  2. Steve. I'll be glad to help.
  3. twigg, when the wind was pushing you around, did you try running in 4th gear instead of 5th? I'm not sure about the 1st gen gear ratios, but on the 2nd gen where both 4th and 5th are overdrives, I would not be using 5th gear into a headwind or when running uphill. Your mileage is poor. But I have heard of similarly poor mileage in a strong headwind. just thinking aloud. I may try for a 1,000 mile run this year just to see how things go. I probably won't find interstates here in the southeast where I can average 70mph though.
  4. I'm wondering if there are some stretches of interstate that are better than others for the 1500 mile BBG? I would think that min of 70mph or + and few stretches thru cities with 55mph. would be best. I would think that even at 75mph one should average 35mpg so a 4 gallon aux tank that fully drains should provide 9x35= 315 miles with 1 gal safety margin. (6 gallon 2nd gen tank). avoiding construction appears to be a must.
  5. maybe he got some gas with water in it.
  6. lowering links for the rear and/or lower the front triple tree. Many threads on this. just do a search. Lowering links for the rear require the rear brake caliper to be relocated. somehave fabricated their own. Kits are forsale. Lowering the front seems to be easy based on the write-ups. Just loosen the triple tree and slide the forks up & re-tighten.
  7. see you next year. we'll keep the party going until then...
  8. two models, but then the California version of each makes 4.
  9. You have a good dealer. Most would try to blame you for breaking it.
  10. I've bought reloading supplies from FF&F at Camp Perry where they set up on Commercial Row during the National Matches. They have usually had good prices and selection. I rode by their store as I left Freebird's 2010 maintenance day and was very tempted to stop and deposit all my money. So bring that Kimber to MD to show off. The fishing gear doesn't look all that expensive now, does it?
  11. In the article was a statement that the German Horex motorcycles were being resurrected with a new V-6 supercharged 200hp motor. http://www.motorcycle.com/gallery/gallery.php/d/242132-3/061510-horex-05.jpg? http://www.motorcycle.com/news/horex-brand-resurrected-in-germany-89656.html Its a 15degree v6 engine with 3 cams. Very unusual design. http://www.motorcycle.com/gallery/gallery.php/d/242156-2/061510-horex-02.jpg

  14. shhh !!!!! don't let them hear you...
  15. do you have any optional gauges installed?
  16. I've run a ME 880 front with E3 rear for about 4,000 miles. No handling problems I can feel on my RSV.
  17. If you want a bike to restore and ride short distances or trailer to Brit bike vintage rallies, its just the thing. However, its not a reliable, long haul, comfortable riding machine. air cooled 3 cylinder. basically the last breath for 1930's technology. I love them, but they are what they are.
  18. yep. we can do that. Just ride 53 all the way to GA400 on the way home. Which is a nice ride too.
  19. glad to hear she's going to be ok. as you said, she's a tough cookie.
  20. ok. Lets meet at the Dairy Queen in Cumming, GA at 8:30am for breakfast KSU at 9:00am The Dairy Queen is on GA20 and GA9, 103 Atlanta Road. We'll ride GA20 to Canton, then take GA140 to Waleska, Adairsville, then pick up GA 53 into Rome. Hows that sound? Let me know who wants to ride together? I want to be at Fuddruckers by 11:45am. Lunch at noon. I have NOT reserved a room, since there aren't enough of us for that. So I'll just go in and throw my helmet on a big table to reserve it a few minutes early. Randy
  21. I believe that acids are primarily a by-product of combustion and moisture and metallic wear, although the breakdown of the oil and additives may also play a part. Oils have additives to neutralize the acids. But time takes its toll. I go 8,000-10,000 miles between oil changes in my car. But automotive engine oil contains better detergents and additives than one should use in a wet clutch motorcycle. The motorcycle engine oil (unlike a car) also circulates thru the transmission where there are gears in constant mesh in the lubricant which will cause oil breakdown.
  22. Bob, Good idea there's a M&E this Saturday March 17. The March on Rome is happening. And Steve Wagner has scheduled the north Georgia maintenance day for March 31st. schedule a M&E and they will come (or at least ride). I'm planning on going to both the Freebird MD and the International in NY. We can ride together and stop at all the Eagle Lodges along the route. Keep me in the loop for your ride down to St.Marys.
