89 Venture - Mileage life span
RandyR replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Bill, Looks like a good find. enjoy the ride. -
I read SkyDoc to say that the 3rd version 2nd gen stator started after 2005, ie,in 2006. Maybe Earl could clarify, although checking the printsets on BikeBandit for different eco's would likely tell the story.
-
I hadn't seen this before. Another item for the the list of differences on the RSV's and since 2005 was the first 'new' RSTD, I presume it also.
-
I find it difficult to conceive of a 6.5hp motor only holding 7oz of oil. Then again, my Suzuki DR200se only takes 1 quart of engine oil.
-
The video also didn't show how to break off the heads of the screws.
-
You should paint a small HD logo on the side of your Venture for evey HD he's owned... Fighter pilot syle....

OK. Thats one lump coal for YammerDan.

Glad it went well,Robin. Go home soon. Take it easy this Christmas, let Santas elves do all the work.
-
Thats what I remembered. Might as well go thru, but sometimes traffic and inspections add to the time, since this is a timed race (of sorts). I see the group ride link shows 270 miles between fuel stops. That likely means an aux fuel tank for most bikes. Looks to me like the shortest route from border to border is El Paso, TX to East Poplar, Sask. 1380 miles, 23hrs 6min drive time
-
I was under the opinion that it was possible to cross the border and turn around without going thru customs of Canada or Mexico. Is this not the case anymore?

89 Venture - Mileage life span

Its just broken in. Well, maybe a few miles beyond that. The engines and drivetrain are good for 200,000 miles if treated well. Probably more. welcome to the forum -

just rock the bike side to side a little to slop the gas over to the left side. You can get some fuel that way if the ride has otherwise been very smooth. Or hit the brakes a few time to slosh the gas around. I'm happy with the Butler mod to my stock standard RSV seat. did a couple 700 mile days this year with it.

I ordered a new copy of Ride Like a Pro (5) to replace the DVD I misplaced. I should have it back in circulation in a few days. If I find the copy that was sent to me, then I'll get it in circulation too.

Guess I didn't have anything else to do after waking up at 4:30am, so just ordered one of the PIAA 70476 H4 SUPER PLASMA GT-X ANTI VIBRATION bulbs also. It appears to give off 25% more light for the same wattage as the PIAA 70456. My biggest concern is that the write-up on this bulb states that it gives off light which reflects better. Normally one would want that. The downside might be that it is impossible rather than just difficult to see in one of the frequent light fogs we get here in the Georgia mountains. I've been thinking about putting yellow bulbs in my passing lights to help in the fog, so that may be a good combination.

I think that 9004's are 60/45 watts, whereas our headlights use 60/55 watt H4's. and different bases. A couple of members posts in this thread have said that bulbs dimm over time. And I thought it was just my eyes going bad... 9004 1st, H4 2nd

New guy on the block
RandyR replied to DarkLeftArm's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't recall anyone talking about a lift adapter for the Venture. While its possible to raise the RSV with wooden blocks (or hockey pucks) on a MC jack/lift, many of us here use the Carbon One lift adapter. It locks to the under frame of the RSV and makes working on the bike much safer. Getting the adapter with feet allows one to sit the bike down on it after being lifted up. Makes many maintenance tasks easier and safer. forsale in the member vendor section of the forum.
