Seat swap situation

2 bolts. Done deal! -
It's been done by a few members, and here's the deal. It's pretty much direct bolt on, but you have to switch rotors as they are a different kind. You need to install the newer brake calipers as well as your old ones won't fit, but that's pretty much the main reason to upgrade, for the beter brakes. If possible, switch master cylanders in both the front and rear as the bigger calipers use a little more volume of brake fluid, but your Mk1 masters wil work, but not 100% efficient. I would strongly suggest rebuilding the shocks first, and if you can afford it, install progresswive springs. You may as well go all the way and upgrade the rear brake as well. You have to change the caliper holder, but it is poretty much bolt on. As far as the electric anti dive, it is triggered thru a relay by the brake light signal. I'm finally getting around to doing mine this winter...

Jonas, Big Tom lives in the western part of New York state, near Buffalo/Niagara Falls. I live south of him. We will be meeting up with you on Friday if that's the route you are taking. We wil most likely meet up with several Canadians as well. We wil hit Oberlin late Friday afternoon. Should take about 6 hours to get there. Looking forward to meeting you!

Your neutral light problem is most likely dirty contacts on the gear imndicator switch. It's a rotary type switch with a contact for each gear position. Without the neutral signal the bike will never start (probably the reason it sat for years). Consult the service manual for proper procedures for removal. There is an electronic PDF file of the manual on this site. I'm assuming that the green neutral light does not light as well... -

The signal from the brake light fires a relay that engages the anti dive solenoid. Soooo, just splice a line into your brake lights to the primary of a relay with the other side of the primary coil to ground. One end of the relay contacts goes to the battery, and the other relay contact goes to the anti dive unit. Easy enough? IMHO the conversion is well worth the time but you should change over the rear as well to include the rear master cylander for maximum benefit. Anti dive is a good thing to have, but so is progressive springs. To my knowledge the springs are the same from the mk1 and mk2... -
Hey Big Tom, looks like you and me gotta go to 'lil Brother's shopping some time soon...

A couple of the Ontario members have seen that rig up close and personal. Definately a show stopper!!!

Wow, thanks for the heads up about 4 rooms being left, Dave! Just made our reservations for Friday and Saturday. Soooo, I guess that means we're committed and have to show up this time... Man, there could be quite the group ride coming from Ontario and New York!

I think you did just fine thanking us, Yama Mama. We really don't expect the world to be handed to us on a silver platter, nor do we ask anything of anyone, other than what you have already done, which is to recognize us for what we are, just an ordinary person who chose to serve our great nation. I served in the Army from 1967 to 1970 and was in Vietnam from July of 1967 to June of 1770 with the 101st Airborne Division. I also want to thank my fellow Veterans for serving their country with pride!
