CB for 83 Venture Royale
bongobobny replied to mixon's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK I just put the first bid on the MK2 CB I am watching. J&M makes a CB unit that mounts on the handlebars. When I installed the CB o n the '84 I lucked out getting the cables I needed from Thom440 off of his parts bike. Many thanks, Thomas, it was a blessing!! If you go that route, you will need to gewt the fairing dash from a MK2 to make the installation easier than the route I went which was to cut up and fabricate the mount for the CB and put it where the 2 piece one goes on the MK1. I had to relocate the radiator surge tank for clearance. It was an involved project to say the least, but I'm glad it's done so now I can communicate with other riders...- 4 replies

CB for 83 Venture Royale
bongobobny replied to mixon's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK first off, there are 2 different style CB's, the right one for the '83 thru 85 which consists of a controller that mounts on the fairing top above the CLAS controller, and the actual CB box which is mounted in the fairing. The '86 up is a self contained unit that is deep and has to be mounted wqhere the existing CLAS controller is and the controler is mounted above the CB. Both styles (and to make life more confusing, the 83 `- 85 has 2 different versions) are hooked up to the audio amplifier via a 6 pin DIN cable, and you hear it thru the audio system/intercom, and use your intercom mike for the CB mike. Which one are you bidding on? There is one on my watch list presently going for $36 that ends in a day or so that I was planning on sniping but if that is the one you are looking at I will not bid. OK you will need an antenna splitter, a PTT button, and the stock stereo/intercom system as well as the din cable to hook up the CB to the audio system...- 4 replies

You could buy some short bolts of the right thread (Lowes is a pretty good source of metric bolts) and then also buy a can of gloss black paint while you're there. When you get home find a piece of cardboard and make some holes in it and put the bolts in the hole to just expose the heads. Then proceed to paint the bolt heads a nice shiny black. Let dry a few days and then carefuly screw in. You may want to consider some loctite so you don't have to torque them so hard and wreck your paint job.. Viola, a nice custom job that will look stock...

Yah! Good stuff!! Brad, give me a call preferably evenings, I'm usually home after 4:00 Not a big problem to ship, was just thinking of saving a few bucks but it's no big deal. I'll take the problem one in return and see what I can do with it... -

Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
bongobobny replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks, Earl! I've seen that set and was wondering how they were. I have 2 sets of carbs for rebuild (or now possibly only 1 set if I give up a carb to Squidley) to get around to one of these days. I need at least 1 set for the 85 project bike. The 84 is still running pretty decent, and I can always rebuild the set fom the 85 to have as spares... -

I like photography, home improvement, music, travelling, socializing, and doing things for others. Not necessarily in that order. Right now, though, my main hobby is restoring/improving my 2 Venture Royales. This afternon I'm polishing a boatload of bolts and brake hardware...

OK, so now my story. Went to an airshow in '86 with my then girlfriend Becky and saw a VR immediately fell in love! I was riding a XS500 at the time. Thought it was the ultimate in motorcycles but couldn't afford anything like it. It far surpassed the Gold Wings of the time. Fast forward to three years ago. My Honda CX650 was blown of the centerstand and sustained some damage, I had that bike since '94 so it was time to either hang it up or find a bike my now wife Becky and myself both liked. Well, a guy at work had a neighbor who had this old classic motorcycle with low miles so I went to see it. One test drive and we were sold and the rest is history!! It had 8700 miles and I got it for $2700!! This is most likely the last scoot I will ever own, unless we actually wear it out bewfore we are too far gone to ride any more... PS the bike I saw at the airshow was a blonde as well!

Stereo and speakers 1986 Venture XVZ
bongobobny replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
the Royale came with an AM/FM?Cassette unit that is also tied into an intercom unit. The radio amp has a circuit that automatically increases the volume as your speed increases. There is also an optional CB radio that ties in with the intercom as well. They pop up on ebay all the time. They consist of the radio control module, the preamp control module, the tuner chassis, and the main amplifier unit. The wiring is most likely already part of your harness. Depending on whether or not you need/want an intercom, many members and non members have installed a regular car stereo on the bike. If you go this route, I would strongly recommend a marine type stereo, such as the Sony unit... -

Not sure where to start.....
bongobobny replied to 83VR3711's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You may have a contaminated gas tank, and changing the fuel filter temporarily fixed it but now the new fuel filter may be just as plugged up, but go with the previous suggestion first. Just a thought, but it would not really explain your initial problem, just the starting problem...- 23 replies
