    2016 Versys 1000 LT
  1. My inseam is 31" & it's not a problem at all. It's a more direct path to the ground. Besides, you don't need to flat foot it, just put your left foot down. At 300# lighter, it won't fall over. So far, have never been close to dropping it.
  2. Nope. Got my 2016 Versys 1000 last April. More nimble, sporty looking, fuel injected, upright riding position, ABS, ride modes, traction control, better mpg & 300# lighter. Works for me.
  3. It's actually a very upright sitting position. It's like sitting in a chair with your legs wrapped around the front legs of chair. You hardly lean forward. It's not even close to a sport bike position.
  4. Go back 3 posts & there's 1 picture. Here's another.
  5. Sorry, not here much anymore. Here's a pic.
  6. Replaced the 2006 Venture with a 2016 Kawasaki Versys 1000 LT today. Well, since it's past midnight, actually yesterday. The Venture was a great bike, but it was time for something new after 10 yrs. The Versys is so different; turns in so easily, wants to fly past 4K rpms, but I must keep it there for 500 miles. Then 6K for the next 500 miles. Then I can open it up. Missing upshifts now & then because of the different feel, but the clutch (slipper assist) is really light. Not as much luggage space, but that may be a good thing. Love the color: Candy Lime Green & Metallic Spark Black. Right now I have no trunk because I didn't want the Kawasaki-branded Givi because it can only carry 11# while the actual Givi doubles that. I'll do the obligatory picture later. The Versys is actually wider than the Venture. If I remember correctly, Venture 3'0" wide, but Versys 3'4" wide. The seat is about 3" taller, but a lot narrower (& not as comfy as that pillow seat) so I can still flat foot it. Gotta get used to pegs too, instead of floorboards. Fuel injected, 110 hp, 1043cc in-line 4, only 549#. Saddlebags (weirdly shaped, but fit the look of the bike) remove in seconds. As I ride it more, I'll update you all on how it's coming along (accessories, etc).
  7. Thanks for the idea of the super glue, David. What percent tint did you end up using?
  8. What is lens tape? I was thinking of cutting a piece of a neutral density filter, such as is used on camera lenses. I'm just not sure how to attach it. Glue? I went to a window tinting place for a scrap as well, but the guy said it wouldn't stick to plastic. Is he wrong? Still not sure what to do. Thanks to all who've tried to help, so far.
  9. I bought a digital voltmeter off Amazon that is extremely bright. Is there a way to dim the display with a diode & still get the proper voltage reading?
  10. Yep. I have a 2003 Dakota Quad Cab & had it fixed the 1st time under warranty, then again a year later, needs it again, but not going to do anything about it. Common problem. Hardly ever drive it. I take the bike everywhere I go. I've only put 250 miles on the truck this year.
  11. Yep, I've been looking at the Kawasaki Versys 1000 LT myself. Been checking it out & like what I see. However, not thrilled with chain instead of shaft drive. 300 lbs lighter, though. I'm thinking that will become more & more desirable the more I get past 60. I've read lots of good things about it. Going to look at it again at the Bike Show in Long Beach in a couple more weeks. Enjoy your search.
  12. It's kind of a toss up. A few years ago my wife & I stayed at a cheap motel in Fullerton, CA (where I grew up) that had ants everywhere in the room, including the bed. Wife was not happy & if wife ain't happy, life ain't happy. The other one was when my wife & I were on our way from CA to WA. We stopped at the top of Mt Shasta for the night. They had 1 room left with no heat. We thought it would be OK for just the 1 night. WRONG! We froze. Mt Shasta is pretty high & it gets brutally cold at night. On top of that, it snowed a couple of feet that night & we had to wait in the morning for the snow plow to clear the parking lot so we could leave. I won't go into what else happened after that, however, we were able to look back on it & laugh. It's all just life. No sense in getting too upset. If it weren't for the rain, there'd be no flowers.
  13. How about the Versys 1000 LT? 549#. I'm seriously considering it for my next bike.
  14. Yep, here's what happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Coming up on a busy intersection, I filtered to the front & waited for the green light. A guy in an Infiniti G35 on my left inches forward like he wants to race. He's maybe 4" from my left grip & stomps on it as soon as the light turns green. This really frosted me because he was so close & I thought it was a risky maneuver. At that point my right wrist wouldn't let it go (stupid wrist). I fly around him & end up doing 90 before I let it coast back to 55 (speed limit). I see a car coming up on me thinking it's the G35, but Noooooo... it's a LEO. Lights got real pretty & all I could think of was, "My wife is gonna be livid." The cop asked me if I were in a hurry. I just said, "No. I just did a really stupid thing." I explained why I did the stupid thing. He asked, "Didn't you see me at the intersection?" I said, "Uh, I guess not." He then explained how he could impound my bike & imprison me & said he had to be off to some other problem, so, "I'm going to let you go, but slow it down." Thank you, thank you, thank you. He certainly wasn't friendly (understandable), but I was certainly appreciative. Same here, Randy.
  15. You're right. I'm thinking in the next 2-3 weeks. Those spy pics did nothing for me. Not interested if Yammy's going to a twin. I've had my RSV for over 9 years now & just started looking for something else. Maybe Kawasaki Versys 1000 LT. Haven't ridden one yet, but sat on it at the dealer. Completely different riding posture. It's got an inline 4, 1043cc, 33" seat height, over 300# lighter. Supposedly, the motor is pretty good. I'm interested.
