YUP!! Nothing more than soap and water on the tires!!! Unlike car tires that do not roll sideways like a bike tire does, you do not want anything that will limit traction when you are cornering!!!

When you are syncing the carbs, all you are doing is adjusting the throttle plates so that they are all pulling the same amount of air through each of them at the same time. This does absolutely nothing as far as the air/fuel mixture! What you need to balance the air/fuel mixture to the proper ratio is to either use a CO "sniffer" or use a colortune plug. The CO analyzer is more precise and easier to read but costs a lot more. There are removable threaded metal caps on each exhaust pipe to insert the analyzer probe into and you adjust your mixture screws for a reading of 5.1 on each carb. If you use the less expensive special colortune plug, it screws into where the spark plug goes for each cylinder and you adjust the mixture screw for the "perfect" shade of blue on each one. You need to literally place yourself under a black hood to properly see the color, what you are looking at is the actual explosion of fuel through a tiny window! You can try turning in all of the screws and backing them out 2 1/4 turns as a starting point, but that is only a rough setting and not completely accurate. Fine tuning each one will get the bike running at the optimum amount and bring fuel efficiency back to the 40MPG range... Also, what the Pucster said about float adjustment is also very important!!!

BTW I need to mention that these bikes do NOT run very well at all with the airbox off and/or the air filter removed! They require the proper intake restriction to run properly...

Yup, without proper lubrication it is very easy to scarf a rubber seal or o ring! Years of aircraft hardware assembly taught me this... Also, did you hone the cylinder before rebuilding?? Also, check for a nasty score on the surface that can allow for fluid to blow by...

Another indicator of a bad solder connection is new solder should look shiny. As solder deteriorates with age it will dull just like a cold solder joint looks. With motorcycles, there is always vibration and with the case of the edge connector that has some weight attached to it the pins for the connector will break loose internally inside the ball or glob of solder. If you are comfortable with soldering then reheat and reflow all of the edge connectors joints. If you aren't adept at soldering then find a friend who is and have them redo the joints...

Yet another vote for an oil change!! As far as the clutch goes, put the bike in 1st gear and rev it up a lot. Does the bike want to try to creep forward?? If NOT, then your clutch is fine!!!

I drilled and tapped mounting holes on the bottom of my floorboards and it works pretty good, but I have a trike...

Yup! Think 15W40 or 15W45 Diesel engine oil, works perfectly in our V4's. As mentioned we have what is known as a "wet" clutch so no motor oils with friction inhibitors in them unless you like clutches that slip...

Why not save yourself some money and just drill a couple of holes in the back of the stock mufflers? It gives you a deep throaty growl with the loudness that depends on just how many holes you drill. Talk to Big Tom about how and where and how many holes...

OK, dollars to donuts the first major issue you will have is with the carburetors, which are quite complex. There is a lot of great information out there to help you out with this, and even a great video on how to properly rebuild and set them up! Yup, you stole that one! The sidecar alone is worth that much if not more! If you do part it out you can get $1000 to $2000 but it is a long tedious undertaking... Welcome aboard, we will help you out with this as much as we can!

Thanks to this thread, when I saw the guy who bought my old Malibu he asked me if I knew how to remove the pinstriping on it that is half gone, I answered "Easy Off Oven Cleaner." He went to the store and by evening all of the crappy half gone pinstriping was long gone! Worked like a charm! (Note to self, if I decide to get any pinstriping done on the Impala, have somebody other than JBird do it...)
