    Thanks

The following is a proclamation from Abraham Lincoln on Thanksgiving Day, October 20, 1864. It has pleased Almighty God to prolong our national life another year, defending us with His guardian care against unfriendly designs from abroad and vouchsafing to us in His mercy many and signal victories over the enemy, who is of our own household. It has also pleased our Heavenly Father to favor as well our citizens in their homes as our soldiers in their camps and our sailors on the rivers and seas with unusual health. He has largely augmented our free population by emancipation and by immigration, while He has opened to us new sources of wealth and has crowned the labor of our workingmen in every department of industry with abundant rewards. Moreover, He has been pleased to animate and inspire our minds and hearts with fortitude, courage, and resolution sufficient for the great trial of civil war into which we have been brought by our adherence as a nation to the cause of freedom and humanity, and to afford to us reasonable hopes of an ultimate and happy deliverance from all our dangers and afflictions: Now, therefore, I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do hereby appoint and set apart the last Thursday in November next as a day which I desire to be observed by all my fellow-citizens, wherever they may then be, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, the beneficent Creator and Ruler of the Universe. And I do further recommend to my fellow-citizens aforesaid that on that occasion they do reverently humble themselves in the dust and from thence offer up penitent and fervent prayers and supplications to the Great Disposer of Events for a return of the inestimable blessings of peace, union, and harmony throughout the land which it has pleased Him to assign as a dwelling place for ourselves and for our posterity throughout all generations. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. Done at the city of Washington, this 20th day of October, A.D. 1864, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty-ninth.
  3. I'm thinking that the bunk beds in the right-rear next to the bathroom is wasted space. I'm sure a customizer could remove that, put an outside opening storage area there with a lift-gate and cycle tie-down.
  4. That makes me think something is wrong with the system if that's the case. If the 2 sides one HAS to chose between aren't really helping improve life and society for the majority of the people, then we are being bamboozled.
  5. Once upon a time I would agree with you. But the last few years the parties have drawn a hard line over most issues. The parties require party members to adhere to voting as a block. Those that don't support the policies espoused by their leadership find life difficult. Party politicians are required to put party first rather than their constituents. On another note, the sun is out and I'm going for a short ride, even though its a bit chilly. Thats why I own a snowmobile suit here in Georgia ---
  6. Thats about the odds that anyone you vote for national office will do anything resembling governing the USA in a responsible manner. IMHO

  8. I've come close to buying a Guzzi a few times, but always seem to find something I like better or at a better price. That 850cc is in my sweet spot, but its a bit tall in the saddle for me and I bought a new bike already here in 2018.

  14. While its too late to be of help to you, there are a few kits containing the tools and an assortment of shims available to forum members who want to do this work themselves. If someone is looking for a kit, just ask.
  15. I think the issue with the Metzler's chunking on a RSV seemed to mostly happen to those riding very heavily load, 2-up, and maybe add a trailer. When I bought my ex-RSV Millenium, it had new Metzler's on it, and I put 12,000+ trouble free miles on them. But I ride solo, and only pulled a small trailer a couple of times. That said, when it came time to replace the Metzlers I went with new Avons as I prepared for the Venture Rider annual at Cody, Wy, and wanted new tires. And of course, the 2nd day after having the new tire mounted, had a bad puncture going over railroad tracks and had to replace the tire with about 1,000 miles on it.

  18. I was in Destin for a company holiday a few years ago. Myself and several others chartered a fishing boat for 4 hours in the morning at a harbor about a mile from our hotel. We had a decent catch and were given a styrofoam cooler to put the filets in, and started the trek back up the beach. As we passed a restaurant on a pier we decided to stop and have a beer and relax. We talked a bit to the restaurant owner, told him what we'd been up to, and he offered to cook the fish we had just caught for us and add some fries and slaw and hush puppies. So, we decided that was a good idea. It was a memorable fresh fish dinner, and a good time was had by all.

  24. W0JWD here. That was my Dad's old call sign which I got (was issued KK4ONJ). My Dad and two uncles were ham's. General class, but slowly working on my Extra. I'm secretary of the local radio club, North Georgia Amateur Radio Club. I'm semi active on vhf/uhf and help run a weekly 2meter net. I get on 40meters once in a while.
  25. Too much nostalgia can result in a trip to the Dr. That said, there was something lost when motorcycles quit being made with kick starters
