Rt 39. We live on 39 just past Rt 16...
  11. Very entertaining!!
  12. Don, if you are ever in the area, please stop in. We are about halfway between Buffalo and Olean...
  13. According to my owner's manual, it states "It has been reported to us by other Piggy Backer owners that tire pressure between 40 and 50 PSI seems to work well. Tire pressure listed on the tire itself is 60 PSI. To prevent excessive tire ear, check your tire pressure once the trailer is loaded before and during your trip." Hope that answers your question. My Piggy Backer XL is only half assembled as of this morning...
  14. Uhhhh, at the Great Crash, none, zero, nada...

  16. Myself, as of late, have been using Rick at Buckeye Performance parts for all of my orders. We get a pretty healthy discount as Ventureriders...

  21. I couldn't agree more, but sometimes it seems difficult getting people together. I have all but volunteered free gas just to get people to come to my fall folage ride. I haqve tried for the last 2 years to get something off the ground with little success. That being said, our place is always open to Ventureriders, and for that matter, Venturers as well. This August when I am recovering from foot surgery I am very hopeful members will stop by and help me pas the time away...
  22. Wow!! Due to retirement, and a remote starter, the wife has relinquished the garage to me! Goldie will not have to sleep in the shed, and I won't have to almost kill myself getting it out in the spring...
  23. I WILL agree with you on the Honda engines!!
  24. Wow, you replaced a Tecumseh with a Briggs and Stratton??? Just remember Briggs & Stratton is B.S...
  25. Just got done replacing my front tire along with installing new bearings and seals. Walk in the park as long as your axle hasn't rusted solid onto the center spacer. Had to beat the crap out of my rear axle to get it out but the front one came out relatively painlessly...
