I'd hang in here a while. some people have converted to the larger carbs and are likely to have a set of the origonals looking for a new home.- 6 replies

I'd run a couple tanks of gas heavily treated with Seafoam or maybe Techron concentrate or BG44, before tearing into the carbs. let it set a few hours in the carbs and ride it again.

You shouldn't need to worry about valve adjustment until 26,000 miles. If you just want to do it because you'll be going thru everything, then contact me when you get close to the time and I'll send you a shim kit with tool, or buy a new set of gaskets from sky_doc and he'll loan you his kit. if the bike will be off the road while you work on it, get a good set of metric feeler gauges that can measure in 0.01mm increments from 0.10mm up to 0.30mm, pull the valve covers, and measure the clearances per threads in tech section or in the maintenance manual. If the clearances are within spec, you don't need to worry about having a tool or spare shims and can put it back together for another 26,000 miles.- 2 replies

Use one of the special zero-loss small hand pumps for the suspension instead of the same pump used for the tires.

While I do shoot a 9mm semi-auto pistol, I like to shoot a .38 revolver because its more economical. 9mm almost requires copper jacketed bullets where-as lead cast bullets are fine for most .38 target shooting. economy = more practice time at the range

I have a Ruger Redhawk in .41mag. I almost posted about the matching caliber Marlin lever rifle in .41mag, but its not current production and I don't think many were made when it was in production. for those just thinking along these lines, the pistols in large rifle calibers that Flyinfool was refering to are probably Thompson Center Contender single shot pistols. They are good for hunting and specialized silhouette shooting at long range. One of the TC single shots is an excellant training/plinking target pistol in .22rimfire at a shooting range.

Ruger makes the M77/357 and M77/44 bolt action rifles that shoots .357magnum cartridges or .44mag And the economy choice at under $300 new would be a singleshot H&R Handi Rifle

The Marlin lever action rifle in .44mag is a decent short range deer rifle. However the same cartridge in a handgun packs a real whallop and I find it uncomfortable to shoot. A Marlin 1894c in .38/.357 is a marginal hunting rifle but in a handgun is much more comfortable and economical to shoot. One should shoot it enough to be comfortable with whatever you choose. .38/.357 shoots either .357 magnums or .38 specials. http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/Cowboy/1894_45Colt.asp Here's a link to a discussion of the .38/.357 loads. http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-558787.html Rossi (Brazil, and very high quality) also makes a line of lever action rifles (and pistols) that share the same caliber. http://www.rossiusa.com/product-list.cfm?category=8 And, there's the Winchester M1892. very nice, but have become very pricey. http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?family=022C&mid=534177

buy the 2000 rsv and then use the money you saved to buy an RSTD backup bike.

If you're coming from the north, then Marysville TN has a lot of rooms. Depending on how your schedule I may be able to meet you at Deals Gap. btw. The lunch crowd at Deals Gap can be big and very slow on weekends. Its a show unto itself, but don't plan on a quick bite to eat there.

Rick What are your thoughts on using a less aggressive pad material like semi-sintered or ceramic (kevlar) instead of the more aggressive HH sintered that so many people like?
