  1. prayers sent for the family.
  2. Thanks. I hadn't seen these V pads before. I just ordered a set of EBC FA organic pads but will keep an eye on this thread to see how people like these new pads.
  3. The watts drawn is what is of concern to your bikes electrical system. Or amps (this amp means amperage current flow, not amplifier). watts = amps times volts (always 12volts). so either watts or amps going up means more load on your electrical system. Now to confuse things, many bulb manufacturers state that THEIR 60 watt bulb is equivalent to a regular (what ever type) 90 watt bulb's brightness. Thats not the same thing as saying it actually draws 90 watts from the electrical system. Lumens is the correct measure of light but the marketing guys have to earn their pay by being creative. More lumens aka light is OK though. make sense? also, its not a good idea to exceed the watts or amps drawn of the OEM bulb. because to do so means that more heat will be generated and you're likely to exceed the ability of the socket and reflector (if there is one) to handle the extra heat.
  4. Shoei customer service did answer this question via email There is a difference between the two shields, a C-10 will not fit a helmet that needs a C-10A shield, and vis versa. Please note that all helmets that use these shields have been discontinued for many years, and we suggest they be replaced, as they are past their service life. Technical Advisor Shoei Safety Helmet Corp. www.Shoei-Helmets.com
  5. I have a Shoei RF-200 helmet with a slightly scratched C-10 clear shield. I'd like to get a new shield, but Shoei and Shoei dealers no longer carry replacements for helmets over 5 years old. In fact Shoei removes all FAQ's for helmets over 5 years old from their web site. I can find NOS tinted C-10 shields but the clear ones I can find (currently) are C-10A and the mounting tab seems to be slightly different. Does anyone know if the C-10A shields will fit where a C-10 is in use?
  6. I'm the one with the cabin. The cabin I reserved is a large single room, not divided into bedrooms. Thats why it was fairly cheap. Its probably best to think of it as a large man-cave for the week. I think someone else with wife has already approached me and I replied the same way. So there are people out there looking to share a cabin or motel suite. Just post a thread asking.
  7. must have been squeeking
  8. heh heh. gives new meaning to the term wheeler and dealer....
  9. The tread pattern for the front Am41 includes a center groove, whereas the rear AM42 does not. I'd use the tire designed for the front.
  10. Thanks for the reminder. I need to replace the cupped ME880 on the front of my Millenium RSV. I have an almost new Dunlop Elite III on the rear. Dennis Kirk has the Elite III 150/80H-16 front for $123.99 + 5 = $128.99 shipped. on order..... I almost ordered a set of Avons to stash away, the price is so good for the rear tire, and thats what I use on my RSTD, but I won't need new tires there until next year or maybe the following.
  11. The Sudco list is about 10 years outof date. btw. one can buy Triumph 25mm shims in 0.025mm thickness increments which may allow you to fine tune your clearance better than the Sudco 0.05mm increment shims.
  12. After installing a replacement shim rotate the engine at least 3 times before re-measuring. I expect that shims are more stable than the old set screw method.
  13. I think about failing eyesight.
  14. sorry about that. I thought I remembered you writing that one should check shims with a micrometer. Maybe it was someone else? I have measured about 100 shims with a dial micrometer. At least 10 percent were off by .01mm and a few by .02mm. This is probably nitpicking on my part.
  15. No. You're not allowed to shoot the mailman if he's delivering your monthly check.
  16. yuck
  17. Carl, glad it went well. May she recover from the operation quickly.
  18. I have plenty of shims except those under 2.70mm where I have just enough to proceed with a shim job (statistically speaking). So if you borrow my kit you'd need to replace any in that size range that got used up. Otherwise swapping around 1 for 1 is ok. You should be able get the shims for about $7 new or $3-4 used. Member MiCarl has them forsale and offers a VR member discount. Watch ebay for people selling sets from parts bikes. Thats how I built up an kit. These are 25mm shims (almost exactly 1 inch) and used on a LOT of older bikes, and still a few new ones. Also used on a Toyota auto engine of the 1970-1990 vintage which was the biggest selling engine of all times. However the Toyota shims tend to the thick range. btw the heads on the Toyota were designed by Yamaha. One should mic all old and new shims if possible. I think one needs to use a good dial micrometer that is accurate to .005mm or better. I would not use a slide caliper for this. The reason I state this is that I've found some shims are off by .01 or .02mm one way or the other from the size marked on them. So if the old shim was off .02 one way, and the new shim is off .02 the other way, you could be .04mm off in your expected clearance when done. Also, be carefull when using your feeler gauges that you don't have 2 of them stick together. A couple of times I've gotten strange results that needed correction when I rechecked clearances. I don't know what else to attribute this to other than a measuring problem with the feeler gauges. always check clearances a 2nd time before finishing with the job. Buy your gaskets from skydoc and he'll loan you a kit.
  19. Just tell her it works better than Viagra....
  20. It appears to be open season on motorcycles everywhere.
  21. It will. see the thread by Dingy about the customizations he's done to his 1st gen.
  22. If you haven't already, send a letter to your US Senators and Congressman with this information. Ask for a reply. They should all have an aid assigned to veterans issues. And thank your daughter from me for her service to the people of the USA.
  23. hmm. I wouldn't be sticking my fingers anywhere near a Northern's teeth like that.
