They are sort of similar to the ones Nash used to have on theirs, but if I recall they were flying ladies...

That's possible, but more than likely is the fuel level sendor unit, which is actually a rheostat to ground, has developed issues. This is a common problem. You can remove the sender unit and carefully remove the tin cover over the resistor element and clean the accumulated crud off of the element. You can also increase the tension on the slider with a screwdriver adjustment. Chances are you are going to find the resistor element is warped. You may end up replacing the sendor unit with another known good one...

It's only been a few weeks since we last rode the scoot, and already I'm going nuts!!! Depression is seting in and I can't wait to rework the scoot and take it out again!! Winter projects include upgraded front suspension and brakes, along with bigger saddlebags and trunk. Came up with a few minor mods as well. The big winter project is getting the '85 running and start it's restoration! What are your winter plans?? Maybe we need a mid winter get together somewhere around here...

My wife and I wil be in the SE Pa region the week of July 4th. We will be staying in Reading Pa. Yes, you will enjoy the Poconos along with the Amish area. There are several members in the area to meet up with. We are also planing on going to Don's maintenance day and staying the weekend. There wil most likely be a fairly large group travelling from Canada that we might meet up with. Hope to catch you along the way or at Don's!

Found out your 1st gen is a tad tall, eh?!!?

There are a couple of aftermarket stators out there that give a little more output than stock. You might want to talk to Rick at Buckeye Performance. He is a member here and gives a discount to vr members. He's listed in the vendors who give us discounts area. Yhere is also an oil cooling kit available for the early mk1's but there is a good chance that the mod to correct the inadequate cooling has already been done to yours under recall. Do a search as this has been discussed here in the past. As ling as your rectifier is working OK there should be no real reason to replace it at this time. They are pretty much a works or don't work item...

Headlight Replacemnt for 1st Gen?
bongobobny replied to sefner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
9003, I stand corrected. It would have been obvious as I think the 9004's have a 90 degree base... -
86 Royale slippin and sliden

I like EBC's myself, but most any brand should be ok. You might want to consider flushing your hydraqulic system as long as you are going to do your brakes. I like those speed bleeders that you can buy on ebay. Give what Saddlebum suggested and rough up your existing pads first and see if it helps any. All pumping your brakes when wet does is to tend to dry off your pads a little from friction. I assume the pedal feels the same before and after pumping as far as travel is concerned...- 9 replies

Headlight Replacemnt for 1st Gen?
bongobobny replied to sefner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK mone of the best things you can do to get more light out of the MK1's (besides switching over to a Mk2 headlight assembly) is to paint the black rubber casing around the headlight white. You want to remove the rubber piece and remove the glass as well from the plastic frame and clean it really good with a degreasing cleaner, followed by a rinse with rubbing alcohol. Now get yourself a can of cheap gloss white enamal paint and give it a good coat or two. While you are waiting for the paint to dry, head to your local Wally World and buy yourself a 9004 (I think) Sylvania Silverstar or GE Nighthawk High Intensity halogen bulb. The biggest change in light intensity will be from the white paint. Last time I checked, white reflects the full spectrum of light whereas black absorbs it... -
Man, I betcha you get a lot of varied responses to this one, Reiny. I bought a set of those matched wires from ebay, which come with pre gapped NGK plugs. Others will say save money and make up your own set of wires using Excel wires. Yet others will advise you to make sure you replace the resistor caps as well. Do a search on the subject and find there's a lot of good information already discussed on the subject...

Looks like we're "Venturing" to the "dark side"...
bongobobny replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
Sooo, you switched over to the dark side, eh?? Well, congratulations! Let me tell you how I feel about it. There will always be friendly rivalry between 1st and 2nd gens but it is all in good fun. Neither bike is better than the other, it's all a matter of personal preference. What really matters is how YOU feel about the bike. The first gen is a very nice and comfortable reliable scoot but so is the second generation. That being said... Traitor:stirthepot: -
Glad you made it out and back safely! Sorry about the loss of your camera, though. We must have taken about 500 pictures when we went out there a couple of years ago. Mraf is right about Zion and Bryce, and hope you got to see them as well. I'm pulling the '85 into the garage to try to get started and restored this winter. Glad you talked me into taking the title just in case!
