    Museums

Here in Dahlonega, GA is the Gold Museum. Dahlonega was the site of the first US gold rush in 1829 and there was a US mint here that exclusively minted gold US coins from 1838 until 1861. The origonal D mint mark was Dahlonega. There's a complete set of Dahlonega minted gold coins on display (one of 3 known on public display), exhibits of mining, the mint, and local history. We're about 25 miles south of Vogel if you're coming to the Tail of the Dragon VR rally in August. The museum is run by the GA State Parks. http://www.gastateparks.org/info/dahlonega/ Oh yes. We're 2 hours south of the Wheels thru Time motorcycle museum of theprevious post.
  2. The first thing to do is run a couple tanks of gas thru it with a can of seafoam in each tank. Then sync the carbs. The sea foam will clean out many carbs, the back fire may just be carbs needing tuning. Many members here have their own sync tool. They cost under $100, are easy to use, and it takes about 30 minutes. find a member nearby with the tool to show you how to do it. He'll probably work for icecream.
  3. welcome back
  4. Tornado warning about 10:30 last night. My two dogs went bananas when the siren went off. I decided to head for a workshop with its own walls down in the basement. Trying to convince the dogs to go to the basement was interesting. Lost power shortly thereafter and I just stayed down there for about 45 minutes with a battery LED light. The storm front passed quickly and left no local damage that I could perceive, in fact the hail didn't happen either as far as I could tell. So, despite the severity of the forecast, it wasn't as bad of a storm, or have the duration of the one a week ago. The power came back on sometime in the middle of the night. edit... I just saw the news. I guess I was just lucky. Several people were killed nearby and quite a bit of destruction in Georgia from the storm.
  5. again. just had the same last week. This one looks even uglier than last week. The big radar map shows it stretching from New Orleans to Pittsburg. I raced the front edge of it home an hour ago and got hit with a few drops of rain and some wind gusts. Looks like all H is going to break out from the weather map. probably thats whats happening from Huntsville to Nashville right now. Got the bikes under the carport and a blanket thrown over the car.
  6. custom seats, as they look pleated. Custom front brake rotor cover. Looks like some extra chrome engine bits, but can't tell for sure from the profile pictures. The luggage rack is an add-on and the backrest may not be standard. good looking bike.
  7. retirement isn't all its cracked up to be. for example, this afternoon I have to decide on whether or not to finish planting my garden, or take a motorcycle ride. Oh the stress I have to go thru.
  8. glad you found the source of the problems and are on your way to being ready for riding season.
  9. wise move. See Y'all in a few months.
  10. I guess somebody will just have to buy one and bring it to Cody. Jack, you're going to CODY aren't you?
  11. I'll try to make it one day. lets talk more as the time draws near.
  12. Thats very good news I know. Thats certainly a good looking seat you had made.
  13. There hasn't been a non-S since 2009 (USA). On the USA Star web pages if you click Royal Star Venture you get the 2009 model. I like the 2011 two tone blue, which was offered as the non-S color scheme in Canada for 2010. That said, I'm quite happy with the 2000 Millenium I bought with only 16,000 miles on it last year. So I'm just trying to entice someone to buy a 2011 so I can look at it at Freebird's MD.
  14. I think the S is the only model for 2011. More chrome .... I just searched for 2011 Venture. The lowest price hit was in Ohio.
  15. Another line of thinking is that lugging the engine at too low rpms will result in lower power and hence lower gas mileage. Drop it down a gear and see if your mileage goes up.
  16. I don't have a solution for you, but I'd like to have your problem... The only way I can get 42mpg is to run 60-65 mph, any faster and the mpg drops off fast. The carbs jets may somehow be 'unusual' yielding poorer mileage at lowspeed? Any chance you have non-stock cams or ignition ? The other thought I have is that maybe the bike is running on 3 cylinders until you get up to speed. ie: an ignition/wiring/coil problem ?
  17. Did you put in a nickel before you turned the crank?
  18. Its on the list of the most reliable cars in its class.
  19. There's about 6 of them at dealers on Cycletrader.com ranging in price from $17,6xx and upwards to $22,000 I read a post about a member taking one for a ride, but I got the impression he worked for that dealer.

    Go dawgs!

isn't the ididarod over for this year?
  22. So, has anyone bought one yet?
  23. if he does that the pond monster is liable to move in the house with him...
  24. I have a Baron's tach mounted on my handlebar. see attached. If I had it to do over again, I would get a mount that allowed the tach to pivot on the mount, but its ok as it is. My 08 RSTD came with Bridgestone tires and the rear lasted until 9,100 miles and the front until 11,600. I replaced them with Avon Venoms. I put a slightly narrower (130 width instead of stock 150) on the front. It handles MUCH better. Ditto on leaving it stock. Just run it up in revs in 2nd and 3rd gear when you want to pass that long truck.
  25. Looks real good Harry. You may be asked to provide contact info so some others can have a set made. The final test will be what does your butt feel like after an 800 mile day in the saddle?
