Rear wheel help 84 xvz12
gord replied to gord's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
just as I suspected the idiot that I had working on my bike lost a part. The spacer/washer between the swing arm and the brake caliper bracket. I am gonna shim it up some with washers, but would love to have the original part, if you have one, let me know Thanks Gord -
Hi, I have been having a lot of trouble with the bike since having a tire installed in the spring. I took the wheel off again to replace the back tire and discovered what I think might be a missing part. I have the axle bolt, and a washer that goes on just before the crown nut. Am i right in thinking that there should be a spacer/washer between the swing arm and the caliper housing, ? let me know , or if you have a picture/ drawing of the back wheel components it would be a big help. Thanks Gord

I like the riding through Lake George, Lake Placid, all of the Adirondacks, . pretty close to the city areas too. Also would be an easy ride for some of us Northerners.

Hey, I replaced my stock speakers on my 84 with JBL speakers assured by the salesman that they were perfect for my bike. the lying swine lol. They were blown with in the first month of riding., I think I am gonna try to get some money back and try the pioneers , I love my tunes when I ride. I also replaced my original stereo with a JVC , the CD only plays well when I am on a smooth road, but the radio is great. Gord:guitarist 2:

more brake trouble Help!!
gord replied to gord's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
and I tried a piece of straight gas line that I had in my shop from an old Chevy and yep, it kinked, so I parked and will order a new one tomorrow. This is all totally my fault, I put the exhaust back on and for "rust" reasons did not have the heat shields off the back header pipes . I guess I am gonna have to take the exhaust back off and install the shield and might as well go all out and install the new gaskets as well, does anyone know where I can get a set of of exhaust gaskets ? awesome help and awesome site, thanks gord:322: -
About to paint my bike.
gord replied to NLAlston's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
this worked perfectly for me, I had over 100 hours in the prep work, but learned a lot of valuable lessons along the way, in the end, I bought the pint (auto) the reducer and anything else I was told to by my paint guy. it cost about $175 Can . I paid him a substantial sum to spray it for me in my garage ..... ok, ok, it was a case of beer and a steak dinner lol. but you get the point.... sometimes it is just better to let an artist do there thing and pay , pay , pay.!!!!! good luck and show pics after.. gord -

exhaust collector box trouble
gord replied to gord's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks Denden and SliverT, a great option and it looks really great. I am hoping that the one Freebird has will work out perfectly thanks again, Gord -
Hi all, I FINALLY took the leap and decided to try to change the thermostat on my 84 xvz12 and had to remove the right hand exhaust . when I did that I discovered the reason for my loud exhaust, my collector box was screwed and there is no way to fix it , it is pretty much burnt up. the good news is that both mufflers and all 4 header pipes are in good condition. Does anyone know where I can get a good used collector box, or even if I can get a new one. HELP!!!!!!! my ride is parked till I get this fixed Thanks Gord

I was hoping for the wife and I to ride to the Island this year for a holiday but illness prevented it. hopefully next yr we will make it. I grew up in Summerside (Airforce Brat LOL) -
less than 2 weeks, the 2nd time riding to work. Man I was feeling pretty high up in the world riding in on my shiney new steel blue 84 xvz12, Tunes were sounding great. I pulled into the parking spot real graceful like and decided to lean her over a bit and back up so that the front of the bike was pointing in the best postion to be seen. I was feeling pretty good about my new bike. Just as I started to back up , my foot slipped out from under me, sliding quickly on a bed of dried up pine needles that had fallen from the tree behind my parking spot. The bike's weight suddenly became apparent as it leaned heavely against my thigh., I had no choice but to let her down as gently as I could. slowly and with no doubt a look of horror on my face it started to slide down. It was like it was in slow motion lol. It hit , and landed on the engine gaurd so softly that I could barely hear it. I got off and looked around hoping that no one had seen it. I thought I had gotten by when a good friend could be heard snickering and asking if I was ok. Of course I said I was even though I could feel the torn muscles in my back and neck from trying to save my new bike from any harm or God forbid a scratch. He helped me get it back on it's wheels and onto the center stand . I thanked him and just knew he would tell, lol. YEP he did, I was teased pretty good for the last week or so, but I guess I just mark it up to another learning experience. EMBARRASSED?????NAH , NEVER lol P.S. hope I am still elcome in this club hee hee

HI all, I need some help, last nite whilst I was out for a ride, the heat gauge was around the red mark most of the time. I have lots of coolant. so I am guessing that I need a new thermostat. I have never done it before and don't even know where it is. I am more than willing to give it a go changing it. I eas hopeing that someone here has a step by step for me to follow. Thanks Gord. P.S. what other things would cause it to run so hot?
