Help-valve shim tool
RandyR replied to dug050's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Sleeperhawk wants to check his valve clearances, so I'll ride over for a day to test flyinfool's tool soon. -

Vibration question
RandyR replied to Teflon's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
welcome. How many miles on the bike? The tires might be a contributing factor. What tires do you have (likely Bridgestones) and how many miles on them? and are they inflated per sidewall spec? The Bridgestones are noisy. And if the tires have become cupped, then you can have vibration from that. -
Thanks to you and Eileen for hosting this event. I think its the perfect mix of work and play, but then again I'm not wrenching it all day like those mentioned. Thanks to V7Goose and Monty for helping me get some needed tasks accomplished. It was great seeing the Squid again. Oh yes, and finally getting to meet Annie and Al from Australia. And Annie the VR mascot kept a watch on everything to make sure we all had a good time. And thanks to Hummingbird for the icecream.

Sounds like we'll have to come up with an award for best side dish to encourage more of this kind of thinking.... I'm not a judge and you can't bribe me (easily).

Oil filter brand
RandyR replied to Galapagos's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The ST7317 is fairly highly rated, and only costs $2.50 at Walmart. -
If you fill it too full, it will run out an overflow. Usually there is an obvious wet spot under the bike. I don't fill mine (with hole in filler neck) all the way to the top unless I'm going to get on it and ride.

I'll probably ride my RSTD to maintence day. It hasn't had a long run since I bought the Millenium RSV last spring. Plus the rear tire on the Millenium only has a few short trips left in it (although I've been thinking that for a couple months already) and probably wouldn't make it to Ohio. I'm going to try to ride all the way on Thursday and get camp set up before dark. I want to watch V7Goose's steering bearing clinic on Friday, and I haven't had the fairing off my RSV yet, so can see/help do that. The weather report looks good for Friday and Saturday.
