  1. I would change once per year minimum beause of acids that may build up in the oil, irrespective of any breakdown in lubricity. I don't have any scientific evidence or study to reinforce that thought.
  2. Randy's 1st Law. You never see a new road if you always know where you're going.
  3. I'm going to report you tothe SPAM Defamation League.
  4. yes My rules of thumb are. 1. at least once a year for any oil 2. 4,000 miles for conventional oil 3. 6,000 miles for full synthetic oil 4. always change the filter
  5. There have usually been 2 models of RSV and RSTD each year. A 'regular' and an 'S' model. The S model has had some additional chrome and will be more expensive. I believe the black Midnights have always been that year's S model. Sometimes with chrome studs around the seats.

  9. yep and if you go to google and search for 'widget' 2/3 of the search results will be wierd sounding links where the 3 line google summary reads as if the link has something to say about widgets, but when you get there its just a redirection page to ebay.

  14. If I was a 400 lb football lineman, that would be the bike for me. Actually it was rather easier to handle than I thought it would be, although the test ride was in a pack that didn't get over 60mph or push things very much. The ride was comfortable. Was able to turn it around in a smallish cul-de-sac easily. low seat height helps to balance the weight when at a stop.
  15. I took a demo ride on one, and had the same thought.
  16. there are a couple recent threads on this very topic. Many suggest the simple solution which is to just double up with a second stock clutch spring. Earl aka skydoc_17 sells a clutch rebuild kit in the member vendor section.
  17. It should be ok if well maintained, but thats a big if. I'd want to carefully inspect everything.
  18. In Georgia any vehicle over 25 years old doesn't require a title.
  19. The forum advertiser MotorcycleGear.com (ex newEnough) seemed to have the best prices I could find and a large selection. Although I bought a new HJC one-piece full face helmet not a modular.

  23. I was expecting to see pie plates in the pictures. Looks like a lot of metal left. So what does "they're right there' mean when you put a micrometer on them and add a fudge factor for maybe having them turned in a machine shop? Has any one had these plates turned? I don't ever recall seeing a thread about that.
  24. The alert siren went off at 11pm for about 30 minutes. I went down to the basement. But there doesn't appear to be any damage outside, not even the 'half-way normal' fallen pine tree. The storm did stall right over my head for about 8 hours before it moved out. So it had plenty of opportunity. Just checked the Atlanta paper website. It says an elementary school and local airport nw of Atlanta were detroyed early last nightand there was also some lightening damage reported locally. nothing about any people being hurt.
  25. I'm in a town with a weather alert siren so should have about 5 minutes or more warning. I opened up my 'safe room' downstairs and put fresh batteries in a flashlight. Also got a dog leash for my 80lb puppy who goes nuts in moments when its least needed. And have a large rum & coke to sip on while I'm waiting.
