despite what I've said previously about being an acoustic guitar player, I bought a new Larrivee electric today. Spent a couple hours playing some different guitars at a nearby music store and left with the new Larrivee RS-2 Ventura with humbucker pickups and a Fender G-DEC3 Thirty amp. In Maryland head west to Frostburg and Deep Creek Lake. From Virginia head west out US 50 to Front Royal. -
I probably ride my RSTD 30% of the time without the windshield. Have never taken off the passenger backrest though. I agree, it does give it a different feel.

I've got a 5-10 mile stretch of gravel road nearby I use to scuff my new tires in. Seems to work well. I've decided not to fool with car tires. I have a new BFG car tire that will fit the 2nd gens if anyone near north Georgia wants it for free.

With 2 up I'd probably not shift to 4th until 50 or more. On the ride back from the Dragon 2 weeks ago I noticed the whine was much worse when going down hill and not applying much throttle. First time I'd noticed that. But wasn't too bad on the flats or up-hill with rpm's kept up. -
Yep, the remains of hurricane Lee are following the Appalachian ridge north. We needed the rain here in GA, but wish you could have better weather for your ride.
