I have 06 RSV

The Speedohealer is about $115-120 now.

Custom Dynamics is a great source for all kinds of lighting. I changed mine (as have many here) to all LEDs, front & rear. You don't need any kind of resistors or load equalizers unless the faster flash bothers you. Even then, you can replace your stock flasher with an electronic one, although, if you do, you will lose the auto turn signal cancel feature. That's what I did. In the rear I went with the Dynamic Clusters that transform your turn signals to run/turn/brake lights. Here you can find the LED brake lights. I've got the 32 LED model. If I were to get one again, they now have the 100 LED model that wasn't available when I got mine. Oznium is another site from which I've purchased. There are many options out there. These are just a few. Have fun.

Changing Final Drive
awsmsrv replied to rayzar52's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Isn't it the other way around? The swap actually raises the RPMs making it less likely to lug the engine. -
2nd Gen questions
awsmsrv replied to stickhandle2's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
NOT 10 in front. Only up to 7. I also believe the rear can go up to 57. -
OK smarteepants, I mean Snaggletooth. The clamp that came with the DS mini tach won't fit where Goose put his. I like that his looks directly at you. I'd have to put it near the brake fluid reservoir near the bend in the bars, so, it would be slightly angled. I can live with that, but, would prefer it straight. Also, I'm thinking the wires will have to be extended to reach their destinations. What more can you tell me? (Yes, I know this is an old thread, but, rather than start a new one on a common topic, I revived this one.)

I'm adding the Drag mini tach & see that you used a clamp from JCW. Is this the one you used?

Changed shock & lowered, vibration
awsmsrv replied to Robby's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds to me that you're just lugging the engine. Remember, these bikes like higher RPMs, not like a v-twin. When I first got my RSV I thought it didn't have much power. Then I learned things from this site that set me straight. Wind it out, man! -
Also, if they are amber, you'd have to change them to red to have them as running lights. I also like having more light back there, so I converted mine (2nd Gen RSV) to running/brake/turn with products from Custom Dynamics.

Anyone have "little known secrets" about 2nd Gen
awsmsrv replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
I do, I do. -
Actually, it doesn't look like that. The wires only come out of the right side & are not coiled like the one in your pic. I have the powersports version that's meant to be attached somewhere within sight. Took the bike out today to see how the Battery Bug works. Shows between 14.0 & 14.2 volts while riding. Sitting in the garage it shows 13.0. New battery is at 100%. Seems to be working just fine.
-
The one I have doesn't sit on the battery. The leads are about 6 feet long. I've attached it to the cassette door so I can always see it.
-
Those of you who have the Battery Bug installed: Is it always on or does it shut itself off after a certain amount of time? I just installed a new Deka battery so as not to be stranded if the old one decided to die (over 7 years old). At the same time I installed a Battery Bug that I've had just sitting in the garage for years. Thanks.

This is exactly what I've been doing for years. I almost never go to the home page.
-
WOW! I looked at one that was for sale for........................ $18,000 No thank you. & it is made of wood. Didn't bother looking at any more prices.
-
I didn't see any prices. Says to call. Did you inquire as to the pricing? I think those are really neat, but not worth what you're saying, at least, to me.

Another "FWIW" comment: I liked the way the old way worked because if I'd read a post & then click "New Posts", the post I just read shows up still, but not bold like the others I haven't read. If I wanted to go back to the post, it was easy. Now I have to hit "Todays Posts" to even see it again because it disappears from "New Posts" the way it is now. That being said, I could get used to the new way, which is really what it comes down to anyway. We are creatures of habit & this new way is not what we're used to, that's all. Another thing, when a post was read & not in bold it was a visual aid as to where you were in reference to other unread posts.

On a similar note, why do dogs love to go after bikes, motorized or not? I know some will chase cars, but, they seem to want to chase bikes in particular. Anyone smarter than I (that should be most of you) got an explanation?
-
Assuming your profile pic isn't reversed, yes, your antennae are installed on the wrong sides of the bike. As far as the CB is concerned, it does need to be tuned. I don't use my CB, so have never done it. I'm sure someone more knowledgable than I will be along shortly to help with that.

Slight hijack, but, what a neat little camper/trailer. How long/wide/tall is that? Homemade? I want to see a picture of yours, too.
-
NAPA near me has it for $219. Still, $180 is a decent discount, just not as much as your friend makes it sound. If the headlight on the RSV was easily replaced, I might do it, but, I believe it would take a lot more work than I'm willing (able?) to put in to make it work. I'm sure others on here can tell you more about that than I can.

Ignition switch problems
awsmsrv replied to Mariner Fan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes. I had mine replaced twice. The 1st time Yamaha had no problem warrantying the repair & rekeyed it, as well. 2nd time Yamaha replaced it, but, would NOT rekey it without charging me. Said I must be doing something wrong, i.e., too much weight from many keys on my keyring. I only use the bike key & no keyring. Was I ticked? Yep. Ended up keying one side of my key for the ignition & the other side for everything else. Still only 1 key, but, had to mark the key & look at the mark to know which direction to insert it. -
Uhhh, would that be Eck's ex?
-
Me, too. 89.8333… to be exact. How could you go that long at that speed & not get ticketed? And that's not even counting stopping for gas, food or relief.
