  1. Holy CRAP Rick!! Praise God you are around to tell us about it in person! Hopefully, you will be back to normal in no time...
  2. With the "sneak preview" pictures, I am sort of hoping that the exhaust is partially blackened out coming from the front to the rear and it is really a V-4 in there. The detailing is hard to pick out in the picture! I'm really hoping for a large 4 banger...
  3. It's been quite a while since I put mine on my RSV but you have to remove your lower fairings for starters which are not that big of a deal. I'm sure others will chime in but yes there is a fair amount of disassembling involved but it is not an all day project...
  4. Yup Dan, pretty much the same deal with a 2nd gen as well! It's just the right amount of twisting, swear words, more twisting, a swift kick and all of a sudden plop, it's on the floor...
  5. See ya at Big Tom's unless you journey down here to see how much the place has changed since you were last here...
  6. If flushing your clutch system does not fix it, then I suspect that your clutch slave cylinder is leaking and will need to be replaced. I am thinking, though, that a good thorough flush will fix your issue...
  7. Yup, your Tach is just an analog AC voltmeter, strictly an electrical device that uses the number 2 coil primary signal from the TCI to trigger it. If you are NOT experiencing any kind of miss or power loss, then maybe the issue is a ground problem as the Tach has to have the ground as well as the input timing pulses. There could also be an issue with the gray wire going to the tach, like maybe at the input connector to the dash...
  8. Yah! Follow the procedure, it's all about getting all 4 butterflies working exactly the same! You will find, however, that they will react differently to each other and you will find yourself going back and forth a few times to get all 4 working the same...
  9. Sorry I haven't responded sooner, I just recently lost a good friend myself so I'm kind of at a loss for words, but I give you my deepest sympathy as I know the feeling, I have lost both of my parents and it's never easy to take...
  10. Today's MacGuyver award goes to... SKID!!!
  11. Another likely possibility, especially with one side as opposed to front/back, check the two carb vent hoses, I'll betcha an insect has made a nest in one of the hoses. What that does is shut down the venting of the fuel bowls on one side which traps air in the bowls and creates air pressure when the fuel tries to fill the bowl. Just take one hose at a time and try to blow through it. If it is plugged, you will know it! I went through this about 4 years ago myself...
  12. Here ya go... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?489-Battery-Warning-Bypass
  13. Here's how to eliminate the red battery warning light... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?489-Battery-Warning-Bypass
  14. One of the cool tricks brought out here for the vents is to use those foam earplugs to wedge the fins open. It is an unfortunate fact of life that the plastic gets worn and they don't stay open. The issue with the mirror is also a very common problem and unfortunately, you really can't disassemble them and tighten the screw to stiffen them up so you kind of need to replace them. There is a trick but very dangerous to try, it involves injecting a very small amount of acetone into the joint and rotating the joint for a while. What happens is the plastic will semi-melt and kind of fuse together, which is why you want to keep rotating the pieces until the chemical reaction stabilizes. This method may or may not work but what do you have to loose?? There have been people who take the base and thread it for 11mm screw in mirrors... Yes, you need to get your carbs synchronized before doing a final idle adjustment as the sync will affect the idle speed somewhat. They want to be synced at 1000 rpm's if possible. These carbs are very complex with multiple "circuits" depending on rpm's and many things can and do go wrong from plugged passageways to tears in the rubber diaphragms. There is an excellent video out there by a man by the name of Damon Ferraiuolo (sp?) on rebuilding VMax carbs available on ebay but the procedure is identical for the Venture carbs with the exception of jet sizes which is also brought out in the video. The DVD sells for $12 and it is a very worthwhile investment!! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?119186-Bought-Carb-Rebuild-Video-by-Damon-Ferraiuolo&highlight=damon
  15. Yup, just one of those things we all have to go through (pun maybe intended...) and here's hoping everything is A-OK!! Two weeks ago we went through quite a scare with Becky, they found something and they did indeed suspect cancer and took a biopsy. A week later it came back negative but she still has to go through another colonoscopy in a couple of weeks to remove what is now defined as polyps...
  16. And besides that, it's not June 5th yet, and we are notorious for hijacking threads here!! If you want to go the buy something, then take a couple of months to pay for it, there are a lot of Zero interest for an introductory period so you don't pay interest cards out there! I get one of those every year for major purchases that I can't pay off in a month, such as a $5,000 engine rebuild...
  17. Reserve not met!! Fenders would not be that big of a deal to fabricate...
  18. Man, I am sorry to hear about this as I use the Bosch as well, and I think I used my last one up last summer! Thanks for the heads up and I will be opening boxes at my local Auto Zone...
  19. I agree with Camos, I use charge cards for EVERYTHING! It is a discipline though, and pay off the entire balance in full before the due date! I pay mine off on a weekly basis, that way if I ever do accidentally overspend I still have a few weeks to make up the additional money. Online payments are the way to go for doing that! Also, by using credit cards I am able to literally give myself a minimum of a 1% raise but more like 2% to 3% of my income with cash back programs. For me, unless you have no annual fee and give me money back, I don't use or even own you. I just bought a new $40,000 car in February and got over $2500 cash back from my GM card towards the purchase price, and when we went on vacation the following month I cashed in $300 for gas cards from other credit cards. The only downside from the whole car purchase is my FICO score dropped waaaay down to 830 (yes I am being a little sarcastic). So yes, IMHO, make credit cards work to your advantage! No, it is not for the faint of heart or the undisciplined though...
  20. We use silver vented Nolan full face flip ups! If your helmet is black, get rid of it in the summer and switch to silver or white, a huge difference!!! Yes, we use mesh armor jackets in the summer as well...
  21. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think the maximum pressure is 14 psi...
  22. Find your answer here... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?128420-Yamaha-video-with-diamond-cut-heads
  23. From what I remember they are the same part. Only the MK1 had rear pegs, with the MK2, as you already know, the rear passenger has fold down floorboards. You could always disassemble your pegs and replace the rubbers as I am about 95% sure they are the same...
  24. As a matter of fact one of the persons is indeed a member here...
