What is this part in my oil pan?
Pam replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
What I have done I the past with snow mobiles, to prevent the crank from turning is to take out a plug, and feed as much rope into the cylender as I can. Once the cylender is full of rope the crank can be turned until the piston tops out on the head. Crank won't turn and doesn't do damage. framk -
I cyfered through it all before looking at the pic's. If it was anti freeze leaking on way or the other they should find something in the oil sump. I am leaning towards a bad rod. If the bearings were bad (they say they were OK) there should be evidence of heat. Just my 4 cents (inflation) frank:080402gudl_prv:

We have them here in Canada, and in the wild they fend for themselves and clean up a lot of the smaller garbage fish. If you have a stocked trout pond they will all line up like Olimpic Swimers at one end. Then they all dive in and chase the fish until every one has a meal. They jump back out and preen them selves and wait until it is time to line up again. This goes on until they have cleaned every thing out of your pond. Once this starts the only way to end it is with one of those boom sticks. frank

Sorry to hear about your Folks Dave, and all my best wishes for you and them. I have been reading this with great interest, Usually a hole in the block is caused by a broken crank or rod. Yamaha seems to have taken the stance that this can't happen to one of these engins, especially if the engine is maintained as this one has. Anything can happen in an engine, and I am betting that when everthing is all torn down there will be an old fracture in the crank or a rod, or possibly one of the wrist pins. Again all my best o you and your folks Dave frank:080402gudl_prv:

As I understand it your generator is going to be just big enough to run the fans. as there is no pilot lite there is a spark/ignition sensor. So you are hearing the small fan come on which starts the draft up the chiminy, Once the system senses the draft it starts the ignition, and you hear the gas valve open. The kicker is the flame sensor (located in the burners usually white porcelin with a single wire) If it does not sense the flame the furnace shuts down Find the flame sensor and pull it out and use some steel wool on it and clean it up and it should fire up. Happens to my furnace a couple of times a winter. I am noe expert but that is my take on it and a furnace is a major house hold appliance around my end of the world frank

I forgot to mention in my other post. I had a similar issure with my 83 VR. it was a cracked carb diaphram. The bike would labour along and pop and all of a sudden come alive for a while. Changed the diaphrams and a carb sync and away we go. But that was on an 83 yours is considerably newer. frank

It's December 28 today and the old sun got up at 8.43 and crawls off to bed at 4.40 according to the weather guy, but he is wrong most of the time. frank

I am no expert but I would think that if the carb is not seated properly and the cylender is sucking air it will be causing a lean condition, That should show on the plug. just like a car engine. As for the jets I have no clue on that frank

I about 6 weeks ago I picked up an 2006 Wings at a dealer for $13000.00 with 143000 km. I have an 83 VR for sale.(hate to part with it) No comparison between the bikes won't get the wife back on the VR again. Rode home last night after work 9 drgrees c. Love those heated seats. As for milage I have not figured it out but I am thinking around 45 mpg. Pam

Left fork tube leak at dust cover.
Pam replied to Tony1M's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have always used a 1/2 inch air impact (electric would also work) and a toreqe bit. (Looks like an allan key but has a 3/8 or 1/2 inch drive so you can use a ratchet or in this case an impact) this eliminates the problem of the fork tube turning. Once that bottom bolt is out your off to the races. You might have to bump it down a couple of times to break it loose Frank -

I have changed my fork seals on my 83 VR a couple of times. I got tired of buying seals at a Yamaha store (100 miles away) so I took an old seal to my Napa guy and he ordered seals for me at about $8.00 each. (Can't recall the number but it is a metric seal) I have never loosened the pinch bolts. I always remove the springs and after the front tire is off I use an impact and a hex socket and take the bottom retainng bolt out and slide the bottom 1/2 of the fork off. This probobly isn't the right way but it is considerably quicker.Frank -
I have an 83 VR. I have the same problem, The relay is behind the winshield/inst cluster. Black in color, I took the relay out and had it tested. It failed so I need another relay. Hope this helpsFrank

I have an 83 VR. even with a fuel line off I would only get a couple of clickes when I turned the key. If I by pass everthing and go direct the pump runs great. I tracked the fuel pump relay down and it failed the test as per the shop manual. A buddy has one in the mail for me. Hopefully that will fix my problem. frank

How is the fuel pump, and what would you want for it??frank

Last fall I was cruising and the bike just died, from easy riding at 60 mph to 0. It just died. I got it to restart but it wants to run with the choke 1/2 on. Had to haul it home and after some tinkering got it to run. Then it died again. same deal as before will run with the choke 1/2 on. As spring approaches I have tried to get it going but no change runs with the choke 1/2 on. Just like it is out of gas. I have cracked a fuel line at one of the carbs and there seems to be lots of fuel, and I can hear the pump click. Any one know how much fuel preasure the fuel pump should put out. Or have any idea's.thanks frank
