  1. Why not use on windshields, is it acetone based? Lens plastic is acetate based most of the time and you can remove the haze from the lens by wetting a rag in acetone an wiping the lens, wipe the lens quickly then let dry undisturbed till the plastic hardens. Then repeat as necessary and buff when done. Rod
  2. This would be a first for me as evey pitcock I have seen has had a screen to trap gunk from the tank. As to the ear plug if it desolves no problem, if it floats still no problem. Let us know the out come. Rod
  3. I just signed up (did all the paperwork) today. My friend is the site manager here in San Diego. She tried to get me in for 6 mo but I am a white male so I keep getting bumped. I am sure to get in the Sept. rotation. I find it ironic that I taught Her how to lead group rides for our group. Rod
  4. Have you tried McMaster-Carr? They just about anything I hve wanted. Never looked for wedge washers tho. Rod
  5. Are you sure it is not a locking washer with the tang bent over into the knoch in the nuts? If so just pry it up to tighten the nut then bend back when done. Rod
  6. While on the subject of CB's is the fold down mount listed in this thread a direct replacment for 2nd Gen fold down? Mine is all rusted. Thanks Rod
  7. Depends on who does it. One shop here changes the valve stem every time and charges you for the part. The shop I use checks it and only changes them if they need it. The rubber seal will go bad over time. Rod
  8. I took the Experienced Rider Coarse yesterday on the Venture. I have been riding 35+ years. It was quite challenging but fun anyway. We have 5 instructors in our riding and I have done most of the exercises in our training sessions but not officially signed up for the class. It cost $125 and well worth the money. They pointed out some of my bad habits and helped me with my technique. The "box" and the "offset weave" were the hardest but I made it through with out dropping the bike at all. I plan on taking the instructors coarse and get my certificate to teach. No matter how long you have been riding this is a good thing to do every one has room to improve. Tips: bring something to drink and a snack, don't have a full tank of gas (too much extra weight), relax and just do it. I found I tried to hard and tensed up on some exercises and did much better after I relaxed. Have fun and enjoy the ride. Rod

    Affordable GPS

I was just looking at the car mount that came with the GPS and had an idea so checked it out on the bike. If you take the top piece off the car mount you can use this with the clamp I used and no need to use the knuckle I have. It may need a spacer depending on how close you want it to the radio control. Hope this helps. Rod

    Affordable GPS

I used a 3/4" insulated EMT strap on the handle bar because I wanted to clamp on the bend of the bars. The Knuckle mount is off a CCTV mount but some automotive cell phone holders use the same setup (I have an old mount that is exactly the same as the GPS car mount but the stem was too long). I had to drill a 1/4" hole in the center of the GPS and grind the nut down so it did not stick too far out (you can get thinner nuts I just did not have one handy).I like it sitting next to the audio control. Thanks to Chaos for posting the pics. Rod

    Affordable GPS

As for the question of weather proof I did not have a problem with the unit mounted in a downpour in Tuson till I got stopped in traffic, at which time I tucked it away. Moving down the road it did not get wet at all. I will post pics of my mounting tommorow if any one is interested. Rod

  14. I use the piece of guitar string to clean tubes like that. You can even chuck them up in a drill. Spray with carb cleaner work guitar string through the tube and repeat till clear. Have you tried soaking in carb cleaner and blowing compressed air? I think that the tubes are brazed in on those old RD's so you might try to take them off and replace them. Will keep my eyes open for a tank. Rod
  15. What did you use to get the clear coat off Buddy? Looks good. Rod

    nitros

I saw a few here but do not know the owners. I see no reason why not. There are 2 RSV I have seen with turbos and they had some problems with getting them set up, don't know if they ever got them right. Rod
  18. Don't know about sleds but I had an old 2 stroke motorcycle when I was 15 that did that. After trying everything listed here I took it to the dealer (much to my shame). They pulled the baffles out and it ran great. the baffle was totally plugged with carbon. Rode it home and it was LOUD. Heated the baffles and tapped them with a hammer to remove the carbon and ran like new. Rod

I need to replace the rear speakers on my MM Venture. Don had the brand and part # for replacements. Did some one save the info? Thanks Rod:guitarist 2:

    Rev limiter

I agree Don. I maxed out in 5th and down shifted and buried the needle in 4th. At the time I had the room to give it it's all but shifting to 5th was a mistake. Live and learn Rod

    Rev limiter

Ya Buddy know what you mean. I have tried 2 times in 4th and ran out of clear road. Seat of the pants told me it would get there in 4th if I had more room but 5th no way. Thanks Rod
  23. Has anyone with a 2nd gen or RS hit the rev limiter in 4th or 5th gear? Just wondering. Rod
