    rejuvination

I'd probably try Meguiars Plastic cleaner on it. http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/imagesEdp/p84826b.jpg
  2. So whats your goal? to reliably haul around the sidecar at legal speeds and enjoy the ride and scenary? Or to be the first one to the next gas station? Half the sidecars I see (well maybe used to see is more accurate) on the road are attached to BMW airheads. That tells me that the first scenario is likely covered by an R1200 irrespective of the touted engine specs.
  3. Looks good. see you at Maintenance day
  4. Many of us here use a frame/lift adapter made by member Carbon1 with a Sears jack. The Carbon1 lift adapter locks into the holes in the frame where the center stand would be on bikes without one. The Carbon1 adapter can optionally be ordered with legs such that you can then afix the legs after raising the bike, and then set it down on sturdy legs and remove the jack. Thats what I do. There are numerous threads here about this. some people use a couple pieces of 2x4 on the jack to keep it away from the pipes.
  5. would need a new rear tire on my RSV first and an oil change.
  6. Thats a true friend...
  7. Did you say you were going to be at Cody this summer?
  8. yes. but if you have the covers off and are to the point where you're measuring the clearances, you might as well be prepared to finish the job, if needed. btw, the 2nd gen valve cover gaskets fits a 1st gen, and are better gaskets.
  9. I have a kit with the valve shim tool when you get to that part. PM me when you know you'll need it. Sometimes there's a queue for the kit.
  10. Good news Randy. Please keep us posted

  12. I don't think that statement is necessarily true. I have a 30 inch inseam and am finding it increasingly difficult to find a bike that appeals to me with a seat height under 31 inches. many are 33 inches. That said, the seating position on a 2nd gen Venture / RSTD along with the footboards seems to make a very comfortable riding position for riders of various leg lengths. Padding can be added to the seats (ala sofa seat or Rick Butler) to give additional height if needed.

    Sturgis 2011

I plan on passing thru Sturgis on about the 5th, after leaving the VR rally in Cody.
  15. double dip cone please. one of each flavor....
  16. I have 2 of the Walmart Ozark Trail tents. A large 4/6 man and a smaller 2 man. The 2 man was about $40 and the 4 man was about $60 (watch for sales). They are warm weather tents lightly constructed and with large screen tops covered with rain flys. They have worked ok in moderate rains and light winds. Very easy to put up or take down, even for 1 person. I used the 2man on a couple trips with my RSTD with it tied to the back seat. I've also purchased an Ozark Trails air mattress, these are much thicker and more comfortable than the old style air mattresses, but you'll need to get an electric pump to blow it up unless you're a tuba player. I have a pump that runs off 4 D cell batteries, or you can get one that plugs into your bikes accessory socket. If you're planning on cold weather camping, I'd get a more heavy duty tent.
  17. now I know why the Canadians look so happy when May gets here.
  18. I thought the punch line was going to be "they were collecting night crawlers".

  21. a prayer sent.
  22. using sintered pads up front and standard brake pads in the rear may help those who want more grab in the front. I haven't tried this, but it seems like an idea to try in that situation.
  23. more prayers being sent your way.
  24. Its a long wheelbase. You're not going to change that. The tires do make a difference. When I went from the stock Bridgestones to Avon Venoms with a narrower front tire, the handling improved noticeably on my RSTD. My RSTD is easier to handle than my Venture, so taking off a little top weight, and the narrow front tire seem to help in that regard. But neither of these bikes are going to be as nimble as my 500lb Triumph.
